Mitt Romney, during campaign stops in Michigan yesterday, embraced his Michigan roots for all theyre worth. As he watches his popularity plummet in the state in which he grew up, he seems to be grasping at anything to keep from sinking any further.
Romney tried to hit all the right buttons in order to resonate with Michigan voters leading up to their February 28 primary, by making himself one of them again. I was born and raised here. I love being in Michigan, Mr. Romney said. Everything seems right here. You know, I come back to Michigan; the trees are the right height. The grass is the right color for this time of year, kind of a brownish-greenish sort of thing. It just feels right.
As if those bizarre references werent enough to make one scratch their head, the candidate went on to further befuddle his audiences by offering up a paean to the states Great Lakes.
I like seeing the lakes. I love the lakes. Theres something very special here. The Great Lakes, but also all the little inland lakes that dot the parts of Michigan.

“....And the trees are all kept equal. By hatchet, axe and saw.”
In Michigan, our dogs ride inside the car.
“I talk to the trees.... but they don’t listen to me...”
Do they mate them with black angus steers?
Please freepmail me if you wish to be added or dropped from the mitten ping.
LOL

Dissing sharks?
Let’s just say I have a real healthy respect for them!

“What a maroon.”
Bugs Bunny for Prez!
“Why has Spot stopped barking?”
LOL, that’s just mean!
Spot is mesmerized by the trees don’tcha know?
Oh my goodness it is true, FREEPERS KNOW EVERYTHING!
The stupid bastard doesn't know anything about the state, much less it's trees.
They say he is from Michigan. What city?
Bloomfield Hills (surprise, surprise).....not exactly a working-class community.
——The LDS programming only goes so far. Perhaps he needs a ROM upgrade.——
He is one deeply strange guy.
I get the feeling that he is so accustomed to putting on whatever front he thinks other people want to see, that he’s forgotten what he’s hiding.
Was this a SNL skit? Please say yes! Nobody can be this stupid! Not even obamma!
I'm anything but a Romney defender, but I actually see his point about the trees.
I'm a Michigan native. I've visited most of the lower-48 states and either lived, worked, or spent extended periods of time in Missouri, Iowa, New Mexico, New York, Texas, Illinois, and (sorry to say) Massachusetts.
Compared to most of those states, Michigan has so much fresh water and rainfall that its trees grow taller than many other states. That was one of the big things my wife liked about Michigan — she complained about the stunted bush-like trees in many other places where we've lived or traveled.
Now if the rest of what Romney says could be made to make sense, I'd be happier, but the tree comment is one of the few things he says to which I can relate.
He reminds me of Carry more and more every day.
“Kin I git me a huntin’ license heyah?”
