Palin Changes Race With Decision Not to Run
Fox News ^ | October 6, 2011 | Chris Stirewalt

"I will not create jobs or hold jobs that kill people, and that plant, that plant kills people.”

-- Then-Gov. Mitt Romney, quoted in today’s Wall Street Journal, speaking outside a Massachusetts coal-fired power plant in 2003.

Sarah Palin has said she is not running for president, and has rung the bell for round two of the GOP nomination fight.

With Palin staying out, there are no more what ifs to be considered. The only other Republican with the national name recognition and fundraising ability to even consider a run is Rudy Giuliani. And the social moderate from the Northeast could impair frontrunner Mitt Romney but not win the nomination himself.

There is no one else coming to the party and Palin’s message in announcing her decision was clear: It’s time for her fellow Republicans to get serious about the process. "There is not one perfect candidate," she said “On the Record with Greta Van Susteren.”

There were other signs that the decisive phase had begun before Palin’s announcement. Chris Christie said he was out… again. The ballot filing deadlines begin in less than two weeks. The new fundraising quarter is underway. The Obama campaign is sharpening its attacks.

The first nominating contest looks increasingly likely to be held in 86 days, but we now know that whatever specific dates Iowa and New Hampshire select, the polls will be open in about three months. (Note that rather than looking to cement his poll surge with early state voters, Herman Cain is on a nationwide book tour.)

in my view, she was runnin’ the whole year. She dropped out yesterday.

Why did she drop out? They gauged the amount of support they were able to generate and it was not enough. Too many republicans were dead against her and us Palin supporters did not change enough minds over the past 9 months.

And many of the people who are annoyed with her were sitting around waiting for her to run, instead of getting in gear. The Romneyites have been workin’ steady, while the conservatives are waiting for somebody to push the start button. Somebody please push it.

MITT WILL NOT BE THE NOMINEE.

Ain’t happenin’! Sit down and figure out what’s happening before throwing up the white flag. I’m leaving for NH on FRI morning for the weekend. No, I will not report back with my findings.

I’m highly suspicious of people who are gleeful that she’s said she’s not running. Especially those here at FR. I think they’ve missed how dire things are. They may gloat, but it’s a shallow victory. Sarah would have been awesome and accomplished so much for real conservatism and yet they’re gleeful over her not running. Hmmmmm.

I'm with you, more or less. I suspect she chose not to run in large part because she wanted to do the best for America and decided that she would not win if she ran, which would not help America (I was unsure how her numbers would change if she ran, and she may have made this based on accurate information that I don't have). I hope and pray that she also decided she could do more as a non-candidate than as an official candidate. If she's going out there to work for a conservative House and Senate landslide, we may all end up celebrating her decision. She mattered in 2012, and I'd love to see her do that again, and more. Let's pray for a Congress so patriotic that neither Obama nor Romney could hurt our country much more.

Palin would not even have the support of the GOP Establishment (the backstabbing scum that they are)

Just who the hell are you talking about? I see this repeated over and over here on FR but I have yet to have anyone be specific about these allegations.

It looks to me like the hard-core Palin supporters in FR have had just as much a hand in trying to destroy Perry as any pro-Romney "establishment" person. Like it or not, Perry is the only other candidate with the resources to stop Romney but FR has had a hand in protecting Romney.

For what it’s worth, I’m not happy one bit. Yet at the same time she has shown she is not up for it and not deserving of the support she got. Unqualified. She can cheer Bristol on with the reality show. Things are just great for her.

I don't think that is appropriate. Let's wait and see what she does with her time now that she's not running.

You cannot speak for all conservatives. I have a good friend who is very conservative who has said he may support Romney because of his private sector business experience. Can't argue with that.

Romney is far better than Ron Paul or Obama.

You've never had a good word to say about Sarah Palin and now you want us to jump on the Perry Bandwagon? Stuff it.

How I feel about Palin or Perry is not relevant. We have an election to win. We cannot afford to be petty, we need to THINK.

I’m supporting Herman Cain...and Allan West as VP (both tea party people!!)...................................... I too feel that way, but there is a major problem with those two, its called Leadership, and the voting public doesn’t recognize it when its right there in front of them. Leadership it seems doesn’t compare to Community Organizing. Besides if the Republican’s, the Party of Lincoln, ever ran two Black Americans, they would be called racists. I’ll wait and see if the Tea Party Rallies draws more blacks into the group. If it does, then I’ll know for sure that Cain can pull it off. Now without Palin, the MSM can use all their resources against Cain. So far they keep harping on the non court marshal of West ad nauseum as if its all that they have besides riding a motorcycle with a docile chapter of a renowned Motorcycle Club.

Now the race has begun. Until now the candidates were just doing warmup laps.

Interview this morning on Bob & Mark radio program:

http://barbaricthoughts.com/2011/10/video-palin-on-her-decision-not-to-run-on-the-bob-and-mark-show/

Said she came close to saying ‘yes’ until the last few days.

Two of the kids said ‘no’ to her running. I’m sure it was Track and Willow.

Then his ideology is not founded purely in Conservatism... it is founded in profit. Nothing wrong with profit... I personally love making profit... but profit in and of itself is not an ideology. I speak for myself and legions like me... and we are many. Nominate romney and you will find out... try to promote romney on Free Republic and Jim will do what he has warned that he will do.

My friend cares about those who are unemployed and his reason for supporting Romney is because he believes that because of Romney’s success in private business and turning around the Olympics, Romney has shown he has the savvy to create a climate where business can flourish and create jobs.

Onyx...if you still have that 'ping' list; you might want to bring it to their attention. Governor Palin apparently made her decision a few days ago...her children NIXED the idea of running for President. She put concern for her children instead of the presidency?

Good for her.

If this proves to be true; my contempt for the media just increased expotentially.
