Idaho 1st District Congressman Raul Labrador, who will be going to the national GOP convention in Cleveland as a Ted Cruz delegate, called today for Donald Trump to choose Cruz as his running mate. Labrador said that would take the two guys who got about 70 percent of the votes in just about every primary, every caucus and bring the team together. That would be historic, it would be something akin to what Abraham Lincoln did when he brought a team of rivals together.
Labrador, who spoke during a monthly Conversations with Conservatives Q-and-A session with Washington, D.C. reporters and bloggers today under the auspices of the Heritage Foundation, said, Theres been some sore words between the two. They just need to make up, they need to work together. And I think some of us who have hesitated a little bit, have been concerned, we know that at least a No. 2 guy is somebody who is solidly behind the Constitution and can really give him the help that he needs. I think that would be a solid choice, and I think you could see the convention completely unify behind a ticket like that.
Labradors comments came after he and other "Freedom Caucus" members were asked if theyd support moves at the convention to unbind delegates, and allow them to vote their conscience in order to nominate someone other than Trump. None expressed support for that idea.
I keep hearing all these names those people have 1 percent name I.D., nobody knows who they are, Labrador said. Lets get somebody like Ted Cruz. Then he could give Donald Trump the assistance that I think he needs on policy and on the Constitution and these other issues. Labrador said he believes Cruz has outsider status, but having already worked within the system could really bring about the change that we need in Washington, D.C.
Cruz has not been among those talked up as a likely VP pick for Trump, who during the campaign repeatedly referred to Cruz as Lyin Ted. Cruz, for his part, referred to Trump during the primary campaign as a "pathological liar," a "narcissist," a "serial philanderer" and "utterly amoral."
Trump met separately with House and Senate Republicans this morning. The Hill reported that he was accompanied by his daughter Ivanka and campaign manager Paul Manafort, and his meeting with House Republicans drew about 200, some of whom came away impressed and some less so. The meeting with Senate Republicans was tense and combative, the Washington Post reported.
Labrador said, Im not a huge fan. But he also said, I think he has a good gut instinct on what the American people are feeling and suffering right now. Said Labrador, He told us again today, once again, that he will make sure his judicial nominations go through the Federalist Society and the Heritage Foundation. If he does everything else differently than what I would do, but just does that one thing that will have an impact for a generation. Because if not, were going to lose the America that we know today, if we have Hillary Clinton.
Most of the recent speculation on Trumps likely pick of a running mate has Chris Christie and Newt Gingrich as the leading contenders.
Shouldn’t the VP be someone who wants the President to win?
The Dream Team!
Did? Has Cruz endorsed Trump yet, or is he still raising his secret army to disrupt the delegates at the convention...$5, $10, $20...whatever it takes...
Bingo! Although on the face of it, Cruz appears to be qualified for some other post, Trump may well pass based on Cruz's character.
I like a lot about Cruz’ politics! But he has acted the sore loser, which demeans him. And he’s not eligible for VP either (12th Amendment, US Constitution).
I think Cruz can do a lot of good in the Senate if he simply decides to stay there awhile and gain some seniority in the system there. Or, I am confident DT can find a good post for Cruz in the administration doing something useful...
I am also sure DT can find a good VP who will add a lot for the success of the campaign... as well as do a good job, of course, in WashDC. There are many possibilities. (I have always thought Congresswoman Bachmann has a lot to offer, but there are several more worth consideration....you name it!)
Not going to happen.
Trump burned a lot of bridges. His choices among major office holders are quite limited.
He made his bed and has to lie in it.
Yet, I don’t think that is a bad thing for Trump. He won the primaries Trump being Trump and should continue that way.
As far as beeps, it is hard to say. They have to not have a career anymore or be obsequious (e.g. Christie, Perry).
Possibilities:
Newt
Scott Brown
Christie
Giuliani
Rick Perry
Why don’t we split the difference and say it was a chocolate lab that did it.

Cruz flushed his career down the tube by siding with the protesters. NeverCrooz
Black Labs Matter
I do know about what happened up until he "dropped out".
And that was scorched earth.
Black Labs Matter
Maybe he should go back to catching frisbees.
Maybe he should go back to catching frisbees.
Labrador is for Cruz, but what about his home province of Alberta. If Cruz can’t carry his home Province then what good is he to Trump?
I need some help. I was wondering if someone can put these great conservative thinkers/philosophers/politicians/economists in order of importance:
Mark Levine
Edmund Burke
Milton Friedman
Russell Kirk
Donald Trump
Barry Goldwater
Rush Limbaugh
William F. Buckley Jr.
Ayn Rand
Ronald Reagan
John Locke
Donald Trump Fan Girls on Free Republic
James Madison
Yes, I’ve said that I will pull the switch for Trump, as I did for McCain and Romney. And as I did with McCain and Romney, I will go behind the school gym and puke.
You put Levine on this list?! That’s a joke. So is Limbaugh. He is a muckracker, not a conservative. And “Donald Trump Fan Girls on Free Republic”, who are they? Never heard of them.
You could not have answered my question any better than to prove my point... Thanks, fan girl. :-)
You and Raul Labrador can be Trump’s food tasters and unvested body guards protecting Trump’s back.
