UB Professor’s research plays a role in Cruz presidential campaign

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - University at Buffalo Professor and Political Scientist James Campbell has done more then 20 years of research on political campaigns and strategy. Some of which are now guiding the Ted Cruz presidential campaign.

The Ted Cruz campaign credits psychological data and analytics in its strategy so far. The campaign profiles and targets potential supporters and their concerns. They're also using a strategy targeting the "base" of supporters, or a guaranteed vote.

It's something Dr. James Campbell says is nothing new. His research on this has been around for decades. He said, ""They're looking for anyway to kind of break the traditional methods and use new technologies to get their message out as well."

He added, "You really need to satisfy the base as well as reach out to centrist voters. You can't take the base of your party for granted."

An article in the National Review points to the dozens of articles written by Campbell that are now influencing Ted Cruz. He has spent decades measuring the impact of voters on presidential elections.

He said, "They want to be represented, that's the bottom line. They're not willing to just choose the lesser of two evils if their party seems to be taking them for granted or ignoring their concerns." Something he says makes sense for the Cruz campaign. Campbell says he is banking on stimulating the turn out of conservative voters.

He said, "That may be the takeaway point from my research. You can't take the base for granted. A lot of people thought, "Where is the base going to go?" A lot of them stay home."

Dr. Campbell does say there is one part of his research that the Cruz campaign should be focusing more on. He says a divided party is a weak party. And he said, right now, the Republican party is a highly divided party.

Oh my, the pot is calling the kettle black. So Cruz has already lost JoSixChip. Until all the votes are cast, we don’t know who has won.

I suggest you stuff your vindictive p-—— garbage. I so tired of your smart mouth. You’re one of the more mouthy Trump supporters on the site.

I wouldn’t be so proud of supporting someone who backed the Obama stimulus and auto bailout, along with being a serial adulterer and strip club owner. Maybe The Donald reflects the values of his supporters. Some of you may want to start an “Adulterers for Trump” group.

My hope is that Trump and Cruz will consolidate their campaigns. I like them both!

Cruz is young. Let Trump go in and do the un-PC heavy lifting on border-security, trade, military build-up, debt and currency.

Then Cruz can follow with re-establishing constitutional government.

Sound like a plan?

"The Ted Cruz campaign credits psychological data and analytics in its strategy so far. The campaign profiles and targets potential supporters and their concerns."

All that, and Ted is still running 20+ points behind Trump, nationally, and is being beat by him in every demographic.

If your product is a tough sell, I don't care how much whiz-bang technology and spin you use in your presentation, you're only gonna close so many people.

On the other hand, give the people someone who is responsive to their most urgent concerns, and who is convincing when he says he's going to do whatever it takes to put those things right, and you've got a runaway best seller on your hands.

Nope. Ted was born in Canada. Not eligible.

I just told you like it is cowboy. If you don’t believe it, just pay attention to what cruz does over the next week. He’ll ether work to strengthen Trumps campaign, or he will go scorched earth. Angain, I’m betting on the latter with his FR supporters cheering him on. Like many in the GOPe, they would rather see the end of America under hillary then admit they were wrong about cruz. But buck-up, it wont matter anyway. Trump is on course to win without cruz.

You have a poor opinion of him because he’s a divorcee, and a liberal Democrat with left-wing opinions on issues and ‘rubbed elbows’ with unsavory types?

Not gonna bite huh? Good for you. Prior to switching parties in 1964 to the GOP, Ronald Reagan was all those things.
Asked to explain, he said, “I didn’t leave them. They left me.”

“Vinictive pricks” ... c’mon Jo. Tell us what you’re really thinking!

It's true, I avoided your question. Your post seemed reasonable, I'm just done with cruz.

“He’ll ether work to strengthen Trumps campaign, or he will go scorched earth.”

Or, he may just go home to Canada.

sorry, I responded to the wrong posts, let's try that again.

Not gonna bite huh?

Not only does cruz have no chance of winning the primary, his political career is over. He has so shown himself to be one of the sleaziest politicians in modern history. I expect that cruz will do as much damage as he can on his way out. I also expect you and your ilk will cheer him on. And I'm sure you would prefer hillary over Trump, so there really is no much else for us to talk about.

Your anti conservative candidate lost in Iowa.

You have no special knowledge of South Carolina

Cruz is by far the best candidate running.

Cruz shredded your child man last night.

Where is the television quote that Ben Carson suspended his campaign the night of the Iowa Caucus?

If he is relying of the Dana Bash comment, I recall she said he is returning to Florida”. Not “suspending” his campaign.

Cruz on his Wednesday rally speech used the exact word “suspend”.
