The irony of Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Tex.) is that he claims to be the champion of outsiders, yet he is as conventional a politician as you will find. For starters, hes got two Ivy League degrees and worked outside government (Senate, Texas solicitor general, Bush 43 staffer, court clerk) for a fraction of his adult life (less than 30 percent or five of 18 years).
He is as much a cause of partisan gridlock and dysfunction as anyone, taking joy in riling up the base and blaming liberal elites, fanning the flames of anti-immigrant sentiment (both his own determination to label any bill upsetting talk radio hysterics amnesty and in fawning over Donald Trump). Alabama Gov. George Wallace was playing much the same game in the 1960s.
But Cruzs most insider-like quality is the art of saying whatever is needed to get GOP primary voters support. He is going to vie for libertarians votes. But he has also presented himself as Reaganesque on foreign policy. The two, of course, are widely different propositions....

The fact he went to an Ivy League school and came out relatively untarnished is impressive and unusual in my book.
He wants to attract Trump voters, who pine for the moguls anti-immigration and anti-free-trade policies. Yet Cruz supports a large increase in H-1B visas. He was for free trade before he was against it.
In a field where all other Republican candidates are saying "better lives through better government done my way," Cruz is the only one who is basically proposing "better lives through less government."
I will only vote for the candidate whose basic guiding principle is to dismantle and eradicate unconstitutional government. The answers to our problems lie in the Constitution; the Constitution has the recipe for the return to American greatness where moral prosperity thrives. Cruz is the only Republican in the race who respects that truth.
The fact that he worked his way through is good. That he started with the constitution studies and teaching as a teenager totally impressive.
Trump has been growing on me though. Lovely choice.
If Jennifer Rubin doesn’t like him, how bad could he be?
Typical left wing lies. The entire article is crap.
Your tagline is just about the stupidest thing I’ve ever seen on FR.
Definitely NOT the sign of an insider.
They are scared of Cruz. Good.
This thing is a demonrat. Maybe we should ignore her game of pretending to be a Republican and baiting the GOP into loserville with her.
