Red-state Democrats and party strategists are already nervously looking past 2016, when they are angling to recapture the Senate, to the 2018 elections, hoping against hope that their party isnt setting itself up for a titanic midterm backlash that could flip control of the Senate for a third time in three elections.
As difficult as the 2016 Senate map has been for Republicans, who had to defend numerous blue- and purple-state seats and could lose their majority, Democrats 2018 map looks practically unnavigable. The party starts with five ruby-red seats to defend: Indiana, Missouri, Montana, North Dakota and West Virginia. Then, Democrats have a slew of Senate seats up in traditional swing states, including Florida, Ohio, and Wisconsin. If he doesnt become vice president, Tim Kaine will also face reelection in closely divided Virginia in 2018. And if he does, a Democratic appointee could face an expensive special election in 2017 before the race for a full term the next year.

IN, MO, MT, ND, WV, FL, OH, WI, VA are the easy opportunities? Does it make more sense to build here? or to primary a less than perfect R incumbent? Or should we get greedy and want it all?
REPUBLICANS
John Barrasso (Wyoming)
Bob Corker (Tennessee)
Ted Cruz (Texas)
Deb Fischer (Nebraska)
Jeff Flake (Arizona)
Orrin Hatch (Utah)
Dean Heller (Nevada)
Ahhh, this is why Manchin of West by GOD Virginia denounced Reids horse crap statement today,
Ole Joe has an election coming up.
Remeber well folks he is an obammy butt boy regardless of his line of crap.
We want to destroy the Democrat party. If it takes incrementally better candidates (especially if term limits actually becomes a thing), then that's good.
But Trump has to be successful with at least mostly Conservative policies, or it's a moot point.
The House will be the bloodbath.
The RINOs there will fight Trump and then all the Republicans will face an angrier Republican electorate than ever.
Heller needs a MAGA shock stick.
Nevada GOP cucked themselves into losing pretty much everything.
Prepare for Jumpin’ Joe Manchin in January, IMO. GOP will pick up another seat. No way he runs as a Dem in WV with Trump in the White House.
Personally as a West Virginian I hope he doesn't, after he came out as a gun grabber, we stand a VERY good chance of replacing him with a real conservative in 2018. However if he flips he will likely have enough pull to secure the nomination as a Republican in 2018 then we will be force to hold our noses and vote for another RINO.
I wouldn’t mind seeing Hatch, Flake and Corker primaried. It would be a safe cycle to do it.
I do not understand,
They love him there.
“IN, MO, MT, ND, WV, FL, OH, WI, VA are the easy opportunities?”
Nothing is ever easy :-) ... they’ll be “straightforward pickups” if Trump does a good job during the first half of his term :-).
Trump is an outstanding executive and makes effective use of the bully pulpit. All he needs to do is deliver and communicate. He needs to start with the “more straightforward” topics on his agenda and execute (Obamacare is a great place to start :-) ). He will do that so long as he doesn’t get distracted by all of the political nonsense that occurs in DC.
If he does in fact focus and deliver on an appreciable percentage of his “first 100 days”, the Dems will be facing a loss in the first 5 seats listed. There are a few others in swing states (like the mentioned FL, OH, VA, WI, and PA) that could flip too.
However, that’s all speculation. No need to get ahead of one’s self :-). I’m sure Trump will have someone at least exploring potential US Senate candidates as some of his proposals are going to require a filibuster-proof majority there. Before we go and get all giddy about 2018, Trump MUST deliver on a few items before we can start to write the Dem’s Senate death sentence :-).
Still, it’s fun to dream in the meantime :-)
In 2018 Dems have to defend 23 Senators, GOP only 7. See the list.

I hope to see a true Texas Trumplican run against Ted Cruz in 2018. If such a person runs, they’ve got my vote.
Corker, Flake, Hatch, and Heller all voted for the Gang of Eight amnesty bill and should be Cantorized, primaried out.
Manchin tried to pass gun control, very unpopular in WV, which went for Trump something like 65-35.
This should be an easy pickup.
Hillary's poodle...
Get. Out.
Who has had way too many dog biscuits!
The VAGOP is still controlled by the Cheap Labor Express.
The last two Senate races were winnable, but they insisted on amnesty supporting candidates, leftover Bushie Gillespie and previously defeated Sen. Macaca.
Unless we can nominate a real conservative against the wishes of the party poohbahs, there isn’t much hope of VA electing a GOP Senator.
The VAGOP is trying to saddle us with amnesty-lover Gillespie for the Gov. race next year, which should be winnable following Clinton’s Bag Man.
Illegal voting is easy to stop and must be stopped before mid-terms.
....or was that just more brain-matter weight?
