Gov. Perry's remarks were made in response to a question from a panelist who quoted John McCain's defense of Obama during the 2008 election and then asked Gov. Perry if he agreed with McCain.
I don't have Gov. Perry's full quote yet but will post it when I do.
Gov Perry was correct on all counts when he said that.

Sen. John McCain’s comments were in a more recent OpEd where he said about Obama:
““I disagree with many of the president’s policies, but I believe he is a patriot sincerely intent on using his time in office to advance our country’s cause. I reject accusations that his policies and beliefs make him unworthy to lead America or opposed to its founding ideals.”

Regardless, half of Republicans don’t know what ‘socialist’ means...so I don’t think stating it will help much.
What else are you supposed to call a socialist? Perry was just telling it like it is.

But how is this legal plunder to be identified? Quite simply. See if the law takes from some persons what belongs to them, and gives it to other persons to whom it does not belong. See if the law benefits one citizen at the expense of another by doing what the citizen himself cannot do without committing a crime.
Then abolish this law without delay, for it is not only an evil itself, but also it is a fertile source for further evils because it invites reprisals. If such a law — which may be an isolated case — is not abolished immediately, it will spread, multiply, and develop into a system.
Above all, if you wish to be strong, begin by rooting out every particle of socialism that may have crept into your legislation. This will be no light task.

He calls it as he sees it.
Truer words have never been spoken.
What’s so sad is that being a socialist isn’t a bad thing to most Americans. Lack of education of what a socialist actually is and no exposure to what socialism has done to other countries makes this a moot point in a way.
Sorry. "Socialist" is only part of the truth..
Obama is a Marxist and has been since college. He is in place to diminish the United States, if not to ruin it. He is well underway in betraying us to our enemies in the Middle East and in South America. He continues to wreck the economy by not taking any real steps to re-ignite the economy. He continues to rampage against American business and the wealth generators and that only encourages them to move off-shore, losing more US jobs. Now he will withdraw our military forces from the Middle East - 500,000 men and women - and they will add to the unemployment costs socially and economically. Obama is not a savior. He's not just a socialist. He is the personification of the islamic enemy. He is not a transformer; he's a destroyer.
Mr. Perry needs greater truth so the American people are not fooled again.
Mitt Romney is a socialist.
Barack Obama is a marxist.

I still can’t get over where we are. Our country is being destroyed, and last year we had the wonderful Tea Party response, the 2010 election rout, and the conviction that we would go forward with a solid conservative candidate for President.
Now, we have that solid conservative with a record of doing what the others say they will do, and the guts to unapologetically call that thing in the White House what it is. But Republicans are going, instead, for a lying, phony Massachusetts liberal abortion/homosexual lover, and a senile, crazy, anti-Semitic old nutcase.
Folks, wake up....Perry is the man we need for president.

On paper, meaning in theory, Obama is a socialist/Marxist, embracing collectivist authoritarian presumptions and solutions to the problems of modern society.
In practice, Obama very effectively serves the needs of many large corporate interests, funneling public money (via the federal government) into the hands of industries, unions, and individuals who support his methods, ideals, and policies.
It's the wonderful Third Way, an ostensible synthesis of socialism and capitalism, where we end up geting the "best" of both worlds...
Yes, most people don’t understand or disregard socialist. If he were a bit more articulate, he’d explain that Obomba calls himself a “progressive” but that is nowadays a euphemism for “communist” updated for the 21st century. That he is more of a communist than the late Boris Yeltsin was. Repeat this until the MSM is forced to explain. Educate the dumbies over the MSM talking heads.
