Incoming Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., said he wants President-elect Trump to select a "mainstream" candidate to fill the Supreme Court vacancy created by the death of Justice Antonin Scalia.
Asked by NBC on Sunday whether he was comfortable filibustering any Trump nominee for the court, Schumer dodged answering the question directly.
"I hope that President Trump picks a mainstream candidate," Schumer said. "A mainstream candidate is somebody you may not agree with on every issue, but basically believes in precedent."
NBC's Chuck Todd interrupted Schumer and asked, "What does that mean? Can he nominate somebody in your mind that is, say, [Texas Sen.] Ted Cruz? Is he too conservative for you?"
"I'm not going to get into specific candidates, but we'd hope it would be mainstream," Schumer answered. "If it is mainstream, you have to remember, the last four nominees, two from President Bush, two from President Obama, got bipartisan support on the bench. If he doesn't nominate a mainstream candidate, we're going to go at him with everything we have, or her. Go at the candidate with everything we've got because this is so, so important."
Schumer expressed a willingness to work with Trump on issues where the president-elect and Democratic Party agree in a series of Sunday morning interviews. Trump responded by praising Schumer on Twitter.
What Chuckie doesn’t seem to get is President -elect Trump is always 8 steps ahead of him and try as he might, Chuckie is still 8 steps behind.
As a NY businessman I am sure he has had to deal with Schumer a lot. But today, as Schumer will soon realize, Trump isn’t just a businessman and and Schumer is still a senator.
How did you arrive at that conclusion?
He should tweet that he’s thinking about appointing Merrick Garland just to screw with their heads

Who ever Trump picks, the fight in the Senate will be brutal.
Why should Trump listen to someone who clearly did not vote for him? I know that the person elected is supposed to be the President for everyone but since so may say he is “not my President” and their party’s elected representatives do nothing to quell the unrest I think Trump would be right to ignore them all and treat them in the manner they present themselves, ungoverned.

With all due respect to Sen. Schumer, low-information, state sovereignty-ignoring Schumer is an excellent example why the ill-conceived 17th Amendment should never have been ratified.

The 17th Amendment needs to disappear, and the 16th Amendment along with it.
If patriots do not work with Trump to make Congress surrender state powers that the corrupt feds have stolen from the states back to the states, then consider the following.
It is only a matter of time before we have another lawless president like Obama that works in cahoots with corrupt Congress to use those stolen state power to oppress the states and the people.
