Palin Changes Race With Decision Not to Run
Fox News ^ | October 6, 2011 | Chris Stirewalt

Posted on 10/06/2011 7:49:23 AM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

"I will not create jobs or hold jobs that kill people, and that plant, that plant kills people.”

-- Then-Gov. Mitt Romney, quoted in today’s Wall Street Journal, speaking outside a Massachusetts coal-fired power plant in 2003.

Sarah Palin has said she is not running for president, and has rung the bell for round two of the GOP nomination fight.

With Palin staying out, there are no more what ifs to be considered. The only other Republican with the national name recognition and fundraising ability to even consider a run is Rudy Giuliani. And the social moderate from the Northeast could impair frontrunner Mitt Romney but not win the nomination himself.

There is no one else coming to the party and Palin’s message in announcing her decision was clear: It’s time for her fellow Republicans to get serious about the process. "There is not one perfect candidate," she said “On the Record with Greta Van Susteren.”

There were other signs that the decisive phase had begun before Palin’s announcement. Chris Christie said he was out… again. The ballot filing deadlines begin in less than two weeks. The new fundraising quarter is underway. The Obama campaign is sharpening its attacks.

The first nominating contest looks increasingly likely to be held in 86 days, but we now know that whatever specific dates Iowa and New Hampshire select, the polls will be open in about three months. (Note that rather than looking to cement his poll surge with early state voters, Herman Cain is on a nationwide book tour.)

This comes as no surprise. She never built the infrastructure and was not fundraising. It has been obvious for months that she did not intend to run.

With Sarah Palin out of the picture Mitt Romney will be the Republican Party nominee. Just like our RNC overloads picked Juan McCain. Hope you people are happy.

I believe that in the next several weeks of polling Herman Cain will be the clear frontrunner. Yes he IS on a book tour. It won’t matter.

It’s going to be Cain or Romney. Please vote accordingly.

I don’t see how Romney has remained relatively unscathed to this point. This guy could be Obama’s clone in healthcare, energy policy etc.

It’s going to take some deep pockets to expose the Myth during the primaries and unless some well funded conservative PAC steps up it won’t happen. The only other entity/individual who who has the resources to do so on a national scale would be Perry. With Palin’s decision yesterday there doesn’t appear to be a lot of roadblocks out there.

It’s disappointing, as I believe her brand of conservatism to be head-and-shoulders preferable to all the other nominees combined, but I’m also surprisingly content with her decision.

Mainly because of the reality of the situation with the media, which would just be non-stop lies and smears, every single day on every single network, making a truly insurmountable obstacle. As I mentioned in a thread last night, with the whole country and its economy in sharp decline, and all the social discord coming our way, the media would have channeled all that hatred and anger right onto her. Bet on it. It’s a poisonous, poisonous environment, and it’s going to get worse. Palin would not even have the support of the GOP Establishment (the backstabbing scum that they are). All in all, it would be a recipe for pure, unadulterated Hell.

I’m sure she could see this. I truly think she wanted to run and had even decided for a while to run. But the scenario is just way too grim, if not suicidal. I think it’s ultimately the correct move on her part, and I still support her 100%.

You’re right it doesn’t natter because:
Yes, he IS on a book tour, but what is the difference between a campaign book tour and campaigning? He has had face time on nearly every show on TV morning, noon, and night, and been interviewed by radio talkshow hosts from coast to coast. He has attended luncheons and meetings. He has spoken to the press and the people. People are learning who Herman Cain really is and where he came from. I’d say it looks very MUCH like he is campaigning.

Milt has a polling ceiling. He just doesn't break through it. There is every opportunity for Cain to make big gains or for Perry to somehow rehabilitate himself. Romney is far from a lock.

I’m highly suspicious of people who are gleeful that she’s said she’s not running. Especially those here at FR. I think they’ve missed how dire things are. They may gloat, but it’s a shallow victory. Sarah would have been awesome and accomplished so much for real conservatism and yet they’re gleeful over her not running. Hmmmmm.

Can we stop with this childish nonsense? If a candidate could be made, or destroyed, but what is said on Free Republic 0, Romney and Paul would be finished.

This is just a remarkably ignorant comment for the Perry supporters to be spamming this board with

PS
With Sarah out of the running, I am going to do my darndest to help him win. I noticed it hadn’t even been 12 hours since Sarah’s announcement before the perry contingent had three anti-Cain smear articles up.
I didn’t post to any of them, but they were shameful and shameless.

Yes. Just ask charlie crist, kay bailey hutchison, bill mccullum and the rest of the primary losers in 2010. The party has influence but does not control the outcome. At this point, if Romney wins it is because no one else steps up into the roll. He is the callback if no one else performs. He is far from inevitable.

Bleak picture in that you are admitting the media can just get away with it. Palin was intimidated. She clearly was never up for a fight.

For what it’s worth, I’m not happy one bit. Yet at the same time she has shown she is not up for it and not deserving of the support she got. Unqualified. She can cheer Bristol on with the reality show. Things are just great for her.

If he does get the nomination... he will do it without my support, time or money... and if he wins the election... romney will do it without my vote or the votes of my family. I stated this 4 years ago and I am sticking to my guns. I will no longer accept the overlord rule of a bunch of people that I despise as much as I do dims. romney had better sell everything he has because the grass roots will never be there for him and he will not see any funds from the base Conservatives.

They are desperate, even with his impressive money haul the other day. You can have all of the money in the world but if you cannot speak coherently or advance your policies without insulting the electorate, then it doesn’t matter.

I have tried to give Palin supporters time to absorb what has happened and not get crass in going after you folks’ support. I believe that Herman Cain is the natural “next up” on any conservatives’ roster and it shouldn’t take posting smear articles about other candidates in order to get her fans to see that.

Perry lost me with his progressively worse debates. I will treat his supporters, when he bows out, with the same level of politeness that I have tried to employ with Sarahs’ supporters because I think their feelings will be hurt more by his loss of support to Cain. I realize with him being to the left of Sarah that some of his support will naturally go to Romney. Thats’ fine.

I feel that most of it will come to Cain. Romney could have a billion dollars and it won’t matter if no conservatives trust him.

I DO believe that Mitt Romney will be in the next administration however, either as Veep or at treasury.....possibly Commerce.
