Ted Cruz is right on the trade deal
The Examiner ^ | June 13, 2015 | J. Maropoulakis Denney

Posted on 06/13/2015 12:40:40 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

TPA, or similar a law, has existed for decades. The recent vote in the U.S. Senate was a renewal of the TPA, and Senator Ted Cruz, perhaps the foremost constitutional conservative in the Senate, supported it because it created a process in which the president could be held accountable. TPP was never voted on in the Senate or the House, and its language has not even been finalized.

My objection, at this point, to the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) is that it is secret, and only members of congress are permitted to read it. Ted Cruz has read it, and has issues not only with the secrecy, but on other points that he intends to address in the Senate. He especially wants to insist that any trade agreement with any of our Pacific partners under the TPP will get an up or down vote in congress within 60 days.

Trade in the Pacific has become crucial, because the un-named elephant in the room is communist China, who wants to dominate the region. Some sort of TPP must be passed; there is more than free trade at stake here, national security is tied to this....

Has anyone heard that the House passed 300 to 121 votes to remove “country of origin” on products and food labels?

caww, there are a few FR who “eat” any politician they do not know or understand. It’s sad, because this carries over to national elections where Republican candidates “really chew” on their Republican opponents. That is the reason we get “moderate” (socialist lite) Republican candidates for the House, Senate and President. I am to blame too, when it comes to mclame, Romney, dole and bush 3). (It’s my turn to be president).

Lol, you hit the nail on the head. Cruz deserves excoriation here, these apologists are being loathesome and quite frankly hurting their own cause.

No. I do not support those who support illegal immigration. In fact if you think about it Cruz, being wimpy about retaining illegals supports illegal immigration as well as huge, destructive increases illegal immigration.

Let’s. see. Who else thinks like that?

Huh?
In your bizarro world, sane, rational, well informed people like 2ndDiVision should quit and let the wild eyed, irrational, crazy Ted Cruz haters take over Freerepublic? Not gonna happen. Here is an idea, why don't YOU quit for a change?

Come on, are you really feeding me that garbage? You are right...there is no obligation to tell who you support.

But, wouldn’t be right to say that if we have about a year and a half to go, that it is too early to write off someone like Cruz because you disagree with a vote?

I am just asking who these people support. They know who they like...they are just too afraid to answer. I make no bones about the fact that I like Cruz. Don’t troll a post and then not answer when challenged.

First, has this writer read it?

Second, we don’t need trade deals we need to take the govt foot off the neck of US businesses. That will make us more competitive and bring in more revenue to the govt.

How has Cruz been wimpy on immigration. You made the claim, now back it up.

You obviously don’t support Cruz, and few if any other candidates running have been more solid on illegal immigration, which leads me to believe you support Amnesty.

No surprise there.

I am not Cruz hater. Just not a Cruz apologist. I might vote for him but he needs a come to Jesus moment on trade and immigration, especially H-1b. Othrwise he will be gone before the VA primary.

If I am going to go establishment (forced to again) there are many other candidates that are better.

Cruz is establishment, sorry he is.

He wants to increase the H-1b quota 500%. That is pretty bad....

It’s not just disagreeing on ONE vote. Tpa and H1B1 are big deals and its disingenuous to discount it as a mere vote. Also, the Freedom Act is equally appalling.

Yes, Reagan was dealing with a much different America and a much different world. The technology was far less advanced in the ‘80’s, and the NWO was just a gleam in GHWB’s eyes.

Absolutely, RWR would be appalled at what we have today. Or rather, what we DON’T have.

To compare the world during the Reagan era to today’s world is comparing apples and oranges.

If its secret, I’m against it. And I don’t believe anything that anyone says about it. If I can’t see it. There must be a reason that I would not like. Secret laws are an east block thing. They have no place in America. Read The Trial.

I'm embarrassed to refer anyone to FR with the way people are acting on here toward Cruz...

That statement is the kind of thing I'm talking about, for heaven's sake. We were his original supporters. We were the ones who gave those small checks that added up to get his campaign started. We're pointing out how he's losing our support. And you're handing us that "we know what's best for you" rhetoric.

Cruz is now telling us something Jeff Sessions and Mike Lee don't support, but Obama, Boehner, and McConnell do is good for us. Can't you at least try to understand our frustration?

I have agreed with Ted on everything up to now and I admit to not understanding trade deals. I will trust him on this even though I seem to agree with Sessions too. I will be open minded and reading and listening. Cruz has more info than I do about this.

Ted Cruz is by far the smartest, the most principled, the most honest and most conservative candidate we have run for president for either party in decades. Not only will he win the Republican nomination, he will CRUSH the super corrupt Hilary Clinton in a general election matchup. And you can take that to the bank.

Don’t troll a post and then not answer when challenged.

Can you folks have a discussion without resorting to such childish name calling? The answer seems to be no.

I don't tell who I support because I haven't decided on anyone. I was very impressed with Cruz until this fast track and TPP issue came along, and he remains dodgy on immigration. Still haven't written him off, but am less impressed. His weakness on immigration plus this adds up to a significant negative.

Eighteen months to decide and there might not be a good choice. The GOPe and big donors might have them all under their sway. We'll just have to wait and see what develops.
