In openly embracing a more relaxed approach to immigration than many conservative activists, Newt Gingrich on Tuesday night stepped directly into one of the fiercest debates within the Republican Party.
The former House speaker, during the GOP presidential debate, tied his position to everything from law-and-order to family values to religion. But he still took a major political risk in suggesting that illegal aliens who have lived in the U.S. for a long time should not be deported.
"If you've been here 25 years and you've got three kids and two grandkids, you've been paying taxes and obeying the law, you belong to a local church, I don't think we're going to separate you from your family, uproot you forcefully and kick you out," Mr. Gingrich said, providing the debate's most striking moment.
The comment didn't reflect a new position for Mr. Gingrich. He supported a much-debated 1986 law that provided a path to citizenship and he sponsors a website, "The Americano," which looks at issues important to Hispanics....

I wonder how anyone can pay his taxes, and generally “keep his nose clean,” as the old saying goes, with a stolen identity or forged documents or collusion with an employer? One lie usually begets others.
His plan explicitly rules out deporting illegal alien law breakers (contrary to American law). Illegals will continue to feed fat off American taxpayers, vote illegally (since the Democrats continue to refuse to allow voter id laws to be passed in states they control), and continue to make sure that people like Nancy Pelosi and 0bama end up holding this country hostage to their far left agenda.
“Don't you feel better now that you know the truth and can stop lying?”
Perhaps you will let me know exactly where I said Newt Gingrich's plan provides a path to citizenship, yes?
“He has a plan”
A horrible, terrible, no good plan that spells doom for America
“but at least he has a plan”
and could flip flop on it at the drop of a hand, if the political winds change.
Pat Buchanan has gone over the cliff past Ron Paul and Lyndon LaRouche in the last decade.
It wasn’t a mistake and he didn’t take a chance. He did what Newt always does. He mentally goes off on unpredictable tangents. This is exactly what his former staff complained about. He is intelligent, but has no wisdom, common sense or judgement.
Because we left the back door unlocked doesn’t mean we can’t kick any thieves out of our house.
Mexico encourages its least educated, least skilled peasants to enter the United States illegally so that it won’t have yo be responsible for them.
You notice you don;t see doctors, dentists and engineers sneaking across the border?
Actually we do. Witness Venezuela.
But I understand your point
Yep. The Newties are running around defending him, and completely ignoring that he supports the vile and noxious federal “Dream Act”.
I never thought I’d see so many illegal alien defenders running rampant on FR. I’m disgusted.
Yeah, thats not racist at all...
Correct, Mr Pinhead!
Just in case you have been living on Pluto all this time, it happens to be FACT that well over 90% of blacks for example, voted for the Kenyan Marxist who currently occupies the White House, and regularly vote for the Democratic Party candidate, by an overwhelming margin, in any presidential elections. I know you liberals can't stand to face facts and usually have to resort to calling anyone who points out unpleasant facts to you as “racist”. Its not my fault if you live in cloud cuckoo-land is it?
I call 'em Newt zombies. The only part of their brain still functioning is the bite reflex.
Plus, God said something about it too: Leviticus 19:34 - New International Version (NIV)
34 The foreigner residing among you must be treated as your native-born. Love them as yourself, for you were foreigners in Egypt. I am the LORD your God.
And what of the passages of the Bible about obeying laws?
Doesn’t matter what anyone says, most of them are staying.
We need to round them up and bring them bus by bus to a island then they should all be shipped back by boat to their country. Start with the jails round them up and get the hell out.
This simply shows the superficiality of Newt’s camppaign. He’s glib, but then he comes up with these bone headed ideas that cannot possibly work in the real world.
That pretty much says it all!
