Amid the chaos, there was Sarah Palin.
Only one advance staffer was on hand to wrangle the fans and reporters hoping to get close to the former vice presidential nominee, who arrived at Sundays Rolling Thunder rally on a motorcycle driven by her daughter Willow.
At the first stop on Palins bus tour which, so far, has a vague itinerary and no other formally announced stops security and press relations were left to a small group of disgruntled bikers.
When asked about the tour, Palin offered only, This is our first stop; were very thankful to be here.
A map of the tours stops on her PACs website remains blank.
Palin arrived with Willow on the front of the motorcycle she was driving and her husband, Todd, and oldest daughter, Bristol, on separate bikes. Still, their presence was very small in comparison to the rest of the rally, drawing about 200 people in a swarm around them at an event that drew thousands of veterans....

But “the leadership,” Chris Wallace tells us, were “miffed” about her participation. They’re apolitical, yaknow. I wonder if anyone has bothered to check with any member of “the leadership” to learn what percentage thereof was “miffed.”
The headline say’s it all. She was swarmed by people who love her and that ticked off some of the rally people who expected to be the center of attention.
She was there to pay her respects.
If they came for the same reason she did why should they be upset?
Usually these guys go over to meet the President. Why do they think the President meets with them? In Obama’s case it’s definitely Politics.I don’t know if he met them this year. Isn’t he in Germany or somewhere?
Your Lady Ga Ga example is way off.
Rolling Thunder never got some much national attention as it did this year. That is a good thing and something that you don't get.
YOU TOO!!!!!
Like a typical rat, you lie. We all know that Sarah Palin was invited by the Alaska Rolling Thunder riders, she did not just SHOW UP! As you can see she has her own security with her. Now if some RAT BRAT Rolling Thunder participants want to rumble, I am sure there are other Rolling Thunder participants that can handle that nicely, without any security help whatsoever. I happen to know some guys in Texas1 Rolling Thunder that would be HAPPY to straighten some of them out!
Sour grapes.
He’s in Joplin. Hopefully a big oak tree will fall on him and his entourage.
His Highness Without Any Pants stayed in Joplin about a total of 20 minutes for a campaign stop and left...he’s on his way to Chicago where his fund raising schedule is more important that honoring our soldiers in Arlington...
Is Lady Gaga a gold star mother, a pro-defense patriot and a supporter of our veterans? And what, exactly, do you know about event security, crowd control and venue planning?
Did I say she wasn't invited? No. In fact, everything says she was invited . . . but not by the leadership. But that's irrelevant and you clearly duck the issue of security and crowd control which is not best left to the participants themselves (I seem to remember something about Altamont). And of course SOME of the Rolling Thunder people would be adequate to handle their own security. That isn't the point and you know it.
Everyone here apparently wants it both ways. "Sarah can turn out crowds." "It's not Sarah's fault if there is disorganization or problems with crowd control." Well, that's baloney. I'm saying she should be on top of these get-togethers and have a team in place, but just as I've said for months, she doesn't HAVE a team. Her organization is about four or five people. That may suffice for a vacation tour/get-to-know-America tour, but it absolutely will not suffice for turning that into a real politically effective structure that can get her elected.
Palinistas? You too?
Roll on, Sarah, roll on!! Damn the naysayers, full speed ahead!!
Campaigns especially run like clockwork for a reason: once you start ad-libbing, you miss schedules, tick off contributors, and so on. If Palin wants to be treated like the political rock star that she is, fine, but that means she owes it to the events to provide staff, security, and support as well. You can't have it both ways, pretending she is "big stuff" (which I think she is) and yet continually making excuses for her remarkably poor organization (which it is). These are not just "lib" or "dem" reports. I hear them routinely from conservatives who know her and work with her, and if she plans to be a candidate, it will be a MAJOR Achilles' heel if she doesn't get it fixed.
This is what happens when you allow library internet access to meth heads.
Uh, sour grapes to point out the disconnect between having Palin be a “rock star” candidate and then insisting that as such she actually have an organization capable of handling a picnic-—which at this point she doesn’t? Why is that sour grapes?
I suspect certain parts of the Country are having some really crappy weather this weekend.
She was invited to ride along.
And I think you are right in the case of Rolling Thunder. Now, what happens when she pulls the same crap at a venue less friendly to her? Organizational weakness and staff inadequacies will absolutely doom the best campaign, and she’s had a year to get a handle on this and still hasn’t done so. And this comes from more than the “liberal media.” I hear it a lot from conservatives who work for, with, or around Palin in various capacities.
Wow! That's Willow? I didn't even recognize her! Way to go Willow!
