Candidates, police wrestle with security concerns
The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier / The Associated Press ^ | May 19, 2011

When a prankster dumped a box of glittering confetti in Newt Gingrich's lap at a book-signing, the presidential candidate brushed off the stunt with a smile and quipped that it was "nice to live in a free country."

But the man's easy access to Gingrich raises questions about security on the campaign trail, particularly in the early months before the Secret Service begins guarding candidates. And the first events of the 2012 campaign are playing out just a few months after the shooting of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords....

Saw that video on Greg Gutfeld's Red Eye and it was hilarious and disturbing at the same time.

If our country is so far gone that anyone running for office on any parties ticket needs a massive, armed escort 24/7 then something is terribly wrong with the political system in this country.

Seems like the lines are drawn and everyone is waiting for the first shot to be fired.

VP Teddy Roosevelt was pelted with mudballs by angry newspaper boys. He cussed them out. That was America.

I am so sick of these chickenhawk politicians who turned DC into an armed spider hole. Screw them! They’re too dainty to even see a protest sign now. I’d like to see a few tarred and feathered. Remember when Prince Charles got mobbed awhile back? A few scenes like that would do the USA a lot of good.

And whatever happened to the Presidential Opener in baseball? The Prez in DC, various governors and mayors in other cities, would throw out the first ball and be lustily booed. Guess the “homeland” crowd put an end to that, too.

30 years ago, a guy shot the President and received a fair trial. That would never happen today.

Of course, we don't have "Presidents" anymore. Omnipotent rulers who turned DC into a spider hole and never see a hostile face.
