Donald Trump has attacked Ted Cruz roughly a billion times over the last week for having taken out loans from Citibank and Goldman Sachs. Like most everything Trump says, his attacks are short on facts and even shorter on making sense. He claims somehow that Cruz attempted to hide the loans, even though he openly disclosed them on public filings (just not the right ones).
Here he is, in fact, saying that Cruz is âworse than Hillary, if you think about it,â because of the loans:

More specifically, Trump has repeatedly reiterated the claim (at the beginning of the clip) that âthey own himâ because he has taken out loans from them. Heâs made the nonsensical claim repeatedly that Ted Cruz canât âprotect peopleâ from Citibank or Goldman Sachs or whoever, because he has taken out loans from them or personally guaranteed loans to his campaign from them.
I donât know, I donât feel like I have ever needed protection from Citibank or Goldman Sachs, but I digress. Because if that claim is true about Ted Cruz, it is also true about Donald Trump. I mean, of course it is. There is absolutely no way that a guy who has spent his life as a real estate mogul has not at one time taken out huge, major loans from every major investment bank in the country. UPDATE: A poster on twitter has pointed out that Donald Trump is âownedâ by almost literally everyone according to his most recent financial disclosures. He has billions (with a âBâ) of dollars of outstanding loans from virtually every major Wall Street bank, including Capital One, Deutsche Bank, ISB, UBS, and Merrill Lynch.
Citibank, in particular, played a major role in one of the Trumpâs organizationâs more notorious bankruptcies, when the Trump Plaza Hotel in Atlantic City was underwater and Trump owed over $550 million on it to various creditors, with Citibank at the head. In order to restructure his debt, Trump gave Citibank and other creditors a 49% ownership interest in the hotel.
As for Goldman Sachs, Trump is himself a shareholder in Goldman Sachs, which means he has a direct financial interest in its success. One would think that would make Trump even less enthusiastic about protecting me from Goldman Sachs (whatever that means) than Cruz would.
There is essentially not a major Wall Street entity that Donald Trump or his companies have not taken out loans from or received financing from. In fact, thatâs more or less his entire business model. This lengthy ABC piece details how each and every one of them has at one time been circling Trump or his companies as they have been left holding the bag for all or part of loans he took out from them.
If Ted Cruz is owned by Citibank and Goldman Sachs just because he once took out a loan from them, then what that means is that he is owned by a several fewer banks than Donald Trump is.
“RedState was GOPe long before Trump declared his candidacy. “
Why do you consider it GOPe? Just because they promoted Romney, McCain, or any other left leaning establishment Republican?
Well, how is that any different than Trump supporters expecting us to support Trump or else? Trump is further left-leaning than any other candidate currently running for the republican primary and Trump is clearly involved financially with many democratic establishment politicians.
If its BS where is the info to support your contention?
Shuffling money around is a group activity.
I remember people saying Trumps empire was so leveraged at one point they HAD to keep loaning him money or the banks would suffer
Its called too big to fail
Looks like Goldman Sachs needs Ted Cruz to replace Jon Corzine, their former US Senator (D-Goldman Sachs).
The Vampire Squid thinks it will try "Republican" flavor, this time - with a healthy dollop of "Canadian" splashed on top.
After all, "Kenyan" tasted pretty good...
Everything negative against Trump is BS..
Right!!! He doesn’t always use his own money.. He gets loans like everyone else..
He's a wholly owned subsidiary of the Vampire Squid.
Trump was a customer, not an insider. Big difference.
I will sign up to canvas for ballot access signatures in a heartbeat. With all the volunteers he could probably get all the signatures he needs in every state in a day and a half. Angry people ready to stick it back at the GOP will descend on Trump campaign offices en masse to sign petitions.
And you think that makes Cruz worse than Hillary who is responsible for Benghazi? Who emails classified national security information on her private server? Who has collected money and magically those who “donated” get things they want from us? Who is backed by national bank-breaker, George Soros? You hate Cruz that much to compare his being married to an employee of G-S to the enabler of a probable rapist?
Hillary didn't take money for Benghazi...
I'll go easy on you. You didn't trash Palin like the other "Cruzers"...
No, actually - I was quite supportive of Cruz until YESTERDAY.
I got a bellyful of the vicious "Cruzers", who ignored Jim's call for "peace" and started attacking Sarah Palin.
Now, they're going to get what they've been asking for. You get in the way, you'll get it, too.
Hillary has taken money, via the Clinton Foundation, from several Middle East countries. While she was Secretary of State, the M.E. donations nearly doubled and arms deals to M.E. countries were suddenly in vogue. Guess who made the arms? Why, U.S. weapons manufacturers that also donated to the Clinton Foundation. I wonder who made the guns Hillary was running through Benghazi to the Syrian rebels?
Did Hillary take money for Benghazi? What didn’t Hillary take money for?
Oh, the hypocrisy.
We all need to back off and follow the New Conservative Formula before everyone forgets it. (Trump or Cruz) > John McCain. And even John McCain would have been better than what we ended up with!
Rubio does underhanded stuff - bad (I can see that).
Cruz does something that looks like it might be an issue - no problem because "I'm a Cruz supporter".
Trump does business deals unconnected with his family's area and unconnected with a possible conflict in politics - bad because I hate Trump.
If we ain't consistent and honest, our cause is tainted - you be one of the biggest tainters....

BS...I’m not going to sift through hours of FR articles at 3am.
If you want to sit there and claim that Trumpets have not stated on record that Trump is claiming that Trump has been thoroughly grilled about his financial support of the Clintons and other dems and that Trump answered those claims by stating that he did what required to conduct business, the this weekend I will find those posts and show you to be full of BS. However, the deal is if I find those articles then you and PUNY OBAMA have to leave FR. If you’re not willing to take that bet then shut your trolling mouth! Everyone on FR knows exactly the articles and posts that I speak of and to play coy is such BS.
You obviously must be quite young. They flat-out lied about Barry Goldwater, saying all kinds of horrible things. That is the worst I ever saw it. I'm told they did the same to Bob Taft, but that was before my time.
Reagan got attacked like this too. So did W -- saying he was a smirking chimp who was responsible for 9/11 and lied us into a war for personal benefit of some kind or the other.
In this cycle, Ted Cruz has gotten it at lest as badly as Touchback Trump has -- and Touchback Trump is doing a lot of it himself.
Cruz didn’t hide it; he simply put it on the wrong form, then corrected it after the deadline. That was a mistake, but not a crime or an attempt to hide anything. it was publicly available on other forms.
