America Needs Its Own Thatcher

The tributes to Margaret Thatcher in this country upon her passing were nice. But what America really needs is its own Margaret Thatcher.

In Republican circles there’s great nostalgia for Ronald Reagan. Thatcher is seen as sort of Reagan’s sidekick, an ally in promoting democratic capitalism and taking a firm stance against Soviet expansionism. Not to diminish Reagan, who transformed American politics in ways that reverberate today, Thatcher actually had the tougher task.

Reagan had to restore the health of the American economy, which was plagued by high inflation and sluggish growth. But he had some fiscal headroom within which to operate. When Reagan became president, federal debt was just 33 percent of GDP. So, Reagan could cut tax rates without having to cut spending as well. The combination of supporting Fed Chairman Paul Volcker’s monetary tightening and the rate reductions got the economy moving again and on a healthy platform of sound money and a growth-oriented tax structure.

Reagan had ambitions to rein in federal spending and reform the federal government by devolving certain functions, principally welfare, to the states. He failed. But he didn’t have to succeed on all fronts to succeed on any....

Oh there are many of us that see her.

Gov. Palin is the most powerful true Conservative leader that we have today. Just by being herself. She, like us don’t need no stinkin Focus groups.

Sarah, like us is not a follower. We are thinkers and we see what’s coming if we will not act. And see the greatness we could be also. America is still there. We may just have to shake her harder to wake up in time.

Ann is inestimable, brilliant....she calls it like she sees it.... SIMPLE SAMMY tells us Ann and Sarah are vying to be the 'darling of the conservatives'...BROTHER...that's stupid even for a lib. Ann's so far beyond caring about being anybody's darling that it's too funny. With her cred...8 best sellers, law review at Michigan and the resulting millions she's made, render Ann bulletproof. Both Ann and Sarah are stunners, the best America has to offer. The libs have no one even close to either. I hope Sarah comes roaring back like the tigress she is and achieves Ann's status and popularity...THE BARRACUDA already has in my eyes...one reading of Going ROGUE attests to that. BOTH THESE TWO ARE OUTSTANDING AMERICAN ORIGINALS. Anyone who thinks differently is off the charts nuts...THEY DON'T COME ANY BETTER. I just did a Google search and my suspicion was confirmed ...Thatcher was NOT pro Life or even pro family,perhaps not even Christian...God forbid

No question that Sarah Palin would be up to the job in every way. Whether the American electorate is up to choosing her is the question. And it is increasingly clear that the GOP is too corrupt to choose a strong, honest, intelligent, incorruptible leader like Sarah. They prefer their pork and perks and have completely abandoned the principles they once stood for.

Well, it took extraordinary circumstances to get Maggie Thatcher into office, and the Conservative Party kicked her back out as soon as they could. Still, she put England back on its feet and played her part in ending the Cold War.
