During the 2012 election cycle I occasionally ran stories declaring that various Republicans being touted as White House material will never be president. Sarah Palin after her narcissistic Gabby Giffords meltdown; Newt Gingrich early in his race-baiting campaign; Mitt Romney after his British Olympics screw-up.
I batted 1.000 for that cycle, but it was easy. In 2016, Republicans wont be facing a Democratic incumbent, so somebody has a shot. I recently wrote that New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie will never be president, due to his out-of-control anger issues, but candidly, I think thats my riskiest one yet.
I feel no risk in stating unequivocally that despite the delusions of his Senate staffers and supporters, who told the National Reviews Robert Costa that they expect him to run in 2016, far-right Texas Sen. Ted Cruz will never be president. Costa is a good reporter with excellent sources; its a good story. Im not doubting its veracity. So far hes been more circumspect about his 2016 plans than Rand Paul and Marco Rubio, which some people attributed to questions about his eligibility for the presidency (he was born in Canada but his mother was a U.S. citizen). The story states clearly that Cruzs legal advisers say hed have no problem with eligibility. So there are unlikely to be Cruz birthers; Democrats dont do xenophobia and racism quite like the far right, which loves Cruz.
And according to Costa, the Cruz boom isnt just delusion within his office, or on the outer fringe of the Tea Party. If you dont think this is real, then youre not paying attention, an unnamed Republican insider told Costa. Cruz already has grassroots on his side, and in this climate, thats all he may need.(continued)

“Democrats dont do xenophobia and racism quite like the far right,”
Oh, GAG me!
Salon sounds worried!
I'll see that prediction and raise you: A lot of FReepers who did support George W, McQueeg and Mittens (albeit reluctantly) will not support the GOP's nominees in the coming elections.
Good grief....don’t ever do that again. That picture made me throw up a little in the back of my mouth.

Joan, you poor, ignorant, uneducated slob; please do us all a favor and take this test (you’ll LIKE it—it was put together by a BLACK WOMAN!):

(I know you’ll fail. Just like ALL liberals.)
Oh, Joan. I have consistently demonstrated to all my refugee friends over the years that in the United States the biggest, most intolerant racists and control freaks are leftists, most of them Democrats. There are NO haters like leftist haters. Hey, Joan, the Pew Foundation did a study of Republicans and Democrats. Guess which group was the better informed, better educated, more intelligent, more successful? Republicans.
joan walsh will never be President. There, I said it.
Joan Walsh: First Daughters Off Limits (Unless They’re Named Bush)
by JOHN SEXTON 26 Mar 2013
Today Joan Walsh posted an attack on our own Matt Boyle. She complained he had violated an unwritten rule of journalism by revealing the President’s daughters were vacationing in the Bahamas. Joan explained “Reporters dont write about minor first children except when theyre attending ‘official or semi-official events.’” She also quotes a Washington Post reporter on the point:
Theres a general feeling among the press corps that it wants to be respectful of the presidents children, said Caren Bohan, the White House reporter for Reuters who is president of the WHCA.
Joan admits that this standard can sometimes be violated. Indeed, she had to allow some wiggle room since Salon published a story about the Obama daughter’s trip to Mexico after it was interrupted by an earthquake. That aside, Joan goes on to castigate Boyle and indeed everyone who works for Breitbart News (or the Daily Caller) as racist haters. Her advice to conservatives who don’t want to appear racist is “Try treating his daughters with respect.”
Surprisingly, Walsh’s understanding of what constitutes respect was somewhat different during the Bush administration. In 2001 she wrote a piece for Salon titled “The First Family’s Alcohol Troubles.” The post uses reports of the first daughters partying and drinking as a pretext to attack their father’s drinking history. The piece is illustrated with a large photo of Jenna Bush laughing. It’s not clear where the photo was taken but in context it’s clearly an attempt to depict Jenna Bush as drunk. Joan wrote:
Theres no evidence either twin has a drinking problem, but the string of news items involving their partying and scrapes with the law in the last few months cant be ignored. First came the tale of Secret Service agents ferrying home Jennas boyfriend after he was arrested for public drunkenness. Then there were randy National Enquirer photos of Jenna, a University of Texas freshman, and a beer-drinking pal, and a story about her alleged marijuana use. Yale freshman Barbara, supposedly the studious twin, had a false I.D. confiscated at a New Haven, Conn., bar. In April, the Enquirer featured a lurid tale of Barbaras drunken spring-break binge in Mexico, and by the end of the month all major newspapers were carrying a story about Jenna being cited by police at an Austin bar for underage drinking, while Secret Service agents waited outside.
For someone concerned about journalistic standards, Joan seems to have no problem repeating the contents of the National Enquirer for her own audience. Not to mention that she seems awfully familiar with their output.
After much bashing of President Bush, she concludes by psychoanalyzing the behavior of the First Daughters. They aren’t just young adults making poor decisions, they’re troubled girls “acting out” in an unanswered cry for help:
Id bet there hasnt been enough communication in the WASP-y Texas Bush family, and it looks as if the first twins are acting out as a result. Even with a Secret Service detail, there are ways for young women to party, if theyre discreet. Clearly, the first twins arent. Their blatant risk-taking and public partying (the Secret Service waits outside the bars where they drink illegally?) seem designed to force a family reckoning that their fathers drinking never triggered.
Is this what respect looks like?
Via Mediaite:
Salon editor and MSNBC contributor Joan Walsh joined Joy Behar on Current TV tonight to discuss, among other things, Vice President Joe Bidens speech at a memorial service yesterday for the MIT police officer killed by the Boston bombing suspects.
As Behar put it, the comment that has set the teeth on edge in conservative circles was Bidens term knock-off jihadis to describe the terror suspects. She asked Walsh what about that phrase was getting under Republicans skins.
They really want this to be all about terrorism, Walsh said, and all about terrorism that Obama missed. And all about terrorism that he missed because hes a secret Muslim. She said that was the wrong narrative and Joe Biden has the right narrative.
Theres an element of Islamic radicalism, we cant ignore that, she continued, but theres also an element of being idiots, and being products of a certain kind of American alienation, too. Walshs explanation of Bidens point is unlikely to sway many of his conservative critics, given her suggestion that American culture could have played as big of a role in the suspects motivation as Islamic culture did.
Walsh, who grew up in a working class Irish Catholic family, says the white middle class needs to understand that decisions made by the government have helped its rise.
“There is this notion that ‘slackers’ and ‘moochers’ took your taxpayer dollars, which is a somewhat racial notion,” she said. “But some of those so-called ‘slackers’ and ‘moochers’ are white people. ... White people are the majority of people on food stamps.”

sounds like fear speaking
Almost everyone in this country grew up in a working class or lower middle class family. What’s their point?
