Cataclysm for the GOP

Erick Erickson, the man described by The Atlantic as the Most Powerful Conservative in America, swung his verbal hammer on the Republican Party’s abandonment of the pro-life movement.  The blow hit directly on the fissure separating the party’s money and influence-peddlers from its principled core.  This single statement “[maybe] it is time for a third party to give the GOP competition” marks a cataclysmic shift in RedState.com, a media site dedicated to Republican principles, whose own posting rules prohibit its readers from posting the very statement Erickson made on its front page.

6. It is forbidden to promote or give any kind of support for parties other than the Republican Party, or candidates running against Republican primary, caucus, and/or convention nominees. Exceptions to this rule are granted when announced prominently on the front page of the site.
History hangs its arc on human issues, not organizations.  Most people except history buffs and academics, haven’t heard much about the Whig party.  It’s because the Whig party is no more, and hasn’t been since 1856.  The issue of slavery faded them into irrelevance.

At our Republic’s founding, slavery was the major issue dividing America.  One party supported it:  the Democrats.  The other party, the Whigs, was split between abolitionists and those who used abolition as a lever for their own agendas.  Ultimately, Henry Clay’s compromise of 1850, where he collaborated with Democrat Stephen Douglas to preserve slavery in the south while admitting free states (and the horrible Missouri compromise) in the west, destroyed the Whig party.  There was no equivocating on an issue so dividing the American people, and any organization that tried to walk the razor line would be destroyed.

So be it, and so we have the arc of history swinging against the GOP, whose own birth came at the death knell of the Whigs, because the Republicans stood for abolition.  Now, with abortion being the chief issue of national division, the Democrats stand for unlimited abortion, anytime, for anyone, and the GOP is split between pro-life and those who use pro-life as a lever for their own agendas.  Politicians like Rep Renee Ellmers (R-NC) are trying to walk a razor line, and as a result, the GOP itself may find itself irrelevant.

Erick continued, summing up RedState’s stance:

In short, the pro-life movement must stop being the whores of the GOP. The Republican Leadership knows the pro-life movement is in its pocket. They have nowhere else to go. They have no one else to vote for. As much as Republicans look at black voters and tut-tut that they are being taken advantage of by a Democratic Party that knows black voters will not go anywhere, the Republicans are doing precisely the same to pro-life voters.

We will remain conservative in the primary, but now we must say we will generally be Republican in the general. There must come a time, however, when we are willing to blow up a Republican in a general election and make an example of them for betraying our first principles.

That time is now.

The issue of abortion will be settled in America.  God hates abortion with a zeal beyond human expression, and either America will purge the most heinous scourge since slavery from its shores, or we will face God’s judgment.  Whether you believe in the God who will execute judgment is irrelevant.  Whether you are a Democrat or Republican is irrelevant.  I have, in the past, sided with the GOP, since its principles support life and oppose abortion, but in practical terms, those principles are meaningless.

If the Republican Party wishes to remain relevant in history, and not become like the Whigs, it will have to align itself with its own stated principles, and like the Whigs, expel those who don’t stand with them.  The Whigs threw a sitting president, John Tyler, from their own party.  It didn’t save them, but at least they showed it can be done.  The Congressional Republican Caucus can send a message by expelling Renee Ellmers.  If they do this, at least we’d know they care about the coming cataclysm.

As Erick said, the “pro-life cause must stop acting like the Republican Party’s whore and must, instead, show New Testament grace to the world and Old Testament vengeance to politicians.”

Vengeance is Mine, and recompense; Their foot shall slip in due time; For the day of their calamity is at hand, And the things to come hasten upon them.’ Deuteronomy 32:35
Republicans, take heed, because the day of your calamity may be at hand.

The RINO oligarchs are outnumbered. It’s time that we capitalized on it.

It is beyond high time for the GOPe to go the way of the Whigs!

Was it really a surprise that GOP women bolted over a provision to mandate that women produce a police report of rape before obtaining an abortion? That would have been a bonanza for the Dems in 2016 House/Senate races.

With respect to social issues the GOPe is choosing to either adopt the progressive position or ignore the issue. Witness:

Gay marriage.
Abortion.
Immigration.

Soon the Chamber of Commerce will have them siding with the Dems on gun control.

We are under judgment now. Look around. Our once great and blessed country is being destroyed as the majority watch and cling to their vanity, envy, money grubbing, and sodomy.

A strong delusion is upon most people.

The rape exception does nothing to protect the baby. In fact it executes the child for the sins of the father.
Abortion exception for rape is based on the identical premise of a woman’s right to continue a pregnancy as her personal prerogative. Under this rubric, merely the filing of a charge of rape even without identifying the perpetrator is sufficient grounds to permit the woman to end the life of the baby growing inside her. This is no more grounds than a bad hair day.
Let the party of infanticide make whatever they wish of it. Murder is murder and the murder of the most innocent and dependent among us is execrable, the vilest of the vile, whatever the justification.

IMHO, the abortion issue is lost, for at least a generation. Maybe the next generation will seek to secure the right to life for their descendants.

We’ve fallen so far down the slippery slope that now we’re fighting against euthanasia, death panels, and “duty to die.”

I think judgement is done. We are probably in the sentencing phase.

"So be it, and so we have the arc of history swinging against the GOP, whose own birth came at the death knell of the Whigs, because the Republicans stood for abolition."

This is a pernicious historical inaccuracy - a partial truth. I commend to all Freepers to familiarize themselves with the Corwin Amendment - the original 13th Amendment, proposed by Rep. Thomas Corwin, Ohio Republican, passed and confirmed by the House and Senate with Republican and Democrat votes, and ratified by a few States before hostilities engineered by President Lincoln broke out, thus shelving the Amendment which would have acknowledged and confirmed in perpetuity slavery in the States that permitted it.

These same GOPe women are declaring to the nation that a woman cannot decide whether or not she was raped for five (5) months so go ahead and kill that baby that she chose not to do for the previous four (4) months!

We no longer are the R party! We have become the Dhim II party! Our platforms and principles are so close there really isn't any discernible difference.

When obama turned against Israel that brought down the final verdict of guilty. I think the sentencing phase is correct and it won’t be pretty for us.
