Convention speeches: Ann Romney vs. Chris Christie
Vanity | 8/28/2012 | The Rhinelander

The buzz is that Ann Romney's speech was off the charts and that Chris Christie's speech was moderately good but didn't have the red meat people wanted. I tend to disagree. Christie's speech was fantastic but in a much more subtle way. He showed the stark differences. Thoughts?

I think Chris Christie’s speech will be seen as more powerful as it sinks in what he really provided to the campaign.

Chris Christie, in the nicest, subtlest way possible, essentially made us see what a spineless President we have in office now.

Obama’s lack of spine, or, as Christie framed it, his penchant for choosing to be loved instead of respected, will have much more power with undecideds and independents than any “red meat” Chris could have thrown.

Christie said what had to be said, that getting out of this mess will not be painless, and it will take someone with spine to lead us out.

That’s exactly what I got out of Christie’s speech as well.

Hey, Newbie, welcome to FR. Only been here 4 1/2 months. Still haven’t figured things out, have you? Or did you think you were posting at the DUmp, as you’re normally doing?

As someone who was for Sarah Palin, then Herman Cain, then Newt Gingrich, and I even liked Rick Santorum over Romney, I’m beginning to think we may have gotten lucky to end up with Romney-Ryan.

Getting Obama out has trumped all other considerations for me.

I think the Ann Romney speech may be a game-breaker. She put me more at ease with Mitt Romney, no small task.

When she walked out on stage, I said to myself “Wow, she is so beautiful”. I felt it was critical that her speech would provide a great contrast to Michelle Obama. I think she accomplished much, much more than that.

Ann Romney’s words, actions, and tone on that stage provided a stark contrast with all liberal women, without a disparaging word. Ann Romney was at once a throwback, and a call to what the future could be for all women.

At first, I saw some giddiness, and some girlish laughter that I wasn’t sure I liked. Then, as the speech went on, I realized her femininity was becoming, refreshing, apropriate, and exciting to see on that stage.

Contrast the vibe you got from Ann Romney with the angry, women-as-victims tone from the women of the left. Then think of Hillary Clinton.

Get my drift?

If this speech was designed to get women out there to re-think their support for the Democratic Party as surrogate husband, then I think she may have gotten some converts. Therein lies the power in Ann Romney’s speech.

Facts are facts. Christie goes against the Catholic Church
teachings on abortion and homosexuality. Rick Perry endorsed instate tuitions for illegals, take that up with him, and he’s not Catholic. I agreed 100% with the Pope when he said the Iraq War was not a just war and I think it was started by another RINO by the name of George W. Bush. I agreed with going after training camps in Afganistan, but do not agree with the plan on staying in that catbox till hell freezes over. Catholics can have different opinions on some issues, but abortion and homosexual marriage are not one of them. This is where I defer with Christie, now you have a great day.

I forgot to mention rising GOP star Mia Love. Her opening speech was short but powerful. I’ve seen her speak and sent her money. She is going to be an important player in congress, I think.

“...how wrong you are to try to compare Catholicism to Mormonism in the Christian community.”

So, you didn’t read my post, I guess?

“apparently the Christie bashers are no longer able to convince people that he supports abortion”

Huh? If you think it’s OK to abort a child because of who the father is, you are for abortion. Pretty simple to understand.

Good choice.

"I know plenty about Mormonism, and even more about the ignorance, fear and bigotry all dressed up in the neat package that portrays itself as true Christianity when it is the farthest thing from it. You are a small minded bigot who believes that people who have a strong conviction and faith that differs from yours are not only mistaken but evil. I pity you for your mindless hatred. Shame on you!

"Hatred". "Bigot". Now conservatives, in their quest to justify support of Romney, have become just like liberals in screeching that any difference of opinion is hatred or bigotry.

Has it really gotten to the point where conservatives need to keep explaining to other conservatives that being a Christian means calling false religions exactly what they are? I don't know if you're a Christian or not, but if you are, you might do well to go read about the Apostle Paul's sermon on Mars Hill. He didn't compromise when it came to calling out heresy. Or maybe he was a hater and a bigot, too, huh?

Have seen examples of this in another post on the forum. Example, he paid for the education of a deceased friends children.
***********************
Then, there’s the item I read some time back on FR and heard about on talk radio: He owned some rental houses and contacted a married couple that had been faithful renters for many years to ask if they’d like to buy the house. They said yes, but due to their credit status they would be unable to obtain a mortgage loan.

Mitt called them back and said he would personally give them a $50,000 loan to allow them to buy the modest house.

Possibly the Super Pac will start to get some of this out.

Would be a good counterbalance to the “ you killed my wife” ads

How quaint, to pretend that you are opposing the religion of MormonISM while all the while working your little fingers off to try and prevent Romeny, a Mormon adherent, from getting elected. I think there's a word for that sort of deceit ...

Actually, there’s a term for you, and it’s “drama queen.”

I don’t care who votes for “Romeny”. I’ve done a good bit of internal back and forth on the subject myself, and there’s hardly a day that my husband and I haven’t discussed the pros and cons of it. But if you think I’m going to be bullied into calling Mormonism a legitimate Christian faith, you are very much mistaken.

You really should keep up, sweetie. Some of the usual tried to use the same approach, accusing me of perhaps having been converted to an adherent of the religion known as MormonISM. If that’s the best you can think of to insult someone, it belies your deeper knwledge that I am opposed to MormonISM, yet you tried such foolishness. ... And drama queen is what you’re showing yourself to be, so it’s not surprising that you would try to accuse me of that persona ... I think they call it projection?

Why do you think I’m trying to insult you? Are you projecting?

I have no animosity toward you. If you have any for me, that’s your thing, not mine. But you’re over the top with the breathless accusations and the devious motivations. That’s pretty drama queen-like to me.
