It was a play on words, was clearly intentional and worked only in a spoken context, so I don’t think the media can say much of anything.

I’m not a big Palin supporter because I have never thought she was really committed to running and I’m still not sure she is. If she had stayed as governor of Alaska, I’d feel more confident, but she seems to take up things and then drop them.

However, she has some great ideas, and what she needs to do is to prove that she’s really committed to promoting them and that she can work within the GOP and not set up a 3rd party.

If she had stayed as governor of Alaska, she'd have HAD to declare personal bankruptcy, and her act of staying WOULD have cost the State of Alaska many millions of dollars as the people in her administration had to do their part in defending the frivolous ethics charged Democrats leveled against her.

Had she stayed, right now you'd probably be saying:

"I'm not a big Palin supporter because I have never thought she was really capable of handling the fiduciary responsiblities that go with the office. If she'd managed to get through her term without having to declare bankruptsy and costing the state millions because of ethics charges made against her, I'd feel more confident, but she seems to be unable to avoide bankruptcy and costing her own administration millions."

I know it was a play on words - we all know how the media will snatch up even crumbs like this to try and make her look like a goofball.

As to: “but she seems to take up things and then drop them.”, other than resigning as Gov. I am not aware of her dropping anything else.

As to why she did that, she needs to be strong on messaging about why. It’s not enough to say “it’s in the book” (Todd did that) but to clearly explain.

The fact is simple. There were so many bulls**t lawsuits and actions filed against her that were costing the state itself a ton of money. Taxpayer money. The cost to the state from the Gov. staff having to focus time addressing that junk, and not strictly the business of the state, was also an issue. That is so super simple to understand.

Haters like to pretend that she quit just to make money - but she could have done that while in office. Haters like to ignore that the baseless suits were on target to bankrupt her family. Remember that Sarah absolutely KNEW those were baseless, and that has been proven now. So, she had NO moral obligation to protect her family? From utter financial ruin? She had no moral duty to take the controversy that was constructed out of whole lies, and the tremendous costs, the distractions, and the negative discourse, out of the office of Gov.?

I don’t like one bit that she was placed in that position, and was forced to make the only choice that a moral person could make, but she has been vindicated. They never found a dam* thing on her, though she now carries this single black mark on her record. How many of us would have done differently?

She has proven that she did not leave out of cowardice, nor from shame. She has proven that many times over.

The corner the DNC operatives and deputy demons thought they had penned her into with ludicrous law suits as governor of Alaska is well documented. If she had remained in office her State would have suffered along with her own family. And the huge, and to the professional political and chattering classes inexplicable, swath she has hewed since resigning as governor would never have been cut. So, overall and from as close to an objective point of view as I can manage, that risk she took has paid off handsomely.

The media hang on her every word and crowds in the thousands line up for hours to see and hear her. Her name is probably second only to Obama's in numbers of media mentions and public recognition (much of it negative, I will freely admit, but how is #1 looking these days?) Her image to the public at large is a flimsy construct of lies and ridicule that must be overcome. But think back, if you were there, to how an even more monopolistic and powerful national media portrayed Reagan.

For me the truly interesting aspect of this speech (an announcement of candidacy in all but title) is how the Populist theme creates separation for her from every single current or likely future candidate (with the sole exception of Herman Cain) within and without her party. Her avowed enemies (and ours) are the political class, the media, and the manipulators on Wall Street. No wonder she scares the living s*** out of them all.
