Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee wants Rand Paul to make a choice: Protest the Patriot Act either on the Senate floor or on the campaign trail.
He joined a chorus of Republican presidential hopefuls weighing in on the Kentucky Republican senator's protest of the Patriot Act, key provisions of which lapsed Sunday.
Paul claimed credit for blocking parts of the renewal of the controversial law, and his protests included an 11-hour speech on the eve of the chamber's Memorial Day break, as well as objections to several short-term extensions of the Act.
In response to a question about Paul, Huckabee said on Fox News Monday morning that 2016 contenders must "decide what they want to be when they grow up."
"If you want to be a governor, be a governor. If you want to be a senator, be a senator," Huckabee said. "If you want to be president, then let go of what you're doing, because it's a full time pursuit to run for the presidency."(continued)

It's a full time pursuit to protect the Constitutional rights of American citizens. Or didn't you know that?
I find it humorous that all these politicians think that keeping a campaign promise is a dirty trick.
How bout you, preacher man...
“If you want to be a governor, be a governor. If you want to be a senator, be a senator,” Huckabee said. “If you want to be president, then let go of what you’re doing, because it’s a full time pursuit to run for the presidency.”
Says the man who can’t walk and chew gum at the same time.
What is it about these so-called Conservatives who do not understand that the oath that they take requires follow through? Paul is doing his job, you idiot!
I do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me God.
Maurice Clemmons endorses Huckster from his shanty in Hell.
I like Huckabee. I don’t like Rand Paul. But I think this is not a great argument. Too many people run while holding another office. So what.
Again, don’t like Rand Paul at all. I will not vote for him no matter what.
“Paul never made any secret about how he feels about this subject, so he is only following thru on what he has always said he would do.”
That’s because he is a Libertarian, just like his old man, hiding under the guise of being a Republican. Rand Paul is the biggest of political hypocrites, denying what he truly is, a Libertarian at heart.
I agree a lot of other pol’s run for one office, while holding a different offce ... and it bugs me to no end that this happens.
It would particularly annoy me if said pol was from my state and they were not doing the business of my state. Also bugs the snot out of me when pols use state resources to travel around campaigning. Oh I know they say they are there on other matters ... but really? Sure.
Re Huckabee, not a big fan ... but at least he quit FNC prior to announcing. Re Rand ... for every 10 things he spouts off about ... I might agree w one of his ideas. I cannot imagine a scenario where I will have to vote for Rand ... praise be ... but if Rand was the nominee ... he would have to win w/ o my vote.
I think RP is even crazier than his pop ... which is to say ... the Paul family is whackadoodle.
and scary
bordering on evil
and really, really weird
So yeah ... blow me over with a feather ... I agree w the Huckster.
1. Huckabee offered no “pardon” to Maurice Clemmons.
For the crimes of theft and burglary, Maurice Clemmons at the age of 16 was sentenced to 108 years. In all likelihood, had the same crimes been committed by a white youth from a middle class family, he would’ve received 20 years and been out on probation in under ten. What Governor Huckabee did do was reduce the 108 years to a sentence of 47 years. Shortly thereafter—not simultaneously—Clemmons met the qualifications for parole, and the parole board allowed him to go free, but kept him on probation.
2. Huckabee was not an activist in the Clemmons parole.
Some have claimed that Huckabee sought and pressured the parole board to intercede in the Clemmons case. This is blatantly false. The truth is that the parole board requested the Governor to consider the sentence reduction, as did the presiding judge. Governor Huckabee sought the input from the Attorney General and the prosecutors in the case. Both declined to weigh in. The judge and parole board were both unanimous in the decision to grant parole.
3. Huckabee had nothing to do with Clemmons release.
Following the short period of time that Clemmons had been paroled, he violated his parole by committing another minor offense. As is the case in all probation issues, that violation brought him back to prison to serve time for his crimes. Once back in prison, the Governor ceased to play any role. His sentence was back in effect. Prosecutorial malfeasance and a judge’s lack of action caused Clemmons’ second release from the Arkansas prison system.
If Governor Huckabee’s sentence reduction allowed Clemmons any opportunity to do crime it was to violate his parole. Once violated however, Clemmons was back into the digestive track of the Arkansas justice system.
The major scandal here is why none of the supporters of the candidate who finished third in the 2004 primaries have not focused one ounce of attention on the two judges that allowed Clemmons to go free following the rape of a child, who was a female relative, some nine years after the Arkansas prosecutors dropped the ball.
Huckabee was in essence reducing a sentence for petty theft from 108 to 47 years for a black kid. White kids would’ve gotten far more preferential treatment in the courts.

Tell us more about how Paul is "doing his job" when he starts missing numerous Senate votes because he's in another state trying to run for President while seeking re-election to the Senate simultaneously.
Thanks Donna, good to know.
Huckabee is here to help the GOPe get their man Bush through.
His attack on Paul over currently holding office would seem to have application to other candidates like Ted Cruz or even Scott Walker.
Huckabee sounds like an attack dog for the GOPe to knock down candidates that stand in Bush’s way.
Just so happens Jeb doesn’t hold a public office now.
Pure horse feces.
