For political veterans, much of what we're starting to hear about Ted Cruz has an eerily familiar ring. Too extreme. Unelectable. Scares people. A radical, not a conservative.
The American people will hear a lot about Cruz's extremism in the year ahead, just as they were told about Reaganâs. It may cause them to hesitate before supporting him. But over the course of the campaign, they'll be able to make that determination for themselves. In fact, Ted Cruz represents the mainstream of conservative thought in this country, just as Reagan did twoscore years ago. Reagan's victory vindicated everything we'd been saying for twenty years. A Cruz win next year would do so again.
Precisely 36 years ago, Reagan was on his way to the Republican nomination. George Will and the church ladies of the party were concerned, even trying to lure former President Ford into the race. Reagan was just too conservative to get elected. A few years earlier, Will had described Reagan's support as "kamikaze conservatives who thought the 1964 Goldwater campaign was jolly fun." The reasonable, establishment Republicans settled on Bush 1 as their candidate, and it was game on. Marco Rubio is, or will be, their choice this time. Same song, same singers....

Yeah..is that why Cruz is shooting up the polls like a rocket and is doing much better against Hilary Clinton than RINO Trump?
“RINO Trump, the new GOPe spokesperson”
Really? The eGOP has target Trump and you claim they love him??
Do why is Cruz doing a heck of a lot better again Hilary Clinton than Trump is?
I believe that Cruz is brilliant. But this election is crucial, and my question is: Who can Win?
It is essential that we win this election, and winning is far more important than retaining every shred of our political/philosophical ‘purity’.
We have two people who *might* be able to beat Clinton, and I believe that one of them will be our nominee.
At that point, we’ll all have to get together; or retreat into ‘purity’, and watch as our grandkids grow up with nothing to look forward to.

I won’t for a ticket with trump in it.
Agreed. Trump and Cruz. Cruz and Trump. Either one.
That’s fine. It’s your decision, friend. We all have to do what we believe is right.
Oh goodie, a repeat of 2008 and 2012. We are doomed.
You got that right.
Cool. You support a dude who loses just a little less to Hillary than Trump. Sounds like we are both winners. /sarc
I wouldn’t exactly call 14% to 41% a rocket. :-)
I think that limits him.
OTOH, Reagan was well-liked by most who heard him speak and it aided him greatly.
Reagan and Cruz are not alike. Reagan was not a half term Senator.
Amazing how many good conservatives here talk down the guy who is, far and away, the best conservative in the race.
How did he win a come-from-behind election and claw his way to first and second in current polls?
Folks like Mariner are Obamabots, never mind them.
I won’t for hitlery, but I won’t vote for her ideological twin all dressed up in a conservative skirt.
If it’s hitlery vs. trump, we’re finished as a country. So, as a protest to the coming darkess, I’ll vote 3rd party.
