First-term senator wielding such influence in House is sign of ongoing tumult in Republican Party.
The beginning of the collapse of House Speaker John A. Boehners border bill came Wednesday evening, when Texas Sen. Ted Cruz gathered more than a dozen House Republicans at his office in the Dirksen building on Capitol Hill.
It was there, as Boehner (R-Ohio) held his own meetings on the other side of Constitution Avenue, that Cruz heard that the speaker didnt have enough votes and realized that if his House allies held firm, he could rupture the fragile coalition supporting the measure.
Around the room amid the boxes of pizza and cans of Dr Pepper, a Texas favorite were longtime Cruz confidants, such as Rep. Michele Bachmann (Minn.), and more recent ones, such as Reps. Todd Rokita (Ind.) and Marsha Blackburn (Tenn.).
For more than an hour, the 13 House members complained, often bitterly, about Boehners bill, several attendees said. The speaker, with his $659 million measure that would fund federal agencies and bolster security along the U.S.-Mexico border, was ignoring the real issue, they said....

Cruz and Jeff Sessions are the lions of the senate.
TC 4 Speaker.
TC could be Speaker sooner. Optus later.
Optimus Cruz!
Cruz should not run for President. It’s unlikely he’ll win and he serves best in the Senate.
I’ll never vote for a Senator for President. Always look towards good Governors like Wis’s Scott Walker.
They are giants among midgets!
The GOP leadership are bought and paid for amnesty pimps.
Spot on. We need governors in 2016. No more Senators.
My smart phone isn,t.
The oompah-loompah is a drunken eunuch.
Power abhors a vacuum. If Senators Cruz, Lee, and Sessions are providing inspiring leadership in the House and Senate, that says a lot about the Speaker’s, House Majority Leader’s, and Senate Minority Leader’s leadership abilities. These guys couldn’t lead a horse to water.

++++
I’m with you on that but Ted Cruz might just be an exception. But in general we need to nominate strong conservatives with executive experience and governors are the best source of candidates with that resume.
Slightly off-topic: how about Trey Gowdy for Attorney General? That would be a hoot.
I doubt that my congresscritter John Carter was with Cruz. Carter is a big disappointment and Boehner crony.
Looks like the Bonehead crony’s got out numbered. And so was their weak bill.
Not me that posted that statement.
And it lacks a certain amount of common sense as well.
The only Governor who has done anything to stop the hordes from overwhelming the US is Rick Perry. And even he, although calling up the National Guard, isn't having them defend Texas.
NOT ONE of the govs stood up to Obama! They should be defending their states.
Especially reprehensible are Brewster and Martinez. They should've called up the NG when Perry did, since they have a border with Mexico.
It's time for governors to defy federal over-reach.
