If you had to vote in your state primary/caucus today, knowing what you know now about the various declared and probable candidates, who would you vote for? Why? Who would you like to see as the running mate for your preferred candidate? If you could help staff your candidates cabinet and other top appointments, who would you choose? If you could recommend different congressional leaders than we have now, who would they be? And who would you like to see on the Supreme Court and why? And finally, feel free to donate to Free Republic.

What was so funny about “farting”.
Is it a punchline from a Monty Python skit/movie? If so...you misquoted it.
To: papertyger
Oooooooooooooooh...sorry, it’s late and I guess I misunderstood. :-(

Not so fast at quoting LSM polls.

How enthusiastic would you say you are about voting for president in next year's election-- extremely enthusiastic, very enthusiastic, somewhat enthusiastic, not too enthusiastic, or not at all enthusiastic?

Those polls don't tell the whole story. Democrats don't care about voting for Hillary. As time goes on the reality of the inevitability of Trump's win will become even more evident.

Whereas most of the Cruz supporters are going on pure emotion; sadly. The thing that has struck me in reading this thread is that a large proportion of the people affirming Cruz also say it is because he is a (fill in the blank: reliable, true, proven, etc) conservative. To me, this shows their idealism rather than realism. Their starting point is from an unrealistic view of where the country as a whole stands, and how nearly impossible it would be to elect a religious conservative in the current Marxism-saturated, corrupt and corrupting environment.
In post 422 I talked about some of the variables that would figure into a truly scientific poll. As far as the numbers on this thread go, a good pollster would want to know the age of the poster, what state they are from, how often they actually do vote, and in terms of FR, how long they have been a freeper; since, as someone pointed out, political operatives surely have been signing on here lately to try to influence opinion on many of the candidates. So the only "truth" this thread is good for is this moment in time for those who signed on. And given that this is a conservative forum, it's no surprise that a lot of people want Cruz. Hardly an accurate snapshot of how the actual elections will go.

“Fart proudly” is actually a quote from Benjamin Franklin. Not that the argument-loser-so-he-threw-in-a-rude-word actually knew that...

No worries.
I just find it interesting that for all our emphasis on “histories,” no one seems to have brought that up.
At the very least, I’m thinking the vast majority of celebrities win their first election if they can make it to the general election.

Yep, spotted a double voter for Cruz and a double voter
for Trump. Honest mistakes I’m guessing.

You don't have to like it, but a reasonable case can be made for Kelo.
I'm impressed that so many localities moved so fast to take it off the table by legislative action.
You act like Kelo is the equivalent of Simon Legree taking fair Nell's milk cow, and like any other trope, it doesn't hold up to a clear eyed examination.
Actually, that cow analogy is pretty accurate. The only variation is that Simon Legree must pay Nell some minimal token amount before handing Nell's cow over to the butcher to sell for beef, on the expectation that the economic benefit of the beef is greater than that of the milk. This would pass the current SCOTUS treatment of "Public Use," because the notion of the public using the property has been stretched near to infinity, as long as the confiscating governmental unit offers some whisper of a possible rationalization, like maybe we'll get more taxes. But at the end of the day, Nell loses her milk cow, is not compensated for the loss of her milk-selling business, only for the carcass of the cow, and Legree gets steak in abundance, until he needs another cow.
For a somewhat less florid but legally more precise discussion, please see the following article:
http://www.heritage.org/research/reports/2015/06/revisiting-kelo
Bottom line, Kelo is horrible law. It trashes the heart and soul of the constitutional imperative, which runs through every fiber of that venerable document, namely the protection of the private individual from the overreach of government, whether the subject is life, liberty, or property. The systematic redefinition of "public use" to "potential public benefit" destroys the foundational purpose of the text. and as that purpose fails so do the liberties it was designed to protect.
Peace,
SR

how ironic.
this yankee leans towards Cruz first, then Trump, although I go back and forth twice a day lately.
and all you Southern guys and gals are voting for, not only a New Yawka, but a NYC New Yawka :) :)
I should savor this!!

Hmm, my count up to #160 shows slightly different.
I’ve taken out the couple double votes.
I do NOT include silly additional votes; ie, my mama and
dad included in this vote - sigh
Cruz - 66
Trump -59

One time ping, I took the liberty of setting up a free poll (no ID, no nothing, just vote, see results, exit), a.k.a., slight thread hijack -- but it's possible to see the numbers. When I did a sort on the text buffer to extract the names, it appeared to be about a 50-50 split, along with some here and there for other candidates. This poll has most (if not all) the current candidates, some dropouts, also Joe Biden (who's not in), "other", and "none of the above". Enjoy!

Trump probably has a better chance of winning in the general election. Given his success in negotiating, his wild statements may not be so critical on the ground as it were.
To: Springfield Reformer
Bottom line, Kelo is horrible law. I don't disagree. However, I do believe a reasonable person could support it.
And please note you DID use loaded language in support of your point. "Minimal token amount" etc...
I can easily understand city fathers siding with a proven developer committing to a project that creates numerous jobs over Nell's right to happy taste buds.

You are, of course, correct. This is hardly a "valid" poll of any kind at all.
And though they refuse to admit what you or I have posted to be true, it is and they are just blind to reality; sadly.

Many thanks !
I was unaware of the Franklin quote and it’s meaning. It certainly wasn’t a cogent response to what I had posted.
