The antitax Club for Growth on Wednesday called on Sen. Thad Cochran (R-Miss.) to end his campaign a day after a too-close-to-call primary against tea party-backed Chris McDaniel that could be headed to a runoff.
Yesterdays historic vote makes it clear that Mississippians are ready to turn the page to a new generation of bold, conservative leadership. Senator Cochran has served honorably, but the rationale for his candidacy ended yesterday. He said he didnt want to run again, but everyone asked him to. Well, a plurality of Mississippi Republican voters just proved that they dont want him to, said Club for Growth President Chris Chocola in a statement.
He added that Cochran "should do the honorable thing and decline to contest the runoff." Should he choose to continue his campaign, Chocola said, his group "will vigorously pursue this race to its conclusion."
The Club for Growth backs McDaniel and has spent more money supporting him than any other group....

Well that would be fantastic if he would. I don’t see it but that would be great.
when do they count the absentee ballots...it could be enough to put McDaniel over the top..and is there now an automatic recount??
Like that’s gonna happen.
There are still 4 whole precincts in the most populous county in the state that haven’t been counted yet.
I’m calling on him to drop out as well. Don’t make us waste more money, Thad. You’re done. Retire.
Tell Cochran publically that he needs to spend more time with his family.
Isn’t that Rankin?
Agreed. The Republican nominee should be virtually guaranteed election in MS. This makes the state one of the good ones for Tea Party challenges of GOPe-ers. Cochranes issues over the last week actually erode confidence in his ability to both win and serve effectively for another 6 years.
And if he doesn’t retire I’d think McDaniels could overwhelm Cocharan with energy, intelligence and appeal. Force the issue that Cocahran’s too old and too feeble, by comparison. Make it clear that Cocharan will never have the energy to keep that seat from the dems, but McDaniels will.
It also appears clear that the 40 year incumbent is going to finish second. He could show a lot of class by making a graceful exit now.
Its the prospect of a media demanded debate that should scare Cochran into surrender. He hasn’t been in a debate since before the invention of sliced bread.
For these old coots that have been on the Hill for 30+ years, the transition from overlord back to lowly citizen is a fate worse than death. I’ll be surprised if he doesn’t cling to his life of perks and privilege until the very bitter end.
I’d all for McDaniel, but why would Cochran quit when the election is a dead heat and the most likely outcome right now is a runoff? Sort of an insulting request, IMO.

“Note: 4 Hinds boxes won’t be counted until in the morning. “
Having been to Tupelo I can't blame him for clinging to power. But that alone isn't a good enough reson for re-election. I hope McDaniel pulls it out in the runoff.
Yes.
Why would Cochran quit? He didn’t even give a speech to his campaign workers last night. He sent out Gregg Harper to speak. Was it already past his bedtime?
He’s 76 for pete’s sake. He said already he wanted to retire but ‘everyone’ talked him into running again. ‘Everyone’ being the Barbour clan.
