Unlike many of his Democratic colleagues running in competitive Senate races, Michigan Rep. Gary Peters has touted his support for environmentalist policies on the campaign trail, including speaking about global warming at the left-wing Netroots Nation conference and boasting on his website about his vote for a cap-and-trade bill.
The move is certainly helping in one respect, as liberal billionaire Tom Steyer and top green groups spent millions on television ads attacking his Republican opponent, former Michigan Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land, on environmental topics.
But Peters' investments in the energy sector are coming under increasing scrutiny, especially after it was shown that he owns $20,000 in a company that manufacturers petroleum coke, or pet coke, after Peters' allies ran ads, judged by fact-checkers as far fetched, tying Land to the substance, which is controversial in Detroit.

You see, petroleum coke is evil.
They don’t know what it is, but they know its evil.
Its evil for republicans but not for democrats running for office.
It is made at refineries, the leftovers of crude oil after the more valuable products have been removed.
You would have thought they would have found a way to work “big oil” into that demonization. The company is French Total.
I’ve worked in several coke units over the years. I’m assuming the average Dem voter doesn’t know what it is. But its evil.
That would be “Alon”, sir!
And yes, pet-coke is left-overs from refining but is also an ingredient in commercial “charcoal” like Kingsford briquets.
Thanks again to the great entrepreneurs of the the early 1900’s such as Messrs, Firestone, Kingsford and Ford. My BBQ is infinitely better because of them!
According to the article, Peters owns shares in Total Petrochemicals, the French companys U.S. subsidiary. There are many other refineries that produce Petroleum Coke. I used to work for a company that owned one of the larger process designs that was commonly used.
I never heard before it was used in commercial charcoal.
Ya think it was just a coincidence that Harry Reid and the rest of the Democrat party started demonizing the Koch brothers last year?
That brings to mind George "the midget" Stephanopolous blind siding Romney during the 2012 debates with his out of the blue question on contraception, which has NEVER been a topic of controversy, let alone conversation since the 1970's......
Then all of a sudden the democrat party turned that into a major talking point before the election..............
I personally think the democrats are far more desperate than they or the media are letting on. They’re pimping all their big issues all at once and stirring up the crowds but I don’t think it will help them almost 2 months from now.
I'll say.
I hope you're right but all my high expectations during the last election fell by the way side.........
He is also anti-hunting and anti-gun. He is a far left moonbat. Gorebull warming, pro-abortion, pro-queer agenda, owned by the communist unions.
