Ted Cruz, R-Texas, has won another straw poll, boosting his national profile and elevating his name among potential 2016 presidential contenders.
The firebrand freshman senator and tea party favorite was among a handful of 2016 hopefuls speaking at the Republican Leadership Conference in New Orleans this week.
Cruz finished in first place in the annual conference's presidential straw poll at 30.33%. Dr. Ben Carson, a Fox News commentator and conservative activist, finished in second with 29.38% while Sen. Rand Paul, R-Kentucky, was third with 10.43%.
Fox News host and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee and Texas Governor Rick Perry rounded out the top five, at 5.06% and 4.90%, respectively....

You guys may bash me over the head, but I’m going to say it anyway... When Obama got elected, I said we would never have another White president again, and the next president would likely be President Gonzalez— and I was almost right!!! Just got the name wrong. Commence the flogging.
Read his bio and see if you still think he’s popular for his ethnicity.
Go Ted Cruz Go. If you run you have my vote. IMHO you are the best man for the job, Bar none!!!
Now if he will run and pick some gal from Alaska, that would be the icing on the cake.
I know— he could be a great guy, probably a much better president. But my thesis clearly states, we will never have another White president again. That would be racist.
Conservatives don’t care about color.
We judge the content of character, and Cruz has plenty of good content.
I point again to my opening statement, which is true.
Smells like a troll, talks like a troll. It’s a troll.
Only Democrats care about race.
Now if he will run and pick some gal from Alaska, that would be the icing on the cake.Unless she's at the top of the ticket, I'd prefer to see Governor Palin remain outside the Beltway, holding our elected officials feet to the fire.
She's one of the few that will call out both sides if they neglect the best interests of the public.
First black president, first woman president, first Hispanic president, first transgen, or whatever. It’s like we’re taking bar bets. People are going for novelty.
Bravo!
Thank you Texas for Sen. Ted Cruz!
Are you suggesting that because he has a Spanish surname, he is not white? Many people who are in Spain and much of Latin America might take issue with that.
Can't wait for the MSM and supposedly conservative pundits to try and stifle this, ignore this or tell us how unimportant it is.
This is no small thing. Besides, the Republicans are going to save us? Are they going to deport the millions and millions of illegals so we can take their jobs? Are they going to end welfare? Can we drill for oil anywhere we choose? Seal the border? Audit the Fed and put those scoundrels in jail or worse for stealing trillions?
No, they are the same guys who are bussing in illegals by the trainload and working on comprehensive paths to coming out of the shadows for the dreaming undocumented or whatever. You know who could save us? Freaking Genghis Khan. If he were running for office, I'd vote for him.
LOVE IT!!
In the straw poll, 633 ballots were cast, which was attended by more than 1,500 people.

2. Ben Carson 29.38 percent
3. Rand Paul 10.43 percent
4. Mike Huckabee 5.06 percent
5. Rick Perry 4.90 percent
6. Curt Clawson (write-in) 4.58 percent
7. Jeb Bush 4.42 percent
8. Marco Rubio 3.32 percent
9. Rick Santorum 2.37 percent
10. Paul Ryan 2.05 percent

O yeah baby! Go Cruz!
Hispanic is a broad term. My family is from Spain (we even have the forehead and nose that Cruz has). I am white, and most people, before hearing my name, think I am something other than Hispanic. My half-brother is part indian and is darker skinned. We both, however, are considered Hispanic. Either way, ethnicity doesn’t actually matter. It is the character that actually counts.
Incredible that there was a straw poll in this world that the Paulistas couldn’t hijack. Paul wasn’t even anywhere close!
