Donald Trump reiterated calls to erect a wall on the border between Mexico and the United States during a visit to the border city of Laredo, Texas, on Thursday.
"In certain sections you have to have a wall, absolutely," Trump said, speaking to the press shortly after touring the border crossing. "The wall will save you a tremendous amount of money."
The comments came during a fly in visit to the city to discuss plans for increasing border security. Just one month ago, during his campaign launch, Trump said one of the priorities of his presidency would be to build a wall between Mexico and the U.S.
His anti-immigration stance has ignited outrage, and Trump has come under fire from Latino groups for disparaging comments made about Mexicans.
"When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best," Trump said during his campaign announcement, which devolved into an off-script rant. "They’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists."
The population of Laredo, Texas, is 250,000, and 95.6% of those residents are Hispanic or Latino. Much of the city's economy is based on cross-border trade. Trump weighed in on this on Thursday, saying the prosperity that Laredo sees as the largest border crossing for goods traded between the United States and Mexico is due to Mexico.
"A lot of what's happening here is because Mexico is doing so well," said Trump. "I don’t know if that's good for the United States."
Trump has already received pushback from residents ahead of his arrival, and a group gathered to protest against his visit when he arrived at Laredo International Airport on Thursday, in a 757 with his name emblazoned on its side....

Of course it’s a good idea as part of a “comprehensive border security package”. Along with the wall we need concertina wire, cameras, drones, more border patrol agents manning the border, the wall, the cameras, and the drones. Oh, and we need a little political will to actualy secure the border while we’re at it, some more prisons and prison guards to house the repeat offenders and the drug dealers.

Why we love Trump?
It’s because for the last 6 years we’ve been begging the Republicans to do something. Anything. At first they said they couldn’t do anything because they didn’t have the Presidency, House or Senate. Then they said they couldn’t do anything because Harry Reid was blocking everything in the Senate. Then they said they couldn’t do anything until the 2016 elections because Obama would veto. Now they are saying they won’t be able to do anything even with a Republican President because too many Senate seats are up for grabs in 2018.
On and on and on and on with the excuses of why they can’t do anything. Now comes Trump. Who has no power at all but the bully pulpit. He’s been on the scene two months. But we’ve already seen what he’s done and he isn’t even in the White House yet. Thanks to Donald Trump, they are holding hearings on the hill focusing on the deaths of Americans by illegals. Thanks to Trump, many low information voters in this country who had never heard of sanctuary cities, or didn’t even believe they existed when they did hear about it.
This is all happening thanks to one man, Donald Trump.
Trump isn’t making excuses. He’s getting things done.
That’s why we love him.
