Honest: Would You Rather Win with Chris Christie or Lose with Ted Cruz?
Jewish World Review ^ | November 12, 2013 | Bernard Goldberg

Posted on 11/12/2013 5:18:36 PM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

Those sophisticates at Time magazine made a funny. They put Chris Christie on their cover with the headline, "The Elephant in the Room." Get it? Elephant. Christie. Time magazine did a junior high fat joke right there on its cover. Time's executive editor Michael Duffy explained the cheap shot this way: "Well, he's obviously a big guy. He's obviously a big Republican. But he's also done a really huge thing here this week."

The "huge thing" wasn't only winning re-election as New Jersey's governor, but doing it by appealing to a broad range of voters in a very blue state — not just to his conservative base.

But, hey, no harm no foul. Time isn't even a newsmagazine anymore. It became a liberal journal of opinion a long time ago. So you can just hear those wild and crazy journalists at Time sitting around the conference room table giggling about how they'd get away with their fat joke because, well, in the world of politics, the word "elephant" isn't a synonym with "fatso."

But do you think the gang at Time would ever say Barack Obama is a "dark horse." In the world of politics "dark" doesn't mean "black," right?

Time's cover doesn't necessarily mean that Chris Christie is the GOP frontrunner for 2016. It's way too early for that....

Can you name the last “moderate” Republican nominee to win the Presidency?

Note how Christie views ARs. They aren’t just “assault rifles”, they are “AUTOMATIC assault rifles”

"But he doesn’t have the principles the purists want"

Oh, look, there it is----the "P" word, and so early in the game, too!

On Fox News Sunday, Christie bragged about his fondness for bipartisanship. He advocated gun control---or, as he put it, "violence" control. He spoke about favoring immigration reform as a way to fix a "broken" system (which he very well knows is not broken at all).

Christie just made CAIR's list of people fighting hardest against Islamaphobia. Isn't that cozy? How nice for him. And he said that while he is a Catholic, he doesn't believe homosexuality is wrong...in fact, a thread just appeared on the forum in which he crows about his happiness for lesbians and fags who get married in New Jersey.

Purist.....no, I just want someone with decent principles. But you can label me that, if it makes you happy....I don't give a damn. I find nothing to recommend your fat, queer-loving blowhard of a governor, whose ego is as big as his gut. You can keep him.

I’m so sick of politicians.

Yeah. Threads like this make me sad. I feel sorry for the poor saps who think "THIS time, we'll get a REAL conservative!". And I miss the days when I was like that. It was fun.

Ted Cruz would destroy Rodham in debates.

I’d rather win with Cruz than lose with Christie. His gimme’ election is hardly a measure of how Christie will perform on the national stage. Cruz was right about delaying the individual mandate of Obamacare, and right about the travesty Obamacare is.

the disaster that will allow the country to fail and start over,

What makes you believe there would be an opportunity to start over?

I wonder why Mr. Goldberg only used examples from Senate races in his analysis. He faults conservatives for the problems of candidates like Christine O'Donnell, but ignores the fact that the Republican presidential candidates that lost the last few elections would, by his logic, be good candidates for the next election.

Empirical evidence suggests a candidate who supposedly can "attract moderates and independents" and "win the support of women and minorities" won't on election day, just like Romney or McCain failed to live up to those expectations.

You’re smoking dope.

Christie’s wet sloppy kiss after Sandy to Zero tore it in my book.

But he doesn’t have the principles the purists want.

Working hand-in-hand with Democrats have really advanced conservatism so far, right?

I don't see Obama, Reid, or Pelosi compromising on abortion, gun rights, and healthcare.

Hillary will get the womens vote. The conservatives will stay home.

I have a better idea. Conservatives have 6 debates, Rush, Hannity, Levin, Ingraham as hosts. Then there is a conservative convention and the first two finishers are the conservative Republican ticket for the primaries.

We don’t divide our vote like last time, we back the conservative and defeat Crispy Cream. and then we beat Hillary. I am tired of Dole/McCain/Romney clones.
No more Rinos.

Christie would just make the slide towards socialism a little slower. He would do NOTHING to reverse the decades of creeping socialsim.

They can't. There has never been a moderate Republican who was one and ran as one to get elected.

Eisenhower won on the strength of being a WWII general, Nixon was law-and-order, Ford was not elected, Bush I benefitted from Reagan's coattails, and Bush II ran twice as a conservative, and still won by nail-biters.

Alf Landon, Wendell Willkie, Thomas Dewey, Ford, Bush I's 2nd term, Dole, McCain, Romney...all moderate losers.

Therein lies the problem. He’s an obese, loud Northern Charlie Crist or Lindsey Graham.
