Jayme Smith and Sarah Palin stand outside La Quinta Inn and Suites on Friday.
The trip wasnt all business for those who supported U.S. Senate candidate Ben Sasse on his campaign tour through North Platte on Friday.
Kay Orr, the former Republican governor of Nebraska, admitted to sneaking in a little early morning shopping at Herbergers.
My husband always tells me I dont have to support every local economy, Orr said with a laugh.
Another featured guest, former Alaska governor and vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin, took advantage of the beauty services North Platte has to offer.
Jayme Smith, cosmetologist for Studio 54, was recruited to style Palins hair.
I was a little nervous but more excited, Smith said. I had researched her past hair styles, but she kind of told me what she was looking for. She was awesome. A real nice lady. She autographed my product bag.
Smith was asked on April 17 if she would do the job. She was recommended by Barb Fear, manager of La Quinta Inn and Suites, where Palin was staying.
I was pretty ecstatic, Smith said of the request.
She went to the hotel so Palin wouldnt have to be in the salon. The styling process took about an hour, during which time Palin practiced her speech and asked questions about Nebraska.
She thought it was neat that Kool-Aid got its start here, Smith said. And we talked about beef. Steak is a big thing in Alaska. They eat a lot of caribou.
Smith is excited to have the story to pass on to her kids and grandkids someday.
The whole thing was very fun, Smith said. Im glad I got to do it.
as a comparison, show Kerry getting a manicure.
Thanks for thee link,to the story of the WW2 North Platte Canteen.
Imagine, a home grown effort without any government money operates efficiently for four and a half years and serves six million troops, including hospital trains. How American is that!
I hope Sarah Palin, President No. 45, can bring back that spirit.
Mmmm...Waffle House!
I could go for a bowl of Bert's Chili right now!
Pretty makeup job as well. Ah, to have the first pretty female president.
Biden has his hair done at TruGreen ChemLawn.
“...La Quinta Inn and Suites, where Palin was staying.”
Love that about her. Nothing fancy, just LEADERSHIP by EXAMPLE.
Granted, I’m sure there are many, MANY perks to being Sarah - but first, you gotta be Sarah! :)
God bless!
Considering the source of the story (World Herald aka Weird Harold "out here"), anything positive was edited out even if the reporter screwed up and included it in the first place.
OTOH, didn't seem to be much snark in the story, even if I didn't read all of the thing....
Actually I think the lawn guys probably do a better job
Good luck with that. I think its gone forever. And that is too bad.
She is very down to Earth. That means something to a lot of people who are struggling making ends meet and seeing her stay in a modest Hotel and using a local hairdresser.
+1000. I despise him and his Mussolini nose up in the air pose.
