Finding the patterns: After going to the Democratic contender for more than 20 years, some analysts wonder if Pennsylvania could swing back to the GOP for a Donald Trump victory. Are they giving enough credit to the state's Democratic strongholds?
Pennsylvania is a big prize in the electoral college that has belonged to Democrats for more than two decades, but some analysts and local politicians are wondering if the odd circumstances surrounding the 2016 election could shift the state into the red.
As Pennsylvania has consistently picked Democrats for president since electing Bill Clinton in 1992, many considered Hillary Clinton a shoe-in to win the state. President Obama's former campaign manager, David Plouffe, confidently called a Clinton victory back in July and cautioned candidates from pouring too much money campaigning in the region. Such statements gained credibility following the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia, when polls showed Mrs. Clinton holding an average of an eight-point lead over Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump....

Well, around here I am seeing more and more campaign signs popping up every day. Most of those are for Trump. I have seen only four Hillary signs, and only one Hillary bumper sticker. I’m surprised at neighbors who have a Trump sign in their yard who have never bothered with campaign signs. Also, I’m hearing that lots of folks are coming in to our Voter’s Registration office to change their party affiliation from dem to republican. We tend to be a “Purple” county as opposed to red or blue. We are also a college town and lots of liberal professors, so I’m thinking that, yes, at least in our county, Trump will win. Meanwhile, as buckalfa points out, Philly fraud is the problem.
Allegheny will be closer than the pundits think.
I have no direct input for the race in Eastern PA.
Yea, no matter how much the population of Philadelphia declines, it always has the critical votes. Like when CA liberals move to CO, there are still millions of “Golden” liberals left behind.
nobody wants to stand in line for Hillary.
“I have no direct input for the race in Eastern PA.”
So, where are all the coal miners and steel workers? Surely they’re not for Hillary?
Did you see the article from several days ago about the real impact of 20% of blacks support Trump? There won’t be 110% precincts in places like Philly this time if a significant number of blacks support Trump.
I live in Bucks county Pa. And a large story here is the Navy polluting the water in two to three counties. Anyone with a willingness to solve this issue is big.
Driving two hours in PA yesterday, I saw only two Clinton signs. Too many Trump signs to count.
FWIW, the Clinton signs were both on buildings for sale and one of the buildings was not a home, but the local Democrat headquarters. There, one of the signs in the window was fastened right over the for-sale sign:
CLINTON FOR SALE was the eye-catching effect.
apathetic voters won’t vote?
Nope, but they are in the West, not the East.
You need to check bellwether county Luzerne.
It mirrors the statewide vote. Trump is up there and he should carry the state.
Isn’t the Scranton area heavy on coal mining and in the east?
If Trump can make inroads with Democrats out west (Pittsburgh area), he might be able to "power through" the Philly fraud. A new poll shows Trump up big in Ohio and that has to spill over into western PA.
As for Philly fraud, I keep hearing it bandied about that Obama got 100% of the vote in Philadelphia and that not a single vote was recorded for Romney in 2012.
I have to call BS on that. For if it were true, I'm sure the Trump campaign would be all over this. I'm not saying there's no fraud taking place but 100% of the vote? That can't be ignored.
That’s where I am. See the same thing.
The lack of Hillary signage in Philly area is quite apparent. This is a dyed in the wool democrat area so I expect it doesn't represent a stealth Trump vote. But it probably does represent a real lack of enthusiasm for Hillary. They don't like or trust her and they dont want people to see that they support her. Hopefully they won't show up to vote for her either.
Philly Fraud will happen, always does, but it won’t be anywhere near enough to win PA... Hillary has absolutely NO organic and natural support, even in PA... yes even EASTERN PA.. there is just no natural support for her... she won’t take Philly region with enough of a margin to overwhelm the state....
Election is over, Trump has FL, OH and NC locked at this point... (though the press and gas lighting polls won’t admit it)... He’s at 270+ everything from this point forward is icing, and he’s got over 50 more days to put icing on the cake.
PA will be part of that Icing.
