Stephen F. Hayes: Some Iowans Are Now Former Trump Supporters Because He Ditched Debate
RealClearPolitics ^ | January 28, 2016

On Thursday's edition of Special Report, Stephen F. Hayes of the Weekly Standard revealed he has met several Iowans who are now "former Trump supporters" because he decided not to participate in tonight's debate hosted by the FOX News Channel.

"I talked to a couple of Trump supporters who are now former Trump supporters," Hayes said. "Precisely because they thought that his sitting out this one in particular was a slap in the face of Iowans."

"I talked to one woman last night who was not a Trump supporter, she was going to caucus for Rubio or Cruz. She said, 'I take this very personally. We here in Iowa take our participation in the caucuses very seriously, very personally. And if he is not going to show up and doesn't treat this with the seriousness it deserves, given the fact that it is a contest to becoming the president of the United States, I may stay home,'" Hayes recalled.

"I don't know if that is representative of any broader Iowa population," Hayes acknowledged, "but if the question is, are some Iowans upset about it? Yeah, the answer is some Iowans are upset about it."(continued)

Trump may lose some votes because he skipped out on the debate. Cruz may lose some votes because of the mailer. They may offset one another. And Rubio may be the beneficiary.

I think he would have lost more votes if he walked into the Fox news kill zone.

Dear Stephen F. Hayes,

Some viewers are now former FOX viewers because they taunted TRUMP in the first debate, since that debate and before this last debate.

I talked to a couple of dozen FOX viewers who are now former FOX viewers.

Not really. He doesn’t bottom feed in DC and has the RNC wetting their pants. He has never been part of the political class

You can answer your question simply, who in the GOP establishment is in favor of Trump? Hayes is anti Trump, and in favor of Bush, Rubio, Kasich, or Christy.

Trump has cred in the business world, the RE development world, and even the TV Guild, none of these make him part of the GOP establishment. Your substitution of the term “elite” puts a different spin, but I would contend that the National Review editors who wrote articles against Trump would be the elite establishment you are referring to.

Cruz mailer trumped my desire to ever vote for him.

He'd have been demolished. I'm sure Megyn had videos of Trump's abortion clip, of eminent domain, maybe pics of the Clintons at his wedding. Fox should be ashamed of themselves. Megyn wasn't practicing journalism, she was playing prosecutor complete with exhibits A, B, etc.

On Iowa. Any doubts about the nomination? Remember the third party thing? Seems like decades ago. Good thing Cruz is haughty and doesn’t make deals.

So one of the earliest, most viciously anti-Trump Rupert Murdoch whores cites two...TWO...alleged vote-switching Iowans, and it’s somehow “newsworthy”?

If this is representative of the depth of thought of the average Iowan, all I would say is: How stupid are the people of Iowa?

The media try to portray the people of Iowa as stubborn and spiteful. I don't believe the media.
