Bernie Sanders and Ted Cruz appear poised for victory in Tuesdays Wisconsin primary, but Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump are still in good shape nationally.
Thats the finding from Public Policy Pollings latest survey, released on March 31. In Wisconsin, Sanders leads Clinton 49-43 in the Democratic primary; on the GOP side, Cruz has a narrow 38-37 lead over Trump, with John Kasich a distant third at 17 percent.
See the Wisconsin numbers here.
PPP director Tom Jensen says the Republican numbers are a little deceiving, though. He says about a third of Kasich supporters say they may change their minds on election day and they favor Cruz over Trump by a wide margin, so Cruz may end up with a bigger victory than the poll indicates. (Donald Trump remains the frontrunner in PPPs national poll, though, with a 42-32 lead over Cruz.)
See PPPs national numbers here.
On the Democratic side, Jensen says Sanders leads Clinton partly because Wisconsin is an open-primary state, where non-Democrats can vote as well. Clinton leads Sanders among registered Democrats, 50-42, but Sanders has a big lead among independents, 62-31, giving him the overall edge. (Jensen says this doesnt bode well for Sanders in the long run, though: after Wisconsin, most of the biggest remaining states are closed-primary states, and thats an advantage for Clinton.)
Looking ahead to the general election, PPPs latest national survey suggests that Sanders and Clinton would perform equally well what matters is whom the Republicans nominate. In hypothetical head-to-head matchups, Sanders and Clinton both beat Donald Trump by 7-8 point margins and trail John Kasich by 3-4 points. Both Democrats also lead Ted Cruz Clinton by 3 points, Sanders by 7. (Could the Republicans benefit by nominating a dark horse like Mitt Romney or Paul Ryan at a contested convention? Jensen says no: both candidates would still lose to whomever the Democrats nominate. In fact, in this weeks national poll, Romney performs even worse than Trump.)

The common sense and logic that says, like Al Gore, that Donald Trump, like a leopard, can change his stripes but Ted Cruz in the last couple of weeks is not the conservative that he is always been his whole life.
Logical fallacy. Who is the DC Insider Ivy league lawyer with a history of saying and doing whatever it takes to win that changed his spots when he ran for office?
The response was emotional based, The fact is was still on the side of America’s enemies against who they fear. An illogical position for an American loving conservative.
They sure do know it
Which candidate has been targeted by mobs of flying monkeys funded by George Soros? Why would Soros target the guy most likely to lose to Hillary?
Cruz couldn’t beat a dead puppy in a national election. You really need to start figuring out why the Dems/liberal media keep manipulatin’ against The Donald.
If they really thought they would beat him, they would be supporting him like crazy instead of 24/7 drumbeat of attack.
In 40 years of watching politics closely I have never seen ANY candidate attacked in the general media as much, and as constantly, as Donald Trump.
I think you honestly need to address why Cruz paid $500,000 for Carly Fiorina back in June of 2015 when she was still running against him?
And please don’t make us think that Trump is “ buying” delegates while Cruz is just persuading them to cross over because of his charm and personality. Hard ball indeed
They say you can tell a lot about a man by his enemies.
PPP cannot be trusted, I will never forget the Todd Akins poll
Let me see if I've got the latest Trump speak well understood:
The son of an illiterate, impoverished, refugee dishwasher through merit and hard-won achievement becomes the national debate champion while an undergraduate at Princeton, law review at Harvard Law school, and clerk to the Chief Justice of the United States is tainted because he is an "Ivy League lawyer"
The same man whom Trump lovers habitually describe as one who could not get along with his fellow senators and could not accomplish anything is the same Senator Trump lovers accused of "saying and doing anything to get elected." It is remarkable how such a smart Ivy League lawyer would be so stupid in real life about actually saying and doing anything to get elected.
Meanwhile Trump, son of a millionaire, social climber, the consummate insider whose telephone call before he ran for office would be taken by the President of the United States, the same man who admits to bribing politicians, is touted as an independent man of the people.
Ain't Trump speak wonderful?
No I don't because Cruz never paid $500,000 to Carly Fiorina.
“...the same man who admits to bribing politicians, is touted as an independent man of the people.”
Hey, that’s how you get things done! You’re not looking at his successful results, just his methods. What’s wrong with you Cruzers anyway? /sarc
Keep,donating to those Cuz superPACs

Ignoring the liberal ad homing emotional-based attack on Trump Supporters and Using your leopard changing his spot theme:
Ted Cruz was hired as a partner Morgan Lewis & Bockius in 2008, during the presidential election in which Barack Obama became president. Morgan Lewis & Bockius made contributions totaling over $200,000 in support of Obamas campaigns for President, as well as $750,000 to Democrats since Cruz became a partner.

Among his final clients were a businessman who pleaded guilty to bribery, a drug manufacturer that fired an employee who refused to break the law, and a company that illegally copied anothers tire design. Cruz lost all of those cases.
1. The businessman was Robert Mericle, who bribed two judges to give minors harsher sentences in the infamous kids for cash system. Why? To make money for his private juvenile detention center.
2. Cruz represented Moog, a company that fired a spokesperson for refusing to promote its pain control pump Accufuser for nonapproved purposes. Cruz argued in appeals court that the trial jury didnt fully analyze whether the company made the request. The appeals court found the evidence for illegal misconduct to be overwhelming, and Cruz lost that case too.
3. Cruz also made money from a case he argued in December 2011 on behalf of a Chinese tire company against charges that it illegally took blueprints from Florida businessman Jordan Fishman. Cruz failed to disprove the accusations. Last June, an appeals court upheld a $26 million jury verdict in favor of Fishman.
These and more are unemotional facts about Cruz’s say-anything-to-win character and past conduct inconsistent with the perception hes a consistent conservative.
Seems after getting burned by so many “conservative” Ivy league lawyers over the years who back stabbed us over and over, one would learn to not do the same thing and expect a different result.
LOL! How naive and quaint!
Um, have you ever heard of push polls?
Some polls aren't examples of "pollsters trying to get the polls right"; quite the opposite: they are instead an attempt to manipulate public opinion, rather than measuring it.
For instance, the recent Marquette poll, which had a very small sample size, and a correspondingly huge margin of error (MOE), had Cruz up by 10 points over Trump. Unfortunately, with a 5.8% margin of error, such a lead is meaningless.
Contrast that poll with the Optimus poll, which had over 6000 respondents, and a tiny 1.14% margin of error, which has Donald Trump leading Cruz 29% to 25%, which is well outside the poll's margin of error.
And yet, all we hear the Mass Media doing 24/7/365 is parroting the mathematically unsound Marquette poll. You know, the one wherein Ted Cruz isn't even leading outside the margin of error.
At the same time, of course, they act as if this Optimus poll doesn't even exist, even though it is much more accurate, and consequently has Donald Trump leading outside the margin of error.
It's almost as if these Media outlets have an agenda to push, and as a result they are much more focused on manipulating public opinion than reporting on it.
Indeed, they appear to be transparently slanting their reporting in order to serve their propaganda needs.
Like I said, "boob bait for bubbas".
I think I'll wait and see the results of the Wisconsin poll which is being conducted on Tuesday. That's the one that will matter most to Ted Cruz. Donald Trump, not so much...
If you want to go down that road you have to disqualify Abraham Lincoln from the presidency of the United States because of the clients he represented.
Since lawyers can refuse cases especially civil ones. Since partners vote on large campaign donations.
How many partners were there in that firm and how did Ted Cruz vote? Did he even vote?
Meanwhile, we can expect Donald Trump to attempt to buy delegates just as he has bought politicians his whole career.
I see how it is. If Cruz gets to the delegates (with a bucket load of promises), he is "convincing them to vote their consciences." But if Trump gets to them with his skills of negotiation, he is "bribing" them.
That's just the same kind of weaselly language that we get from lawyers. It is the same activity in both cases, you just describe it differently.
Lawyers can refuse cases especially civil ones. partners vote on large campaign donations.
Every argument you make defending his lack of honorable character hurts your position, it shows he is has no moral compass -putting all his well crafted conservative optics in the perspective of a lawyer saying and doing whatever it takes to win. We have been down this road many times before and it has always turned out bad for us.
Really--not even Reagan? I seem to recall that the attacks against Reagan were brutal (figuratively). He was going to start WWIII and lob nuclear warheads all over the world.
The fact that horrible things were supposed to happen if Reagan got elected, and they never did is part of how I became "exDemMom." I never could stand Reagan, his voice and soft manner of speaking grate my nerves like fingernails scraped across a chalkboard. If I read his words, however, I can see that he said some very clever things.
