Romney campaign releases ads for 8 battleground states (CO, FL, IA, NV, NH, NC, OH, and VA)

Less than an hour after President Barack Obama had stepped off of the Democratic National Convention stage, Republican challenger Mitt Romney's campaign announced 15 new, state-specific television advertisements which the campaign says will run in 8 battlegrounds.

A week ago, Romney was officially made the Republican Party's presidential nominee, granting him access to a substantial war chest set aside for the general election. His campaign largely stayed off of television during the Democratic National Convention, which concluded after Obama's speech on Thursday.

Now that Romney has officially been named the GOP nominee his campaign will get its hands on tens of millions of dollars that could only be tapped for the general election part of the campaign.

The spots will air in the eight battleground states of Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Nevada, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Ohio, and Virginia, the campaign said. Each is rated a toss up on the CNN Electoral Map...

Watch for the PAC ads to do a lot of the hard hitting - like in the Republican primaries.

That's it, exactly. There are a couple things at work here. First, the Romney Campaign and RNC can't really communicate with - let alone direct - the SuperPACs. Second, because of the plausible deniability afforded by the no-communication rule, the SuperPACs can do a LOT of things that the campaigns cant.

So what's happening here is that the Romney Campaign is "broadcasting in the clear" to the SuperPACS, telling them where the Campaign is going to run ads so they can run the really viscious stuff where the Campaign isn't engaged.

I'd guess that the states where the Romney Campaign is running ads are leaners (according to the Campaign's internal polls), while ones like WI and MI are toss-ups or possibly Obama-leaners. In red-leaning states you want to run a mix of positive and moderately negative ads. It's in tossups and blue-leaners that you need the gloves to really come off.

Both sides, but our side is raising MUCH MORE money. Just one, run by Karl Rove, has about a BILLION DOLLARS in his coffers, IIRC.

Not necessarily. This is a $4.5M ad buy. Nowhere near all of the ads they'll buy.

Id trust them over Gallop any day of the week. I think Rasmussen is the most reliable polling group so far, unless there are others more reliable

Rasmussen is one of the best and is completely honest. If he's inaccurate it's because we have no data on which to model this unique election year. I like the model he is going with, but we won't know how close he is until people and Chicago's zombies actually vote. [Note: I am independent and do not work for Scott, never have.]

From what I read last night on Rasmussen, Romney is leading in ALL 11 battleground states by at least 4 points, thats including Wisconsin. Romney knows what the internal polls show, he will eventually put out ads in all battleground states I believe

As an update, Rasmussen has Romney leading in North Carolina (5 pt), Wisconsin (1 pt.), Iowa (2 pt), and Florida (2 pt); tied in Colorado, Virginia, and Ohio; and trailing in New Hampshire and Missouri (MO an Akin effect, which should fade). We are competitive, but we need to get conservatives to the polls to vote and as poll watchers, especially in these battleground states. Overconfidence and indifference could destroy America in November.

I read in USA Today, this morning, that Romney is not running ads in MI and PA. PA I understand but, Michigan???? His home state? Guess he’s conceding it to Obama.

Just saw a Clinton ad that looked pretty effective. Clinton’s telling us that Obama is just like him, for the middle class. More BS re: a “plan” etc.

Hope to God we’re not going to let that ride.

AMEN! We can talk about ads, and run ads, all day long, but if we don't turn out the vote in greater numbers than the Dems, we lose. I hope they spend all they need to spend on the GOTV effort in these 8 - 11 Battleground States.
