I ask him to tell me the story that moved the women of southwest Iowa to tearsthe secret sign that got him to keep running.
Nineteen-ninety-nine is when my first granddaughter was born, he says. Her name is Celena. Cain was on a long trip and thought he might miss the birth, but he arrived at the hospital in the nick of time. As soon as I looked at [Celenas] face, he continues, the first thought that went through my mind was, What do I do to make this a better world?
I didnt know what that was going to mean, Bryan. I didnt know exactly what I was supposed to do. I didnt say then, I ought to run for president.
About a month ago, Cain was with his friend Joel, heading out on another grueling presidential-style exploratory jag. He was taking me to the airport to go do another meet-and-greet somewhere in Iowa or New Hampshire. I dont remember which one it was. And on the way to the airport, I said to my friend, Joel, have I lost my mind to think about running for president? Im tired! You should be taking me home!
Then, like a bolt from heaven, Cain got the sign. Five seconds later, he says, Celena sent me a text. Love you, Pa Pa. Youre awesome. Thats all it said. Five seconds later.
Thats when I told Joel, Take me on to the airport.
Yes and what did Glenn and his employee like in a bumper sticker? What was it? “Yes we CAIN!!” that was pretty darned neat. Hope it catches on.
Of course they can, remember Reagan and other candidates? Remember that Palin is an extraordinary campaigner, and was recognized as the most popular Governor in America while in office, she can overcome anti-conservative media, especially with a billion dollar campaign.
You mean check any random Rollins/Bachmann/Romney thread of the last two days, Bachmann ruined her campaign chances when she decided to go mau-mau against Palin for no reason.
With Sarah not having declared as of yet what kind of person who is confident enough in themselves and their skills and abilities to run for and hold the office of POTUS would wait around to hat in hand to see if another candidate is going to run or not?
Ill tell what kind the KIND that doesnt deserve the office. If you plan to run you run! And you give it all you have! A person who plans to hold the office of POTUS shouldn’t be waiting on no one!
I like him. I’m glad he’s in the race.
Yeah. Your right. There isn't anything like a GOP primary afoot or anything. I don't think anyone has ruined any chances for anything yet except for Newt. The majority of Conservative voters don't even know who Ed Rollins is and what he said. They are the ones who count in this Santorum, Bachmann, Palin and Cain battle.
Rollins is a Dick Morris wannabee with a big mouth and even bigger ego. Give him time. He will step in it again.
Truthfully, I must not know Bachmann well. Her hiring a guy like this perplexes me. Bachmann (I thought) was trying to convey an image of a Tea Party spokesman. Hiring Rollins will likely damage that image. Google him if you don't believe me. It seems this guy always finds controversy.
I'm intrigued by the politics of it but not really concerned about the outcome. I don't see a Congresswoman winning the Presidency given the history of Presidential elections. I don't see Cain or Santorum winning either. Of the three, I would give the best chance, small as it may be, to Santorum.
What do I know? Maybe history no longer applies? I would have bet the house that Obama wouldn't win either.
Bachmann hiring Rollins to go on the war path against Palin has caused Bachmann irreparable damage among conservatives, and benefit to Mitt Romney.
I can see why if when someone looks at a Cain thread there are a series of attacks on Palin supporters already posted.
No, Sarah Palin is not a personality cult. Sarah Palin is a politician, pundit, kingmaker, etc. Palin's personality cult is entirely separate from Sarah Palin, and I don't consider her to be responsible for it.
What you think of someone believing that their little known choice will go from never having been elected to anything, straight to President of the United States?
I think that describes a perfectly normal, healthy, political partisan. If all you see on the Palin FR threads is perfectly normal, healthy political partisanship, then I guess I see something you do not.
To me, conservative government is the gold ring, and politicians are just the help we hire to obtain it. I may respect the hired help -- I certainly respect Sarah Palin and would support her candidacy -- but that about ends it for me.
You missed the point, Palin is a natural front runner for 2012 just by resume, and being our veep candidate last time, throw in that she is the most effective, charismatic conservative next to Reagan that we have ever seen, and that the media seems unable to defeat, then she naturally has a huge enthusiastic base among Republican voters and conservatives, that means using personality cult to describe her supporters, is stupid.
Now devotees of a man that has never won an election, yet aspires to start by winning the Presidency first, well his dedicated supporters could be insultingly called members of a “personality cult” with some level of justification.
Nothing benefits Myth. Conservatives will never vote for him no matter what. For that matter, most sensible people won't vote for him as things progress.
Romney's Cruel Canine Vacation
Do I really have to explain to you that I do not believe that all Sarah's supporters are members of her personality cult, after I included myself among her supporters?
Apparently so. No reason to continue this. Good night.
Before Cain entered the race I was a supporter of Palin, the more I learned about Cain and heard Cain, the more I grew to love Cain and he has overshadowed Palin in my mind.
I like both but i like Cain more than Palin.
I am well aware of Walking Around Money Rollins. I find him an amusing and harmless loud mouth. You may be right that he is the kiss of death to Bachmann, but I am reserving judgement right now.
I think Cain is looking good as time goes on and he sure is getting a lot of attention. It may help his profile as time goes on. I also like Santorum, even though I get flamed every time I bring up his name on threads. He was on Rush today and was very inspiring and has a fantastic grasp of Foreign Policy. It may be popular soon to be strong on that over the economy since Drudge just headlined that we are in war number 4 now.
I am just happy that we have more than one Conservative running this election cycle. When was the last time we had more than one Conservative running?
Attacking his only real opposition helps Mitt, Bachmann should have directed the nasty attacks against Romney if she is going to run a nasty, Ed Rollins campaign.
I'm hearing a lot of this and just keep wondering, what Sarah has over Herman? Is it personally just loyalty to her, or what?
There will be many, many good GOP candidates up there (mixed in with (spit!) RINOS.
Somehow I think Herman Cain is going to stand out and have some real zingers (as well as common sense solutions) in the context of that debate. Just a hunch. I think he is on a roll, and the main thing is, he exudes enjoying himself, which is mentally half the battle in running for President, a terribly grueling and cruel experience on a human being (but necessary).
