Conservatives are literally praying that the Texas senator will be the 2016 nominee. The rest of the Republican Party isn't so sure.
FORT WORTH, TexasAfter finishing his speech, Ted Cruz announced he would take questions from the audience. But instead of asking him anything, they just wanted to tell the Republican senator how great he was.
"When I look at you, I can imagine you would be just like one of the founding fathers of this country," one woman said from the microphone stand in the middle of the hotel ballroom.
"Honor to you, Ted Cruz," said the next. "We would like to see you in the White House in 2016!" The crowdabout 300 conservative activists attending this weekend's RedState Gatheringerupted in cheers.
At meetings like this one, both in his home state of Texas and across the country, Cruz is a bona-fide rock star. "It's like all the Beatles in one person," gushed the Texas gathering's emcee, Erick Erickson, editor-in-chief of the widely read RedState, who introduced Cruz by hailing him as "the leader of the conservative movement in the United States."
Since joining the Senate last year, Cruz has managed to unite a divided Washington against him by infuriating Republicans and Democrats alike. He was blamed for last fall's government shutdown and last week resumed his inflammatory tactics, successfully urging House Republicans to reject proposed border legislation. The sharply conservative bill that passed the House in lieu of the original would rescind the temporary amnesty granted by President Obama to some young undocumented immigrants.
These antics have made Cruz a hero to the hard right, which thrills to his disruption of the GOP establishment. He has spawned a legion of imitators, such as John Ratcliffe, who became one of the few candidates to oust a Republican incumbent....

Definitely want Cruz as the guy
Please, God.
Go Ted Cruz!
Ted Cruz/Ben Carlson
Nothing else!
Cruz serves the U.S best as a Senator. He ought to stay there for a while until he ‘ages’ a bit.
I think Cruz is the next president unless there are enough fools who won’t vote based on the eligibility issue and that is foolish.
The demonrats have poisoned that issue. I think the founders intent was that the president should be an American who does not have an allegiance to another nation. That argument can be made about The Obamanation of Desolation but not about Ted Cruz.
I do agree the issue needs to be clarified in law
I’d like to see Senator Cruz as president. If I were him I rub the presses noses in it a bit and ask Sarah Palin to be my press secretary. Let all the Misogynist press corpse (Miss spelt on purpose)that have ridicule her have to deal with her at press conferences.
I can’t vote because I live on Guam but it doesn’t mean I don’t care
Guam? Man, I sure hope it doesn’t tip over.
/sarcasm
He’ll serve better as President. The Senate won’t age him, it will corrupt him.
“Honor to you, Ted Cruz,” said the next. “We would like to see you in the White House in 2016!”
I can stand with that statement!!!
Go Ted Go, you got my vote!!!
Id vote for Ted!!!
He won’t win. He’s no Ronald Reagan (Newts the closest but too much ego).
He’s got no success record, no executive managerial style record and the best things about him are all platitudes. — AND WE ALREADY HAD/HAVE ONE OF THEM.
Let him run for Governor of Texas then.
I see on Facebook that Cruz is at the Iowa State Fair.
Not just for a speech and photo-op, he is actually enjoying the state fair all day. lol. he just got finished posting about the giant cow statue made of butter,
There won’t be an open TX Gubernatorial race until 2022 or 2026. His expertise is federal politics, and the Presidency is where he is needed, and where he is needed now.
You sound like the GOPe tradition of “it is not your turn yet”. If we keep running moderates, it has to work eventually right?
I support Cruz for president, vote for someone else if you want... Your analysis is way wrong.
Perry won the general election in 2010 so in 2017 there should be a new election for governor.
Texas governor has no term limitations — who cares about open primaries.
We know Perry is going to run for Pres, and frankly would be a better choice than Cruz at this point
This isn’t an argument over who I want to vote for, I’m just telling you the Political cemetery is packed with Senator-Presidential contenders.
If he wanted to be a serious Presidential contender he would resign his seat and spend the next 2 years building his political machine.
The crowd expressed its admiration for Cruz.... How does that differ from the fainting fools and groupies who admire Obama? Cruz is smarter, more capable, and better than Obama in every way. He might be what we need to clean up Obama’s horrible mess, and he can do it without a teleprompter, or the sycophant media worshiping him.
The crowds adored Ronald Reagan, too.
