If Daniels had said he was ready to debate, the press likely would have considered that tantamount to an annoucement to run and would have been all over him.

Daniels is cautious...and honest about it. Nothing wrong with that.

Daniels is pathetic.

We need a leader. Daniels is a wimp.

I was listening to Rush yesterday, and he asked a caller what you would say about someone who said something like Daniels just did.

The reply Rush got (and encouraged) was:

WIMP!!!

This is going to be a great sound bite for Daniel's opponents.......

Key statement:

This is the sort of thing that, had Palin said it, would be cited by the George Wills of the world as proof of her alleged “intellectual incuriosity” and as evidence that she should never, ever be nominated. E.g., “Why isn’t she ready to debate Obama? Doesn’t she care enough about foreign policy to study it?” But since it’s Daniels, no doubt it’ll be applauded as refreshingly candid and a demonstration of charming Hoosier modesty.

"This is a bit refreshing. A governor not afraid to admit he needs to hit the books on foreign policy."

If that's the way he feels, I admire his candor, but would you hire a job applicant who said he didn't feel ready to discuss the job?

There is plenty wrong with this answer... it shows that he is not qualified nor prepared to be a candidate for president. He could have stated that having worked in the Bush administration, he learned quite a bit about international relations and crisis management. He couldn't even reach down and find that simple answer.

To run the free world... one must have a grasp on the current geopolitical situation throughout the world. He was not ready to answer this question because he had not thought far enough ahead to expect it. We can no longer afford a leader who needs on the job training. This incident would keep me from ever supporting his candidacy for 2012. Let him LEARN for the next two conservative administrations and then we will see.

The solution in any debate with teleprompter man is simple and involves one question and Reagan even provided it for us:

Are you better off now than you were four yrs. ago?

Then all the candidate has to do is cite obamas failures in the economy which could fill volumes and then his anemic foreign policy which mimics jimmy carters.

Bold contrasts will win the day!

Just what we need. Another uniformed timid rabbit running for President. If Mitch is not up to speed on foreign affairs he needs to go to President’s school for a few years and try again later.

I consideder myself an excellent freeper-educated personage....however, if anyone gave me a million dollars, I could NOT describe in any way what Mitch Daniels looks like....not one iota.

And that's the truth.

He called for surrender on values and social conservatism, now he surrenders foreign policy, what a guy.

Hey Mitch, go ahead and stay at home. You’re not the guy we need right now. If you are really not ready, why would you admit to it?

I don’t know what he looks like either and I think I did see a picture of him on a spouses of the possible candidates thread the other day. I consider myself to be pretty well informed for an average American. The guy doesn’t stand a chance.
