After tonight, Newt Gingrich has to be considered finished. You don't get to be the nominee if you don't win primaries, and if Gingrich can't win Alabama and Mississippi, it's hard to imagine any other state in the country where he can win.
While Gingrich may remain some kind of factor, in almost every remaining state, this race devolves to a Romney-Santorum battle.
That's great news for Santorum, who has been hoping and yearning for a two-man race.
It's acceptable news for Romney, who knows that party donors and insiders dread a Santorum candidacy as likely to lead to a 300+ electoral vote Obama blow-out.
And it raises this question for Republican party conservatives: Is Rick Santorum really the place where they want to place their hopes?
The Santorum candidacy pushes Republicans toward an election in which the issues are religious, cultural, and sexual, not economic. It's a candidacy that pushes the party away from metropolitan areas, away from areas of growing population, and rebases the party everywhere that is not dynamic, not growing. The concerns of hard-pressed America are deeply worthy of attention and respect. They call for responses and solutions. That's not what a Santorum candidacy offers. (As we've seen with the Santorum proposals to spur manufacturing with one single change in tax law, this is not a policy-serious campaign.) Instead, a Santorum candidacy offers an airing of resentments and grievances. Is that really where party conservatives want to go?
The media will make sure this is what happens.

The republican party doesn’t belong to conservatives so Frum’s comment has no real meaning beyond what it is. An attempt to manipulate conservatives to vote the way he thinks they should.
If this nit wit loser Frum is spinning off his axis over Santorum, that is just one more reason I like him. Frums a joke.
Yeah. When your enemy offers you advice, he hopes you'll be stupid enough to take it. The Democrats are hoping to run against Mitt Romney so they can enjoy total immunity for ObamaCare. The idea of a GOP nominee who rallies the Conservative base with plain talk about Freedom and Values and the outright repeal of ObamaCare scares them to death. Sadly, it also scares the elites of Socialist Party B, the Republican Party.
Santorum will help.
He’s counting on the pro-life vote to see him through.
They keep trying to herd us like we are cattle; at this point though we are many we are more like cats...
Cattle once you get them going in the right direction don’t take much- they follow the leader.
Cats, on the other hand cannot be herded.
Romneybot Frum dismisses Gingrich. Which explains why Gingrich must stay in the race. If Gingrich is out, Romney will have the nomination wrapped up.
David Frum is NO conservative. The Establishment always want a moderate to run. Enuf of Doles, Bushes, and McCains.
The only reason Gingrich is even in this race is to siphon off votes from Santorum. Seriously, you gotta know that Romney is paying Gingrich to stay in the race.
“Sadly, it also scares the elites of Socialist Party B, the Republican Party.”
Hooo! wooo! wooo! Be afraid Rove...
Go Vesty.
Rick for CIC!
Well somebody gets it. I have been saying this ever since he won the 3 nothing states that nobody else competed in. I have never understood how any thinking person could vote for this empty suit. He comes across like a whiny sanctimonious 5th grader. There was one true accomplished adult conservative in the race who could articulate the issues and the supposedly conservative base turned their backs on him to support a born again charismatic holier than thou Catholic (and yes I am a pro-life Catholic) with a big government establishment voting record.
Pray for a brokered convention.
In the case of this conservative, yes.
Fluke you Frum.
“Hooo! wooo! wooo! Be afraid Rove...” add verbrato between the ‘o’s.
"So tell me how Santorum had anything to do with the '10 PA Senate election? Reagan supported former Rat Specter before Santorum did. Should we blame him as well for the party switch even though he wasn't around either?" -- Thanks Lazlo in PA
Daid? What an unusual name for a man. Sounds either Irish or Welsh.

If Frum says, `Ja’ I say `Nay.’
Captain Rom needs conservative galley slaves so he can water-ski?
He can get the National Review, Weekly Standard and Wall Street Journal to row, & Skeletor Ann can lead the cheers.
Conservatives: No Mama, no Papa, no Party, no Uncle Sam.
“Comments?”
Get on board the Love Boat with Captain Frum?
Hey, Dave—you !*#%ing “crunchy con”—you can kiss the only part of my *** that isn’t white!
I’d better stop now before I say what I’m really thinking.
