Ohio congressman Tim Ryan is campaigning to replace Nancy Pelosi as the House minority leader. In an interview with the Washington Post, he argued that Democrats need a strategy for appealing to voters that doesn't rely on President Obama's personal popularity.
If we dont have Barack Obama at the top of the ticket, we cant win elections. That is an unsustainable model. He cant run again, so its not even like we can say, well, every four years well win.
Indeed, Barack Obama can't run again ... OR CAN HE???
Such is the question posed by this Change.org petition, which was ... well, it was posted by a friend of mine. It's called "President Obama: Run for Speaker of the House in 2018," and it outlines a practical and eminently constitutional path by which Obama could become the second-most-powerful elected official in America two years from now.
Here's the whole deal: The president's Chicago residence is in Illinois' 1st Congressional District, which is represented by Bobby Rush. If Rush were to step aside in 2018not entirely implausible, as he turns 70 today and has served in the House since 1993Obama could run for Rush's seat while campaigning nationally for other Democratic House candidates on the premise that he'd be selected as Speaker if the party won a majority....

Not enough perks to interest him. Congresscritters are expected to actually work, not play golf and go on extended vacays. Plus, he’d have to PAY for his and family’s meals, housing, clothes, trips, golf outings, no more AF1, etc. He’d probably make more money “writing” books and reading speeches (he’s a real good teleprompter reader).
I attended the Defense Information School at Ft. Benjamin Harrison, Indiana. I’m a much better newsreader than he’ll ever be.
Words cannot express my incredulity.
See there...and I’d vote for you!
Shit. Gas can won’t be empty by then.
Weedy and Wookie gwine be grabbin’ the “God Damn America” Express out of town, bound for da ‘Merica hatin’ global community.
He may be extremely lazy, but he is crazy enough to attempt something to keep himself as the center of attention. He loves being on stage having females throw their panties at him... and males, too, for that matter. His large ego would never allow a stage right. Personally, I can see his doing this. Didn’t we just have a first ‘lady’ who ran for President (which had never happened before, as well) Liberals write the rules others are expected to follow.
Haven’t these people learned anything?
The Obamas have said they arent leaving DC until Sasha graduates and she is only 16.

And 8th grade in D.C. is tough.
That room isn’t big enough for his ego.
He might try for the Job of Governor? Maybe Hawaii or California or Illinois ?
He would, however, have to be elected to the position. Good luck with that.
My hope is Barack Obummer will be exposed long before 2018 and either will be out of the country, or locked up.
A hope in the manner of immunity from prosecutions...
Best chance of what? Losing more seats?
Present!
There is a natural gerrymander tendency against a party whose adherents predominate in cities but is weak otherwise. All that has to happen is that the cities are each made into one or more congressional districts - what could be more natural? - and the party finds itself dominating a few districts, while losing by lesser margins in a larger number of districts. Exactly what a hostile gerrymander does to you. That is highly relevant to this proposal. Obama is known for racial (if I had a son, hed look like Trevon Martin) appeal, and the concentration of blacks in cities is, pretty much, the explanation for Democrat dominance of them. Even if an Obama speakership nominee did produce a Democrat victory in total votes cast for Representatives nationwide, that could very readily leave Democrats nationally in the same situation in which Pennsylvania Democrats find themselves - Democrats representing overwhelming majorities in the cities but many more Republicans representing lesser but comfortable majorities in the countryside.
Thus, an Obama speakership nominee - even if it could be arranged - would not represent a significant threat to the House Republican caucus. It could easily be a benefit instead.
Hmmm...session of congress or golf course? Hmmm...
Amendment 22 - Presidential Term Limits. Ratified 2/27/1951.That isnt exactly airtight; Im surprised it is that loose. Nothing in that precludes Obama from running for VP. Surprising . . .No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than once . . .
Why? Because he hasn’t done ENOUGH to DESTROY the Democrat Party? It’s completely hobbled! Looking as bad as, if not worse than, the 1920s! “Everything Old Is New Again.”
*SNORT*
ROFLMAO! These people are INSANE! And PLEASE - let them keep being so! :)
