Poll: Romney the frontrunner in 2016?
CNN's Political Ticker ^ | June 19, 2014 | Paul Steinhauser, political editor

He's said over and over that he won't run for the White House a third time, but a new poll indicates that if Mitt Romney changed his mind and made another bid for president, he'd be the frontrunner among Republicans in the first-in-the-nation primary state of New Hampshire.

According to the Suffolk University/Boston Herald survey, which was released Thursday, 24% of Granite State Republicans and independents who lean towards the GOP say that Romney would be their first choice for their party's presidential nomination.

Among the potential 2016 GOP contenders, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie was a distant second, at 9%, with Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky at 8%, and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush at 7%.

While the survey may make headlines, it's important to remember that Romney's very well known in New Hampshire. He owns a vacation home in the state, has often appeared at GOP events in New Hampshire, and was governor of neighboring Massachusetts. Romney easily won the 2012 Republican primary, but lost the state by six percentage points to President Barack Obama in the general election....

Does this mean we have to start writing hundreds of anti-Mormon articles or can we just recycle the old ones?

There has never been an anti-Mormon article ever posted on Free Republic. Not a single one. There were and are articles that exposed the cult of Mormonism. There's a vast difference between being anti-Mormon vs. anti-Mormonism. Those three letters at the stem of the word are very important.

Those FReeper Patriots who have explained the evils of Mormonism are stalwarts (some of whom I've pinged as a courtesy) with long terms of service here on this site. Their diligent research is indeed laudable and sets forth the facts in a clear, intelligent manner.

Do we not count Reagan in ‘68 as an official “try”? Was that more of a draft effort at the convention?

Ha, I didn’t know Dole ran in 1980, boy he must have been at the bottom of the back, pretty pathetic for a VP nominee.

Anyway, Romney in 2016? Give me break, forget that he’s a RINO, he lost an election we couldn’t afford to lose, he ran a bad race, and don’t let the Grecian 5 hair fool you, he’s ancient. I’d sooner give it to Christy Creme or spawn of Paul, what do you call him SOL, “Flower Child”. About the only candidate I’m not sure I’d prefer to Romney is frigging Jeb.

<<<<<<<<<<<<<< “ Santorum is NOT a strong candidate. He was second tier to start off with. Why he performed well was because he was the only thing remotely resembling a Conservative candidate, hence he was the fallback for many of us.” <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<,,

Indeed, it spoke to the pathetic state of our candidates, I mocked him for entering and ended up supporting him because there was no other choice (Newt and Paul, barf, I’d sooner have backed Romney).

NO ONE that ran in 2012 is POTUS timber, period.

If any of them could be a serious contender I would be bet it would be, despite his laughable campaign in 2012, Rick Perry. I’m not a fan, but every other 2012 contender is even more ludicrous a suggestion.

Fresh blood is desperately needed, and no, not ‘Sarah’.

Scott Walker? Ted Cruz?

<<<<<<<<<< 2ndDivisionVet: He sure didn’t win his “home” state, did he? <<<<<<

Well that depends. He had 4 home states, of course Massachusetts (had zero chance to win it but he hardly did better than McCain, pathetic), the state where he was born and raised, Michigan (lost), New Hampshire, I guess he lived there after he bailed on MA, (lost, I expected him to win it, fail) and Utah (of course won big).

You might count 1968 for Reagan, which momentarily slipped my mind. He wasn’t considered a serious challenger (except for a very brief moment when Rockefeller failed to make any headway by May). However he did apparently carry CA as a “favorite son”, but the fact that he was the only one on the ballot is a poor indicator, since Nixon probably would’ve bested him.

It’s funny, though. I think many considered that Reagan would eventually become President, just not in 1968.

BTW, if Palin runs in 2016, that would technically be her first attempt. That’s why I said Reagan was an exception of a retread that worked. Had GHW Bush not been VP going into the 1988 elections, as a retread, he probably would’ve failed. Any VP of Reagan’s likely would’ve had the momentum going into that election (indeed, as many historians and pol pundits consider 1988 Reagan’s “Third Term.”). That’s why I still wish he had chosen Paul Laxalt instead. We may get a future President with that name if his grandson wins his Atty Gen race this year.

You have expressed your support for Mitt Romney. That ticks off:

Normal Americans, non-greedheads, people who were not stars at their local polo club, not members of the Junior League, not trust fund babies, people who are quite seriously in favor of the RTKBA, pro-lifers, people who understand that marriage is only an institution that joins one man and one woman together, people who care about and support our military and want it to be second to none and ready to roll, folks who understand that most of the management of the infernal federal government will be carried out by career civil servants and that finding defenders of Western Civilization to staff the appointive positions, folks who understand that the GOP must be a party which actually opposes, resists and defeats (as painfully and memorably as possible) the agenda of the Demonrats which Romney would enact as enthusiastically as Obozo or anyone named Clinton. Just a sample of an infinite variety of reasons to resist a POS like Romney raher than voting him into the White Hut.

Let's end the era of spoiled little rich brats thinking they have any business whatsoever aspiring to be POTUS. Unlike Ronaldus Maximus, they don't know the words and they don't know the music.

Nominate another Romney, much less Mitt Romney (Slick Willard) himself, and kiss your "GOP" goodbye. It will go the way of its Federalist and Whig predecessors. They died of greed. So will the GOP. We may have to put up with the Arkansas Medusa or Obozo running the Demonrats. WE DO NOT have to put up with Slick Willard or anything vaguely resembling the unprincipled SOB, as a GOP candidate just because his pals on Wall Street and K Street are eager to bury his opponents under tons of corrupt money. We do not have to put up with Demonrats in GOP drag or liberals in conservative drag as GOP candidates. Mittens father was no good as was his eager pro-abort mother when she ran for Senate.

The GOP will elect a POTUS when it nominates a candidate and runs a campaign worth voting for. As David Brat told his supporters before he defeated The Wizard of Wall Street/K Street political $$$$ Eric Cantor: Money does not vote. You do. And so they did and Cantor is no more. On Thursday, June 19, the GOP House members elevated two more whores, McCarthy and Scalise, as a result of Cantor's resignation as Majority Leader. Let's see how the slimeball ruling class culprits defend that in November and afterwards.

What’s wrong with Ann Coulter? Mark Levin was saying she wants Romney to run again.

I love Ted Cruz, and some others, and I also think Santorum can win - he connects with regular people.

Romney, McCain, Christie, Jebbie, Lindsay Graham, Boehner, McCarthy, McConnell, Cornyn, Corker, LAMAR!!!, Obozo, the Arkansas Medusa. What’s the difference??? I would as soon support Charles Manson as any of them. He is older and sicker and more honest. One foot in the grave and the other on a banana peel. AND none of them or their slimeball assistants and lavishly funded sycophants are fit to kiss the sole of a discarded Palin shoe.

It was during that first campaign by Ronald Reagan for the presidency that Michael (his actual name) Luther King hissed these vile, hate-filled words about one of the two finest men to hold that office in the past 150 years:

"When a Hollywood performer, lacking distinction even as an actor, can become a leading war hawk candidate for the presidency, only the irrationalities induced by war psychosis can explain such a turn of events."

MLK seethed those remarks, not surprisingly, at a leftist convention for union thugs (National Labor Leadership Assembly for Peace) in November 1967. That confab of commies was held in Chicago, the same city that was home to William Ayers and hussein obama.

Mittens was and is a regular Jacob Marley. As a phony former POTUS nominee, he is probably toting about 275 miles of heavy duty chain, thousands of tons. Maybe the ghost of George Romney will arrive to visit Mittens during the Christmas season as a warning!

Mittens is just "a good man of business." Somebody has to dispose of all those innocent but inconvenient little corpses. It may as well be the current leader of Clan Romney. Moloch must be so proud!

God bless.

I know, I just mentioned her because I don't want to see that nonsense again, with people pretending she's considering running, when it's clear she's not.

Ann Coulter has been passionately in love with Romney for some time. Add that to her other flaky positions, like supporting the late GOProud and I have to label her a weirdo ditz, brilliant writer, but still.

My father saw MLK at Berkeley giving a speech around 1967 or so. He was not impressed, observing how he was trying to latch onto the next issue (Vietnam) to stay “relevant” when the students had become bored with Civil Rights (since it had, after all, been federally “resolved” by then). This obsession with some on the GOP side as trying to paint him as one of ours when he was already clearly radicalized by his death and leading his fellow Blacks down the path to hell of increased dependency and governmental reliance (at the expense of destroyed families and driving out or marginalizing Black fathers) is nothing short of crazy.

I lament his early and violent death if only because it canonized a serial philanderer, absentee father and husband and committed leftist and political opportunist. Had he lived even 10 years longer, he would’ve become unraveled enough by his own actions that would’ve exposed him as a Je$$e Jack$on type, a chronic rabble-rouser, shakedown artist and racebaiter who’d have sold his soul to the Democrat party for keeping the slaves on the plantation.

That his name adorns streets that run through destroyed Black inner-cities, the victims of the very politics and dependencies he promoted and supported, is the ultimate testament to him. So is the abomination sitting in the White House, who has similarly caused untold damage and division that will take decades to correct, if we’re lucky.

I don’t know if she’s going to run in 2016. Fortunately at her age, she could remain a viable contender until 2032 (when she’d be around Hillary’s age at present). It’s possible she may be waiting on Ted Cruz to see if he makes it official (in which case, he may very well offer her the VP slot or Secretary of State). In that instance, she’ll be a mature and seasoned 60 by 2024 at the end of his two terms.

Better see what you can do to nominate a candidate who is pro-life, pro-marriage, pro-gun rights, pro-military, determined to prosecute the criminals who have been running this country into the ground intentionally, determined to slash government slush funds and not obsessed with smooching the posteriors of the Wall Street and K Street corruptocrats.

To hell with Muffie and her infernal trust fund. Put this country back to work including work done by ordinary folks with their hands. Hold GOP business leaders as well as Democrats responsible for the destruction of the middle class.

I have never seen a post here in which Norm Lenhart has been wrong or incorrect on any matter of policy. I can't say the same for you. This is a premiere conservative website BECAUSE of JimRob and members like Norm Lenhart and Eternal Vigilance. Principled conservatives not GOP party hacks. I don't think that most here who refused to vote for Romney (as I refused) preferred Obozo or would prefer Hillary. There is nothing to choose among such candidates. From 1968 through 2008, I voted for the GOP in each and every POTUS race. Except for Reaqan and maybe Bush the Younger, I found myself holding my nose and voting for Republican enemies. I'm done. Nominate a candidate worth electing or I vote third party and I don't care what AntiChrist the Demonrats nominate against the elitist GOP AntiChrist. It just doesn't matter enough nowadays.

No more Romneys. No more McCains. No more Doles. No more Bush the Elders. No gun grabbers. No pro-aborts. No cheerleaders for degeneracy posing as "marriage" or any similar agenda. No more enemies of the American military and veterans. No more enemies of the middle class. No more folks who place a higher priority on being comfortable and invited to elitist cocktail parties by those fashionables and celebrities who hate and despise each and every agenda of the GOP base and of Western Civilization.

Rule or ruin. Sabotage each and every GOP-Elitist trashbag running for public office at every level. Let each and every candidate fueled by elitist money bear as much shame as one convicted of child molesting. That would be a very good job!

That his [MLK] name adorns streets that run through destroyed Black inner-cities, the victims of the very politics and dependencies he promoted and supported, is the ultimate testament to him.

That's very well said. It's disgusting that a national holiday bears his name (and not even his real name at that) but George Washington's birthday has been relegated to the generic catchall of President's Day. I applaud the Conservative Patriots who voted against the King holiday. Here's the rollcall for the House and Senate from 1983 and the breakdown by party:

HOUSE NAY AYE
DemonRAT 13 249
Republican 77 89 <-(the RINO wing)

SENATE NAY AYE
DemonRAT 4 41
Republican 18 37 <-(the RINO wing)
Good men such as Senators Jesse Helms, Barry Goldwater and John Tower stood firm in their opposition to this travesty. Foreshadowing their later full-blown liberalism Arlen Specter and Thad Cochran showed their RINOism by voting in favor.

Rooster Redux:

Your nominating and supporting Slick Willard for the GOP nominee elected Obozo along with Mittens' unprecedented incompetence as a candidate. In a race between two outright losers, people chose the loser they knew over the GOP loser. Just keep on keepin' on. Stick a fork in the electrical outlet again and again. Maybe it will work out better for you next time. Or the time after that. Or whatever.

If, by some hideous and monstrous twist of fate, Mitt Romney ends up as the 2016 GOP standard bearer ...

As presently configured for primary run-offs, that is exactly what is most likely to happen, or a similarly collectivist-leftist "Republican" ala Jeb or Christie. No "twist of fate" about it. Two short years away from now it will be the same unless by some incredible and terrific twist of fate, the GOP voters in liberal Northeast states turn about-face to embrace the Limited Government Cruz Palin approach OR primary protocols are drastically overhauled. Like either are going to happen in 24 months.

If as is likely transpires in 2016, the GOP puts forth a collectivist liberal as its standard bearer, public sentiment will be roiling for an independent "third" party -- in reality a SECOND party -- alternative. Time will be ripe.
