He’s far more conservative than Romney. And he can take the election over Obama.

So what’s the problem?

Perry's not my first choice and I won't vote for him in the primary, but if he wins it I can easily and enthusiastically support him.

He isn't perfect, but he is on the right side of almost every big issue I care about.

When did we start to believe anything aired by CBS?

Perry gives me the creeps. I sense from him a slippery, sneaky, uneasy energy from him. I felt the same thing many years ago when I first saw Bill Clinton on TV as one of about 6 possible candidates.

At the time I also emphatically declared, “That guy’s a snake! Never will the American people elect Bill Clinton.”

(I’m a good judge of character, but a bad judge of the electorate.)

I didnt find this article very convincing. For example, one of the proposed skeletons is that Perry was a RAT until 1989.

Hell, I was a RAT in 1989 myself. But today I am the polar opposite.

Texas is required to have a balanced budget.
A budget is passed every two years.

A lot of the budget is healthcare, which can be very unpredictable, especially due to the large illegal population.

Sales tax revenues have been way down due to the bad economy. Additionally we can’t predict the damage done by hurricanes and other natural disasters either.

As long as he makes the economy his priority, and reigning in the size of the Federal Government the centerpiece of his Administration, I’ll gladly ignore any possible social issues that some would have problems with.

To address the social ills of the US, we first must HAVE a US - and unless we solve the economic crisis barreling at us full-steam-ahead, we’re not going to have to worry about much other than the next meal, and trying to defend yourself and loved ones.

Good article. One of the rare times that the MSM has done its job. If we had reporting like this here in Texas, we would have disposed of Governor Perry years ago.

...but they’ve given him a free pass here. I guess, nationally, he’ll be called to answer for some the hair-brained schemes he’s imposed (or nearly imposed, or attempted to impose) on us.

Funny thing:

FreeRepublic seems to regard conservative blogs and Webzines as their personal enemies, even when they want to cooperate with FR and promote it... CBS draws research from from conservative blogs... FreeRepublic plays up CBS and gives them advertising revenue.

Anyone want to ‘splain-it-to-me?

(Pinging the GulagBound ping list.)

Also pinging the one who seems to be FR’s resident thug in chief, humblegunner.

I did not see anything new in the coverage of the skeletons in his closet.

My perspective is a bit different than most people concerning Governor “Rick”.

I have never met Rick, but I know his parents. They have lived here in Haskell County a long time. His family like my family were here for generations (my ancestors came to this county in 1889)

He is a few years younger than I am. He grew up in Paint Creek and I grew up in Rule (15 miles apart). I am not sure what hospital he was born in, but suspect it is the same one I was.

Rick is NOT a leftie. Yes, he was a Dem. (I have never been) But you must understand why Texas was 100% Dem for 100+ years. A little thing called a Civil War and the problems with the Radical Republicans during Reconstruction.

Seems dumb to talk about that stuff, but I can assure you that it did happen and the wounds left deep scars.

The Republicans only became somewhat acceptable after the Lefties took total control of the Dem Party. Now Texas is solidly Republican and it is not about racism.

I could probably find dirt on Rick, if I wanted to, but I don’t. It seems much more important to fix the problems in DC and kick the Commie Bastards out of all public offices.

Geeze... and I thought FR was a discerning group... ? Perry has some big problems... so folks how about googling Guardasil and that pesky Executive Order and back dealing ... And much worse google the sordid decade long Shove it Down the Throats of Texas Voters against their will - TRANS TEXAS CORRIDOR... done totally against the will of the Texas Voter - obama style - all with the hopes of enormous kickbacks from CINTAS - this Spanish company contracted with secret details to build huge 1200 ft. wide roadway in Texas - Grabbing citizens land all along the way... Great Conservative Perry is...

Frankly there isn’t a single candidate running that fires on all cylinders. I will have to compromise no matter what, and I want the most conservative candidate I can get that can still beat Obama. If it’s Perry, I’ll vote for him.

At this point, if a dead mule were running against Obama, I’d vote for the mule. No sweat!
