speak American is speaking in American English and respecting American culture. It is not speaking in one of the gutter dialects of Spanish.
Whatever CNN
Never mind that in my city the election ballots are in 6 different languages (which is damn important when it comes to specificity of ballot initiative verbiage).
Never mind that the AM radio band (and increasing the FM band) are becoming a sea of non-english stations.
Never mind that the Metro buses include recorded messages in spanish to indicate which stop is the Social Security office.
Nope, nothing to see here, move along.
Kind of disappointing, since Mark Steyn had said he was so different in Spanish than in English.
Dr. Jebi and Senor Heb.
Even the Frogs have a national language.
Each Single one of us has that story of "Grandmother Came from Old Country and Commanded that her Kids only "Sprechen Il Inglés" to be Americans"
We could talk for 10 Hours About that.
But I am going to try and do it in 9.
Sarah Palin's mother (Sally Sheigam) was of Lithuanian Jewish heritage and so were both of her mothers parents (Louise Sheigam and Shmuel Sheigam). Her maternal grandfather, Schmuel Sheigam, was a Lithuanian Jew born in 1912 in Vilkaviskis, Lithuania, 91.2 miles west of Vilnius. The Sheigam family immigrated to America, via Hamburg, Germany in 1915 because of WWI. The grandmother was was originally named Gower. Her father Chuck Heath can be considered of Jewish blood because it is believed his mother, Beatrice Coleman, was of Jewish decent. Further information on Governor Palin's ancestors can easily be found in the vital records in the Lithuanian State Historical Archives in Vilnius.
http://www.archyvai.lt/ The Archives holds birth, marriage, divorce, and death records for the Lithuanian Jewish community from 1851 until 1915 when the Jews were required to leave the country because of World War I. They are in 18th Century Cyrillic script and Yiddish Many of these records include the mother's maiden name and town of registration.
At Ellis Island Immigration Center, the name was entered as Sheeran, a standard practice of the time when immigration officers were unable to understand non-English speaking immigrants. Sheeran is a common Irish name but members of the Sheigam family are buried in the Jewish cemetery at Budezeriai near Vilkaviskis:in Lithuania.

Chicken Noodle News!!
I have good information that CNN has signed Sarah Palin on as a political consultant for the 2016 Elections. This will be a huge coup for Sarah against Fox. I know Sarah will be a strong Conservative to set the message straight. CNN’s viewers won’t know what hit them. They may even start speaking American.
I’m pretty sure Yeb is as exciting in Mexican as he is in American.
Not a language crisis, but a cultural crisis. As in, political culture.Mexico is, and for a very long time has been, a good place to be from. The question is, Why is that? Is there something magic about the Rio Grande, that if you cross it to the north of it suddenly the streets are paved with gold, whereas just to the south the air is different and life is harder? Compared to the US, Mexico has terrible politics. So bad that even LBJ, Carter, Clinton, and Obama have not (yet) managed to degrade our economy to the level of Mexico.
And it is politics that Palin discussed when she critiqued JEBs Spanish lingo. There are many dozens of languages in the world, and most of them undoubtedly have some immigrants here. Why the Spanish? Because JEB was talking to people who mostly would not be here if our law had been respected. He promotes illegal action.
And some of us are glad Trump is exposing JEBs politics for the extremism that it is. And yes, I apply that label to the author of this article as well.
Multiple languages is one of the surest sources of national fracture. We can thank previous generations’ concerns for having as linguistically unified a country as we now have.
I’m quickly getting to be one of the few people at work who grew up speaking English.
I’m tired of being treated like a freak because of that.
To ‘speak American’ is speaking in American English and respecting American culture. It is not speaking in one of the other gutter dialects of the world, including Esperanto.
It seems to me that so far, nobody commenting on this thread has actually read the entire article. At least, their comments indicate such.
So for the record, here’s the main point:
English is now the world-dominant language. The competitors aren’t even close. Therefore, the idea that English is somehow under threat in the USA is very far-fetched, to say the least.
