Former Homeland Security Committee Chairman Rep. Peter King (R-N.Y.) said hes still pondering a run for the White House because he doesnt want Sens. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and Rand Paul (R-Ky.) define the GOP.
King, whos made five trips up to early primary state New Hampshire and admitted in July that hes toying with the idea of a presidential campaign, told MSNBC he hasnt made up his mind yet and his decision should come sometime next year, either next year or the beginning of 2015.
Again, Ive been up there five times. I am looking at it. People are talking to me. But so far, Im just using it as a chance to find out whats happening on the ground, support other Republicans. But if I see the support is there, then Ill make that decision, he said.
I think a presidential run itself is very important whether its me or somebody else. I dont want the Ted Cruzes and the Rand Pauls taking over the Republican Party. I want this to be a blue collar, conservative, Ronald Reagan party with someone who can work with organized labor, strong foreign policy, dont be apologizing for America, dont be afraid about drones attacking us in Starbucks.
When asked if he could beat New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R), King replied, I think you should ask Chris Christie if he can beat me.
And actually, yeah, Ive known Chris Christie for quite a while. This is what happens. I mean, if he jumps in, thats one thing. That wouldnt that alone would not be enough to keep me out. I mean, Chris Christie and I get along. We share some views, others we dont. And well see what happens. But I wouldnt be deferring to anyone else, the congressman said.
One way or the other, Ill be to Iowa, yeah, because if nothing else, just to talk to other Republicans to find out what direction the party should go in. I mean, New Hampshire and Iowa set the tone for the campaign and that sets the tone for the party and the country.
It’s way, way past time for the GOP to tell us, as a group, what core principles they actually agree on, what they think the best way to support those principles are, and what legislation and policies they support to achieve their goals. If they can’t do this, then they are not a party. A ‘big tent’ is not viable if there isn’t enough to agree upon to sustain its structure.
Along those lines, it’s worth asking amongst ourselves, “what core principles are those that are most important to those of us here?”, “what can we compromise on, and what can we not compromise on?” For me, the general principle of self-determinism is crucial - with the caveat that our freedoms don’t include the right to hurt others (e.g. children, the unborn, etc.).
Well, that is what the unions are paying you to do Peter.
I would not vote for a ticket with Paul on it.
Old Pete King has an awful high opinion of himself doesn’t he.
I don’t think most people have any idea of who he is.
I understand that R. Perry will run again but Cruz won’t; mostly my hunch.
Actually, I support this. It will bleed money from the designated RINO candidate because the radical liberal Republicans will hopefully give it to this hoser.
Run Peter run. Don’t disappoint us! And then SHADDAP after you get your Arlen Specter 1% treatment by real voters outside Washington and New York. Bob
Peter King = one more member of the enemy within.
He is scum.
Terrorist IRA?
How about a group of Patriots, in support of their duly-authorized constitution, fighting back against a murderous Thug-ocracy?
Stop watching the BBC for your news about dear Erin.
Peter Kig is a POS, but many folks in NY have supported the Irish Republic for generations.
26+6=1
Actually, we've already had one King as President...better known as Gerald Ford (born Leslie King, Jr.).
Three of the last six Presidents have served under an assumed or adopted name: Leslie King as Gerald Ford, Billy Blythe as Bill Clinton, and Barry Soetoro as Barack Hussein Obama.
King fits right in there with the rest of the dullard GOP loser nominees of the past. Run King run. Please!
That’s why I put him as VP instead of President. As far as I know, Sarah doesn’t support amnesty, and while I have no doubt she’d follow the Constitution to the letter, Paul could advise well on foreign issues. There’s no reason for us to intervene in civil wars in other countries.
IOW a useful idiot paid vote splitter.
OK mickey.
Maybe in the early 20th century. But late 20th and early 21st century is an IRA that are Marxist POS Commie pretenders.
With one exception.
In or out. Don't be coy.
LOL, Pat Paulson will get more votes than King.
