On Election Night 2010, I watched the returns come in alongside a prominent liberal columnist. As he observed the Republicans capture the House of Representatives and gain in the Senate, in governors mansions, and in state houses across the country, my friend put the best spin on events that he could.
Well, I remember him saying, the Obama electorate just didnt show up.
How right he was. The voters who went to the polls in 2010 were older and whiter than the voters in 2008. Whites made up 77 percent of the electorate in 2010. And the Republican share of that vote was 60 percent, translating into the best year for the GOP since 1948.
Fast-forward two years. The Romney campaign and many conservatives, including me, assumed the 2012 electorate would more closely resemble 2010 than 2008. We were wrong. In 2012, the white share of the electorate dropped to 72 percent. Romney won 59 percent of that vote: the highest share for a presidential candidate in decades, but not high enough to defeat President Obama. As my liberal colleague had predicted, the Obama electorate returned to save the president from the heartbreak of a single term.
Are conservatives repeating the mistake? They take it for granted that the electorate in 2014 will be the same as in 2010. Surely Obama voters will stay home during the midterms, they say. Surely Obama and Democrats in Congress will suffer from the same six-year itch that voters scratched in the Reagan and George W. Bush administrations.
They point out the favorable political conditions. Senate Democrats are defending more seats than Senate Republicans. The House? Its a firewall, strengthened by gerrymandering, incumbency, and the concentration of Obama supporters in a few districts. The presidents approval rating is in the doldrums. And Republicans are performing fairly well on the generic ballot.
All true. But all subject to change: A major event could rally the public to the president, a Republican-engineered government shutdown could blow whatever good will with voters the party has left, a rash of scandals could break out over Republicans in Congress, disappointment in GOP leadership and message could lead to apathy, disillusion, and a decline in turnout.
Leaving the field open to the Obama team, assuming it is ready to play.
It is. The presidents attempts to recreate the conditions of the 2012 election have been blatant but not ineffective. His campaign was transformed into Organizing for Action in order to keep tabs on its precious voter list and data and keep core supporters active (even if those supporters dont always show at events). His fundraising appeals mention his desire to restore Nancy Pelosi to speaker of the House. His major policy addresseson drones and the war on terror, on global warming, on surveillanceare designed to keep his liberal base placated during this politically difficult time. His sudden return to themes of economics, inequality, and government activism is a recapitulation of his successful 2012 message of caring about people. Hammering uncaring Republicans, giving speeches before adoring, raucous crowds, bus toursthis isnt how presidents behave in an off year. Its how they behave in an election year.
For Obama, that election year has already begun. In the summer of 2012, his lieutenants spent millions on negative, dishonest advertisements that successfully defined Romney as a heartless private equity tycoon. In 2014, however, there is no single candidate for them to define. Instead they have to define the entire Republican Partynot only as a bunch of rapacious Objectivists, but also, and more importantly, as a mob eager to deprive minorities and women of civil rights.
That is why the president lately has been speaking personally about race. The threat of a return to segregation and Jim Crow is a spur to actionand the greater the perception that such a return is imminent, the better the chances of high Democratic turnout next year. The presidents remarks on Trayvon Martin and race in America, his Justice Departments continuing fights with Texas over the Voting Rights Act, the steady drumbeat of rhetoric suggesting the right to vote is in peril, the presidents suggestion in a recent New York Times interview that if his economic program is not implemented racial tensions wont get better; they may get worse, all heighten the stakes for his most committed supporters. True, none of these messages has the subtlety of last years Theyre going to put yall back in chains. But thats what makes Joe so special.
The war on women resumed earlier this summer when Texas state senator Wendy Davis catapulted into celebrityand into the pages of Voguewith her highly publicized, and highly ineffective, filibuster of state abortion regulations. Expect Republican candidates for House, Senate, and governor to be questioned not on their views of abortion but on their views of contraception. And wait, as legions of Democratic trackers are waiting, for the inevitable gaffe involving abortion and rape.
A spirited and risk-taking GOP could rally its electorate and respond to the inevitable attacks and missteps with an affirmative, unapologetic program that addressed national security, the economy, and the condition of American society. If you see it, let me know. At the moment, the Republican message is limited to highlighting scandals and the problems with Obamacare. Its reactive, not active. What would be the agenda if, say, John Boehner suddenly became president? What would Republicans do? End the Fed?
Yes, with a Republican House, president and vice president, and 50 Senators, they could repeal Obamacare. But what would replace it?
The Republican Party was lulled into a similar complacency in 1998 when they assumed impeachment was message enough to gain seats. Instead they lost five. Plenty of people were convinced the economy and Obamas manifest failures would doom him in 2012. Every day provides a new, horrible reminder that they were wrong.
The majority is at risk, an unnamed Republican strategist told Byron York earlier this week. It may not look that way now. But it didnt look that way in September 2005, either. Be afraid.
Republicans are like Muslims. While they enjoy fighting with everyone, the real thrill comes when they fight amongst each other. We have met the enemy, and it is us.
As long as the GOP remains a bunch of limp wristed wussies and fail to offer a bold alternative to the progressive agenda, then they will have a very difficult time maintaining a majority.
Yep. It doesn’t matter what the GOP action plan for 2014 is if they are not willing to fight for it. So far the only thing they seem willing to fight for is amnesty. Without consistent engagement from the GOP the Dems/MSM complex will control the narrative and they will win in 2014.
We are seeing the exact same tip toe to the election loser strategy from the same bunch careerist cowards in the beltway GOP. The BOHICA strategy.

Subject: Re Reception report 2
Subject:The Dual Purpose for the “Targeting” of George Zimmerman
The truth and dual purpose behind the Zimmerman persecution .. The regime and the media set the premise for the trial narrative and their presentations ignoring the setting where the incident took place..An area having a Neighborhood Watch...The first was to gin up the base for purposes explained herein but there was another second agenda..
If some of those so called conservative talk show hosts had interviewed guests who run such watches and had the courage to fight PC and defend Zimmerman they would have exposed the regime and the media for the frauds they are. The few who are still “milking this” by accepting black callers. Fail to cite the simple facts outlined and documented here,. and to ask them what has Obama done for you? Then dismiss them as unfortunately being used and deliberately mis-informed..
Particularly a gated neighborhood watch. When you enter one of these and start wandering around no matter if you are white, blue, red, green, or black. You can be asked your purpose for being there. You are on private property. And yes those on patrol can and do leave their vehicle and follow on foot if they lose sight of the person theyre observing..Thats the Watch Captains who is really a security guards job.http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-bloggers/3054721/posts
Its the second time the President of the United States has interjected himself into a confrontation between those in authority on legal grounds reasonably questioned and released someone involved in a curious activity in a patrolled area. Could this attitude be based from the idealized communist concept that there is no such thing as private property because the state (collective) owns the land ? http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/3042477/posts and is the second purpose of selecting this episode to paint a target on Zimmerman’s back http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3054815/posts
In both cases those representing authority were reported as white . In the second case the person working security was attacked on private rights of way while on foot who discontinued an observation and was returing to his vehicle after being suggested by the police to do so. Legally he could have approached Saint Trayvon but didnt..The hooded tall figure was allowed to continue on his way.unimpeded. But didnt. That figure turned out to be a Martin Trayvon who doubled back and attacked the neighborhood watch worker as he was returing to his vehicle. Knocked him to the ground and began beating him severly. Saint Trayvon, the attacker, was subsequently killed in a struggle over the Neighborhood Watchmans legal pistol.
In the second case both were dark skined.
The facts of this case are still being shamefully being concealed by the media to the extent they are advancing and are complicit in permitting a putrid injstice of the worst order, organized and instituted by our governent, to be committed .While denied. It began as a miscalculation when a surname of a Jewish origin shot up and lighted the heavens like a star shell in the darkest of nights. It would have been difused if the media used pictures of both side by side because they look like cousins. And the area where this occured of paycheck to paycheck struggling homeowners of all races trying to protect themselves had been reported and not some ritzy all white enclave.they portrayed..Worse yet the media is still pilling it on with ABC editing a a black jury members (remember when they were all white)t remarks to make it sound like she accused Zimmerman of murder .
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3048225/posts http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3048631/posts
The result as we have seen is that another marxist axiom (division) has been implemented which has resulted with gangs of black youths murdering happless whites and hispanics who happen into areas usually where a black population is the majority. Those media outlets who by their delberate misuse of the instrument of the 1st amendment are just as complicit in those deaths as the regime is. They had the duty but not the obligation to verify and report factually but instead quoted the reports from various mainlining socialist media sources: Some examples here all of which serve the first purpose of selecting Zimmerman as the target.

The Secondary Purpose
Using propaganda from the party that hypenated itself from God at their 2012 convention into demo-coms, and believe that all groups should be hyphenated , Afro-American, Hispanic-American, etc..Decided Zimmerman to be the egg that is to be broken,. sacrificed, so that we have an omlet..
Just like Stalin did to the Ukrainian land owners known as Kulacks whom he executed, (and used that egg example) in a soclal engineering plan to organize collectives during a Russian drought..Because as we have learned there seems to be the intention to use a collective data base to create collectives.where a utopia of uniforimity of conformity exists. As was done in Detroit, and Oakland California.only this time a poor whitey or blacky wont be able to move. http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3053314/posts.
Just as with the energy plan where the cost of fuel used for energy and transportation and that includes raising the price of transporting gas and oil by rail, that favors a key contributer (Buffett) while the regime has been recently ridiculing the impact the completion of a pipeline, has skyrocketed those costs. Placing many on fixed or limited incomes dependent on government handouts. Resulting from this regimes socialist policies which go blameless. Now call for the sacrifice of Zimmerman who must die for another communist plan.. We all move together in centers designed and approved by comrades running the collective who (just like Obamacare arent in it) wont ever live there.
What could the first purpose be ?
What better way to cover up Bengahzi, Fast and furious, IRS, Wind and Solar panel gate, NSA spying on US, Over-riding the constittution? Dont look into who accompaines Obama on his many trips around the world at taxpayer expence ? Were they the heavy hitters or their friends holding the presidents hand isn’t that pay back at US taxpayer expence?. Isnt that an impeachable offense ??
Now if somebody even suggests impeachment. Get to your black base voters, whom you’ve done nothing for,.all worked up. Pick on some security guard who’s doing his job. Accuse him of being racist ,even though he is part black..But his last name sounds jewish.Whos doing surveilance in an mixed race area of modest means a where theres been robberies and burgalries by young blacks. Now call that surveilance stalking, the area hes patrolling owned by rich whities, and the guard of course he’s white. That person hes watching a 10 year old black kid and a saint ,not six foot two 165 pound 16 year old, who gets killed fighting over a gun. . Now put a target on the security guards back .Aint that neat ? What better way to discourage any investigation into malfeasance and corruption by organizing the base for riots in the streets ? Think it’s too far fetched ? Think it’s not working ? Look again http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3051558/posts
To date the political opposition has yet to mention or comment on this example of how this regime operates. It’s time to ask them why
Background info
Note sources used here are from www.freerepublic.com which is a news gathering source whos members voluntarily post articles from authentic attributable known sources and link those original news sources in their postings Their purpose is getting comments from members on the selected topic The author is a member..
You are encouraged to Print up or email -pass it on....Why ? Time to expose citizens to the face the facts that they may believe whatever activity they get involved in is perfectly legitimate and legal. If it suits their purposes this regime and its adhearants will paint a target on their back.
WHY WE LOST IN 2012
http://www.theusmat.com
Ditto.
I’d know the difference right away. With Nancy Pelosi holding the gavel again Valerie Jarrett would take her revenge.
Is that from playing switch?
there will be less pointing fingers
Your idea of how to do this with Santa Claus standing in the way, his hands and pockets filled with goodies for the voters?
They may as well take over the House, for all the good the House leadership is doing us now
(alas)
Absolutely, and John Boehner will proudly lead the GOP into the minority where he can sit back in his cushy chair and fulfill the roll as the token opposition.
The difference is that this year Obama’s scandals (and the economy) are real problems that effect real people—and they are not happy about that.
In 1998, the problems (impeachment, Monica Lewinski) were personal to the President (and so did not affect) most people personally.
God forbid, unless you want ALL that Obama had planned for the nation!??
The democrats drove their base out of the party from 1968-72.
Romney got more votes than McCain, and Obama received fewer votes than in 2008, but he still beat Romney by 5m votes. 2008’s victory margin was 9.5m votes. Romney lost the mid-western union vote because of his anti-automaker* bailout stance, his remarks about firing people and the general sense that he was an out-of-touch plutocrat. If Romney had $3m instead of $300m, he might have had a chance.

* In the 80’s, Reagan responded to the impending failure of the automakers by imposing trade barriers. This was the winner of 44 states in the 1980 election. Romney, a charmless nobody in politics, wanted to flush domestic automakers down the drain. It’s kind of amusing how Romney, a repeated failure in electoral politics, repeatedly alienated important voting blocs, while Reagan went out of his way to bring them on board.
2DV, you are one of my favorite posters here...and I agree with you that things aren’t kosher in Republican party politics.
But honestly, I really do believe that there IS a difference between the parties.
The federal government’s spending is being sequestered...a very small amount, to be sure, but the deficit, while still too big is NOT the number it would be if we had a Democrat congress.
The most unpopular legislation in history, Obamacare, has been repealed or pushed back numerous times by the House...and ignored by the Democrat Senate. There would be ZERO effort by a Democrat House to fix this terrible law.
Not every Republican governor has been the stalwart against Obama that I would have liked (see: Brewer, Christie) but governors like Jindal, Haley, Scott, and Kasich have done their best to deal with the monstrosity. Kasich, I know, did do some “compromising”, but he also is committed to resisting as much federal intrusion as possible.
My point is that full Democrat control gave us runaway spending, stimulus, Obamacare, the federal takeover of the student loan program, and a host of perverted liberal judges...and I really think we ought to do our best to keep them OUT of power.
Anyway, not an attack on you, just an observation. Both parties suck to a degree...but one sucks worse than the other. :) One is redeemable by conservatives, one is destined for the trash heap of history with the Maoists and Bolsheviks.
of course you are correct
it just feels so frustrating to watch
what appears to me
to be a pretty decent man (Boehner)
act so incredibly impotent up there
Otherwise known as ‘conservatives’.
Run a conservative next time.
Good question. Unfortunately, if the free money doesn't run out before 2016, Americans will very likely vote for more of it.

Well lets’ work to turn out to vote for more good guys, and push Boehner and others in the right direction!
