Ryan Broadens Path for Cruz By Dampening GOP Nomination Chatter
The Texas Tribune ^ | April 12, 2016 | Abby Livingston

U.S. House Speaker Paul Ryan issued an emphatic statement Tuesday that he would not accept the Republican Party's presidential nomination this summer at the GOP convention in Cleveland, effectively broadening U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz's potential path to becoming the party's nominee.

"Let me be clear: I do not want, nor will I accept the Republican nomination," the Wisconsin Republican told reporters at a news conference at Republican National Committee headquarters. "So let me speak directly to the delegates on this: If no candidate has a majority on the first ballot, I believe you should only choose a person who actually participated in the primary. Count me out."

"I simply believe that if you want to be the nominee — to be the president — you should actually run for it," he added. "I chose not to. Therefore, I should not be considered. Period."

Ryan's statement echoed President Lyndon Johnson's 1968 statement that he would not accept the Democratic nomination, which blew open the presidential race and led to chaos at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago.

It's no secret in Washington that many power brokers are deeply disturbed with their current options: real estate magnate Donald Trump, who has waged a campaign filled with statements offensive to some women and minority groups; or Cruz, who elates the conservative base but is not personally liked in some Republican circles....

Phooey.

Ryan will take it in a heartbeat.

He didn’t want the Speaker job either.

Cruz has only won four actual votes, the rest were nonsense partisan “caucuses”.

Cruz will in no way, win a general election.

No way.

He should stand down, and get with Donald Trump to rebuild our country.

How are caucuses more “partisan” than a primary? Because Democrats aren’t allowed to cross-over?

Cruz won’t win.

He won’t. He is however tracking toward giving the GOPe back, what Donald Trump was heading toward, turning them out and putting ourselves in control of our party once again.

You are not backing a winner. You are backing a disruptor, who is working to give the GOPe back the party, they have so screwed up.

You are backing the wrong guy.

Ryan said the nomination would be open to anyone that RAN in the primaries, not someone currently running. HINT he wasn’t talking about Teddy.

I think the Establishment has already cut a deal with one of the remaining 3 candidates, namely Trump. That’s why Kasich is still in. He’s in to keep Cruz from catching Trump. Trump will either get the 1,237 on his own, or he’ll get there in Cleveland with Kasich and the Establishment’s help. To me, this statement from Ryan, an Establishment spokesman, just backs up my theory.

No Trump supporter should vote for Cruz. Never, he hasnt accomplished anything but running his mouth. In many states his support has been in theteens or about 20%. No to amnesty loving Rafael. He is not natural born. They have tried to fix it for lyin Ted. Resist the tyranny !

Ryan is in an interesting spot. He most likely will not be Speaker of the House in January 2017 if Trump is the nominee. The down ballot damage Trump could do might well flip the House, and more likely will ensure Democrats take the Senate. So his neutrality pledge was nice, but not convincing.

Notice how the GOPe refuses to say That the nominee should be either Trump or Cruz, rather they are saying anyone who is participating in the primary. All the candidates are participating in the primary, they did not drop out, they only suspended their campaigns.

He didn’t want the Speaker job either.

That's exactly what I said when he made that ridiculous announcement.

Actually, if Trump has the nomination stolen from him while we all watch, that’s when the House and Senate could flip. The down the ballot people running will be devastated if that happens.

If you think Romney had problems with getting out the vote last time, just wait and see what happens to everything if the GOPE gets their candidate in.

The GOPE is causing this potential problem, not Trump.

I noticed that Ryan said the nominee should be someone that “ran” for it, but he did not specifically say they had to be still running. I take that as including the ones that dropped out.

Cruz won’t win.

The chances of either Cruz or Trump ever winning the presidency ended when Cruz started doing well in the polls and Trump began his character assassination campaign against him.

Remember the line "He's doing better now" in the debate? That's when it was over.

Thanks to the thin skinned, tantrum throwing, brat, Trump, and his poop-slinging sychophants, both Trump and Cruz are now "damaged goods" and cannot be elected.
