While exploring his own 2016 GOP presidential bid last year, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney told Jeb Bush that he wasn't sure the former Florida governor could defeat Democratic hopeful Hillary Clinton to win the White House.
Romney recalled his remarks during an interview with The Washington Post, telling the newspaper of his meeting with Bush in January 2015.
"Jeb, to be very honest, I think it's very hard for you to post up against Hillary Clinton and to separate yourself from the difficulty of the W. years and compare them with the Clinton years," Romney recalled saying to Bush.
According to Romney, Bush responded that "he was going to make his campaign about the future, not about the past."
"I didn't say anything at that point," Romney told the Post. "But as he left, I said to myself, 'Gosh, in my opinion, it's not going to be as easy to make that separation as I think he gives the impression it will be.' One of the few things I predicted that turned out to be true."
A Bush spokesperson declined to comment to the newspaper, saying that they wanted to honor Bush's commitment to Romney about keeping their meeting private.
Romney, the 2012 GOP nominee who lost to Barack Obama, openly explored running for president in 2016 for several weeks early last year before deciding against it and calling for "one of our next generation of Republican leaders" to run for the GOP nomination.
Willard doesn’t understand - Yeb speaks Spanish.
Wasn’t that the whole idea? Jeb would gracefully lose in an ‘historic’ election of the first woman president.
and GOPebonics
Romney to Bush,I don’t understand why you’re still here.
Notice how George Romney's son simply accepts the premise of dynastic politics -- that Jeb is the heir to the Bush Administrations and Hillary is the heir to her husband's administration.
Doesn’t Mitt have anything else to do these days?
There should be a pasture for old, useless RINO losers.
Mittens, his daddy said it’s his turn, mmmkay.
Romney would know about losing. Seriously, why would anyone take advice from someone who has won exactly one election in his life and knew that he had zero chances of winning re-election? However, Jeb should take the advice since it is so obvious to everyone that even Romney realizes it.
Yeb! Dropped his last name and added excitement with the exclamation point. Guess it didn’t work...
“Yeb, buddy, you’re polling behind your brother, Richard Nixon, Charles Manson, and Satan at the moment. Could be you need to polish up the campaign a little bit, bud. Yrs, the Mittster”
Well, at least this proves Romney was right about one thing.
Take it from the expert!
That’s kinda like having Bob Uecker tell you “I don’t know if you can hit.”
LOL!
Yeb! cannot win, but neither can Willard
Next generation = Trump.
They have to be passing their pants. Trump gets in and the establishment loses 35 years of GOPe control and power.
Some will lose power, most will lose money and others will lose insider information they used to be ahead of others.
Trump better have a good crew watching his back. Many on all sides want him assassinated at this point I’m.
Excuse part of the post, these devices auto correct to the point of being incorrect.
Mittens and Jebbers—two LOSERS meeting to figure out what went wrong.
Surrender, Jebbers!
