Republicans Seek Revenge Against Ted Cruz
Time ^ | June 8, 2014 | Jay Newton-Small

Now that primary season is almost over, some establishment Republicans are looking for retribution

Ted Cruz has not made himself a popular man in Washington, D.C. The Texas Republican would argue that’s the point. But even for a Senator—an elected office with the backing of an entire state—ticking off powerful people can have consequences.

In his first two years in Washington, Cruz has managed to help force a government shutdown, undermine the GOP’s chances of taking over the Senate and force uncomfortable votes for his fellow Republicans. Not to mention the verbal bombs he lobs on a regular basis, many aimed at his own party. His colleagues, aware of the threats they face from primary challengers, have mostly held their tongues and their fire so far. But Cruz has already done some damage without much trying. A week after his election to the Senate in 2012, Cruz was named vice chair of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, which works to elect Republicans to the Senate. But he subsequently refused to endorse incumbent senators, or help them in their races, a fact that many Tea Party insurgents have seized upon. He hasn’t set foot in the NRSC in more than a year, sources say.

“They tried to channel him to be somewhat productive. They tried that with NRSC,” says John Feehery, a former longtime GOP Hill aide. “Lyndon Johnson once said he’d rather have people inside the tent pissing out. But [Cruz] seems to be inside the tent pissing in.”(continued)

I’ve calculated and bet upon a net 7 seats for the GOP come November.

WV - Win
SD - Win
MT - Win
LA - Win
AR - Win
AK - Win
IA - Win
MI - Win
GA - Win
KY - Lose
NC - Lose
CO - Lose
OR - Lose
MN - Lose

I think for the good of the party, depending on what the polls look like a week out, and if this result is holding, that we should let Mitch go, just don’t turn out and let Grimes win it to depose Mitch. The net gain is 7 and we flip the chamber, but Cornyn becomes majority leader. I think its Barrasso or Thune who takes Whip position. Both RINOs, but they are much more liable to manipulation than Mitch. With enough guys, we can twist their arms. I have a feeling Mitch is in ‘destroy the Tea Party’ mode for life now. We cannot allow that. Cornyn, as a Republican from Texas wouldn’t dare try to castigate his much more popular colleague. Mitch has nothing to fear from Texas voters.

Don't put it past that liberal bastard. He's not getting my vote in November.

“That’s all true, but Time - like all the Jurassic media outlets - want to stir it up as much as possible.”

They are pretending to be relevant.

Cornyn got less than 60% against opponents with no money whatsoever. As majority leader, his actions would be under more scrutiny, and from a state that just gave the shaft to a lot of its state RINOs as well as Ralph Hall, I can see Cornyn being forced to be more like Cruz than he’s attempting to be right now.

“You forgot to say “Buy American”. ;)”

It takes me hours longer and lots more gas to find stores that carry American products. And most of those are probably assembled here using Chinese parts or ingredients.

He's made some pretty smart-assed anti-conservative tweets since the primary.

I'm not seeing that dem yes-man running scared.

“Just saying. I think she’s on our side, to the extent someone from Time can be.”

This hit piece vilifying a real conservative proves otherwise.

Bear in mind that this was published in TIME by something with a hyphenated last name.

I’m not sure.

She is slightly focused on Cruz as a troublemaking outsider, but in part that is what he is.

She seems on balance acceptable. I agree her article on Cruz is on balance negative, but I’m not ready to count her out. Reading more from this reporter.

“She is slightly focused on Cruz as a troublemaking outsider, but in part that is what he is.”

It could’ve been done with a positive light, which would’ve made it more popular to read by the masses. Rebels usually make for good stories if not treated with disdain.

Are you related to this reporter?

No, I’ve never actually read anything by her before today.

She seems to possibly be balanced. That is not a quality one sees much in our media.

Her writing on Palin seemed to be overwhelmingly informative.

Excuse me for getting overly-focused on a reporter.

The Republican Senate won’t be getting anything past Obama anyway so the committee assignments are not as important. Are they going to kick him off the judiciary and replace him with McCain?

McConnell needs to be replaced as leader so Flake, Hatch, Graham and Cornyn can get kicked off the judiciary and replaced with those who oppose amnesty. They should have Vitter, Crapo, Risch, Tim Scott and/or others on the judiciary instead.

Huelskamp is being primaried from the left. I saw one of the facebook pages of a challenger. It was just Boehner worship non-stop.

I suppose it could get interesting if the citizens join their “public servants” in casting the law aside.

IF trends continue, that will happen, and may already be going on more than we can see.

'Some animals are more equal than other animals', only works for so long before the other animals decide they have 'equal rights', too.

I have seen that sort of backlash before on a more limited scale, and mayhem ensued.

Time is really not even a magazine anymore. It’s more like a pamphlet.
