Politico noted on Sunday that Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas has solidified his lead in Iowa, according to a CBS Poll. He is favored by 40 percent of likely caucus-goers, with Donald Trump at 31 percent, Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Florida at 12 percent, Dr. Ben Carson at six percent, and everyone else polling at two percent or less. The numbers are part of the reason that conservative pundit and radio talk show host Erik Erickson had announced that Cruz is favored for the Republican nomination, despite the media dustup over whether and when the senator from Texas did or did not favor legalization of illegal aliens.
Donald Trump is still ahead in national polls. However, that lead is essentially meaningless because the primary campaign is a series of statewide contests, starting with Iowa and continuing with New Hampshire and South Carolina. The scenario goes something like this:
Cruz wins in Iowa, deflating Trumpâs balloon considerably. Trump followers start to search for another candidate who still addresses their wrath against how both political parties are treating them. Someone else wins New Hampshire, either Rubio or New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who seems to be rising as of later. Trumpâs collapse becomes precipitous, so Cruz wins South Carolina....

As Spock once said, your logic is impeccable. :)

My dreams have way smaller breaks in continuity.
You are wrong and not very insightful.

I am not sure where I’ve gone wrong. Is Trump for big government? His statements tell us he is. Anyone who has supported TARP, bailouts, Obama’s stimulus, nationalized healthcare and said he was okay with nationalizing banks is obviously someone who is quite receptive to big government solutions.
Saying one of his first actions as President would be to sign an executive order mandating the death penalty for anyone convicted of killing a policeman is someone who has no notion of constitutional constraint and is an authoritarian.
I am correct on both counts. I haven’t been shown anything “insightful” that would indicate otherwise.
Of course he can win the general election. Recent polls show him ahead of Hillary adn Sanders (the latter FWIW.)
I know I saw at least one poll that showed Cruz leading in Nevada.
If you didn’t notice, the media can’t stop talking about Trump. That means HE’s the one they’re picking for us.
BTT
Sorry but Trump supporters are positively immune to facts.
No recitation of his actual positions and past acts matters to them. He’s good at humiliating Jeb Bush (which I must admit that I also enjoy) and likes calling people names so he’s tough and a conservative and he’s just been hiding it for the first 60+years of his life.
Or something.

For years, FR has angrily said that the conservative base should unite around one candidate.
And when it FINALLY starts to happen, and this time around the best conservative candidate, people here are STILL angry.
Who knew.
Not at all!
We just don't demand others confess the faith those positions MUST determine his future actions.
Of course, we'd like to know why he would repudiate all those positions for this candidacy if he intended to govern by them. As it stands, all he would have to do to get them is stay home.
BTTT.
1. He is a principled conservative that has wisely courted the Evangelical and strong-Conservative vote right from the start. As such, he is now standing out as the right candidate to become a real alternative to the far-Left policies of presumptive Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton.
2. Cruz would destroy Hillary Clinton in a Presidential debate in no time flat. In fact, Cruz is such a formidable debater that even the Leftist professors that taught him at Harvard Law School (arguably the most prestigious law school on Earth) highly respect Cruz's debating skills.
3. He is one of the few candidates that has called for a total overhaul of national taxation--in fact he has actually said publicly that he has interest in considering replacing the income tax with FairTax, a change that could literally bring power back to the people in the biggest way since the American Revolution and ignite an economic boom that could literally change the face of the world.
“Opening campaign offices in out-of-the-way places is how state primaries are won. Making fun of it tends to paint you as a snob.”
And posting every such office opening and the like on FR borders on insanity. Continuously posting such trivial nonsense here actually trivializes Cruz’s importance and does him no favors on FR; all it does is show how obsessive a few of Cruz’s supporters are here.
Every straw poll here shows the majority support Cruz, therefore news on the Cruz campaign is popular. Sorry if that causes you some heartburn.

You mean like the overwhelming Cruz numbers in the straw “polls” you conduct like this one:

Just ask Presidents Huckabee and Santorum how “vital” Iowa is to winning the Presidency.
Yes, that’s what I was referring to.
Or Presidents Carter and Obama...
my bad........ it just seems the Trump threads get all the action..... add one vote for Trump, I just don’t see how Cruz can win the general election
Cruz will win the same way he is winning Iowa. He has workers right now in most counties in every state and our island possessions.
Now, for a number of years we have been wanting a true conservative to run and now we have one but some people here are saying he cannot win because he is too conservative. That is incorrect - I repeat, he wins due to his excellent plan already in existence to cover all the states with his workers in almost every county.
Independents will vote for Cruz and he will win if conservatives vote for him.
