TPA, or similar a law, has existed for decades. The recent vote in the U.S. Senate was a renewal of the TPA, and Senator Ted Cruz, perhaps the foremost constitutional conservative in the Senate, supported it because it created a process in which the president could be held accountable. TPP was never voted on in the Senate or the House, and its language has not even been finalized.
My objection, at this point, to the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) is that it is secret, and only members of congress are permitted to read it. Ted Cruz has read it, and has issues not only with the secrecy, but on other points that he intends to address in the Senate. He especially wants to insist that any trade agreement with any of our Pacific partners under the TPP will get an up or down vote in congress within 60 days.
Trade in the Pacific has become crucial, because the un-named elephant in the room is communist China, who wants to dominate the region. Some sort of TPP must be passed; there is more than free trade at stake here, national security is tied to this....

Want to bet this will never happen?
No more support for RINO’s ever again!!!!!
“All these wonderful trade agreements have done is help us lose hundreds of thousands of manufacturing jobs. The furniture, textile, and so many others are all gone now.”
Which have lowered the cost and increased the standard of living for the vast majority of Americans. Free trade is the pathway to prosperity not protectionism and trade barriers
Thanks for posting this. Cruz’s position on these things does increase my interest in his potential.
Which is why we have to change our own mindset and stop doing that.
The one thing I noticed about Cruz, in the rhetoric about where he has stood or will stand, is he's laid low until he noted ‘the confusion of the people’ was escalating and getting out of hand...just as it showed right here on FR.
I know how this man works because I've watched him long before he announced....frequently I might add. As much, those who are trying to circumvent his run and destroy him.
If Freepers continue to take the bait they're fed...and the posters who enjoy watching the fiasco...then we'll end up with Jeb Bush Just as we did Romney.
I said I would give Cruz 'lots" of room because I made a point to know where he stands and about before his run. I am in till the end because I don;t trust the media reports nor the jabs and interference of those who oppose him.
When it became an issue of TTP And TPA I checked it out until I was satisfied "why" Cruz stood where he did and the fact he hadn't taken a stand as well.
I will continue to support Cruz...
You forget that we are talking about Obama here.
Not really, if you off shore a factory you lower your operating costs by using cheap labor. The materials and energy costs may even increase as does shipping back to the USA.
Ok most factories are highly automated even the ones in the third world, on average labor costs 5-7% per unit retail price. In the USA the labor costs would be more like 9-12%. So you save about 5%. Does the consumer get that 5%? If so what was the motivation of moving their factory over seas? Altruism or the bottom line? The consumer gets no benefit at all IMO.
That’s not the same thing as secret laws being passed.I’m surprised that that you would try to offer that comparison.
You’re steering us into a Hillary vs. Jeb race. I’ll be sure to laugh at you as I sit on the beach in a land far away drinking a tall drink and reading about the ever-declining economy and culture.
“In your bizarro world, sane, rational, well informed people like 2ndDiVision should quit and let the wild eyed, irrational, crazy Ted Cruz haters take over Freerepublic? Not gonna happen. Here is an idea, why don’t YOU quit for a change? “
Posting here, 24/7/365 is NOT sane or rational.
And there are no wild eyed, irrational, crazy Ted Cruz haters that will take over Freerepublic, either.
The 2016 is not a kiddie video game.
Try discussing the substance of the issue, not each other.
I agree. If we ever do another trade agreement it should not be one negotiated in secret by Obama. I think Cruz is wrong all the way around on this issue. There is no reason a deal can’t wait until we have a president who is pro-America.
What secret trade laws have been passed. TPA IS NOT secret. It’s essentially the same TPA that we had when Bush was president. Now TPP is another matter altogether. Last time I checked TPP hasn’t even come up before congress for a vote yet. Ted Cruz has already made eat his strong objections to certain parts of TPP.
Give it up. Nobody’s buying it. The SS Cruz is taking on water. But cheer up. After the presidential election Ted will still have his Senate seat. Its not like he will have to live off Heidi’s six figure income or anything.
You’re re-posting these comments on numerous threads just shows you might have an agenda of your own...???
Walker endorsed this, I guess he’s off the list, too
You mean like the way you stutter post on threads. Two times like we can’t see it the first time. :-)
I was as stupid about international trade under Bush as I am now.
Yes, he opposed the Freedom Act as it was written...or do you simply not pay attention?
Then tell me who is better. Cruz isn’t weak on immigration unless you oppose the Visa Program. And, I know you are not in his camp when you keep talking about TPP, when he voted FOR TPA. Big difference.
These would be significant issues if he was on the wrong side...but he is not. His history is solid too. Good luck finding someone better.
God bless you and Thank you, Vet.
Please do not get discouraged.
