Well it would seem that Republicans in Congress blinked agreeing to a last minute deal where they compromised everything and Democrats gave nothing. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is doing a victory lap, and President Obama was thankful that funding Planned Parenthood was avoided.
"We protected the investments we need to win the future. At the same time, we also made sure at the end of the day this was a debate about spending cuts not social issues like womens health and the protection of our air and water. These are important issues that deserve discussion, just not during a debate about our budget."
Whose future was protected? Certainly not the unborn. Why shouldnt the funding for Planned Parenthood be discussed during a budget debate. Were talking money. This wasnt an abortion ban. That statement is asinine. During a budget debate is the perfect time to discuss what is worthy of taxpayer money and what is not.
And House Republicans caved. Typical.
Congresswoman Michele Bachmann (R-MN) mentioned that this didnt even include defunding Obamacare. She said that this was a small ball battle, and not worth the fight. (I take that back, I must have misunderstood her. She voted against the CR that averted the shutdown.)
I disagree. If Republican leadership caves here what possible confidence do we have that they wont cave in a big battle?
Instead of larger spending cuts and the defunding of Planned Parenthood only $38 billion is being cut this year, and $78 billion in next years budget. Considering the spending binge that Democrats have taken us on and the massive debt that we now face that is no where near good enough. What exactly did they give?
Couldnt we at least have had the defunding of Planned Parenthood that the House voted for in February? After the corruption found in that organization that they get a single taxpayer dime is unacceptable! It must be defunded and the House had the leverage to do it, and they blinked.
They let the government shutdown bogeyman spook them. Former Governor Mike Huckabee (R-AR) blinked as well. He said on Fox News quoted by Dave Weigel:
"To quote two great government paragons, Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, you cant always get what you want. You get what you can, then you fight for the rest the next day Id love to see Planned Parenthood just disappear, Id love to see NPR defunded but youre going to put a lot of pain on people who dont deserve the pain."
Governor Huckabee is it ok for the President of the United States, the Commander-in-Chief, to hold the military hostage over Planned Parenthood funding? Why in the world would they not allow him to make good on the threat to veto the continuing resolution that would have kept our military funded? His action is appalling and he should be called on the carpet for it. Instead we cave so we can be ready to fight another day . utter nonsense.
Fight now. I agree with Governor Palin who tweeted twice today "GOP: dont retreat! The country is going broke. We cant AFFORD cowboy poetry & subsidizing abortion. If we cant fight to defund this nonsense now when we have the chance, do you think well win the big fight on entitlement reform later on?"
It seems to me that as it stands right now that House Republican leadership will take the path of least resistance. I had hoped not to have to wait until 2012 to make at least some progress.
Oh. She announced to be a candidate? I apologize for missing that memo and news story.
[She is not a candidate! Unless I missed the announcement.
She hides. She pontificates. She proclaims.
Come on. That has zero accountability.]
So name your Great White Hope that is leading the charge!
So, she is not a candidate yet, and you want to argue with me that she is the best candidate? Wow!
The speaker sucks....
Bears repeating!
Don’t waste your time on a troll.
In your mind... who has accountability?
And a very stupid troll at that.
People with a real job! Hahaaha.
[So, she is not a candidate yet, and you want to argue with me that she is the best candidate? Wow!]
No, I’m merely pointing out that no one has technically announced. So all of your points are moot, worthless, diddly squat.
And you failed to name an alternative when challenged, the usual tactic of the negative nellies who have nothing better to do than throw bricks.
Youre right, plus a whole lot of money is sitting on the sidelines waiting for her to announce. I laugh every time I read about the paltry 1 or 2 million the *hopefuls* have raised.

Yep!
I also laugh when I hear about the straw polls where Hukster is leading! Give me a break!
Sarah will be the Dems worst nightmare. They are scared crapless she’s going to run. The Leftists made a huge mistake trying to destroy her early on. They’ve already vetted her, and found NO SKELETONS! The Marxists non-stop attacks early on have inoculated her from the destruction they craved. They have actually made her stronger than we could’ve ever imagined.
I know it has to be God’s will for her, but I’m hoping that she feels like she’s being led to run. Nobody creates the excitement and enthusiasm that Sarah does. She’s a rock solid conservative, and loves God and her country! That’s enough for me :-)
You answered my point. I hope you get a real job someday!
I think it’s pissant reinvented!!
and....I say it once for every dollar we are in debt...SARAH PALIN for POTUS!
Trump is a bigger joke than Huck!
He never means anything he says, and he has no concept of the consequences of his proposals.
He is forever going bankrupt on other people’s money; P.T. Barnum was spot on.
I love everything you wrote. I am praying she won’t be a sacrificial lamb. That the media will not make the election about her, when in fact it’s about him and his destructive, anti-American, un-American policies. I am praying mightily for her and for our Republic to realize that Sarah Palin is the patriot we need.
“I know it has to be Gods will for her, but Im hoping that she feels like shes being led to run.”

Goof grief, I cannot get my thoughts down tonight...please forgive my post above.
I didn’t mean that I (Artcore) know what God’s will is for her life. What I should’ve said was, she has to feel like she’s being led in that direction by God.
Thanks for your understanding! ;-)
She’s not hiding behind them. Everyone knows it’s her, and she follows through with television and radio interviews.
It’s the opposite of hiding. What are you thinking?
LOL. Well, this one has been around for a while, soiling Sarah Palin threads. This one is stupid beyond belief.
Commander in Chiefs Appalling Action with Our Troops By Gov. Sarah Palin.
Yesterday the House passed H.R. 1363, which funds our Department of Defense and our military for the rest of the year at their current levels. It allows for the continuation of current military operations, which is pretty important when youre fighting three wars. It also funds the government for another week and cuts $12 billion in wasteful spending. So why would the Commander in Chief declare that he will veto this? Why would he play politics at the expense of our troops who are putting everything on the line to protect us? Memo to the President: I doubt the insurgents will stop and wait for a government shutdown to end before resuming actions. You need to fund our troops, sir.
Like me, you might be asking yourself: Why on earth would he threaten to veto funding for the troops? What is his game plan? Basically, hell veto military funding because he wants the rest of the government funded too. And by the rest of the government, he means things like Harry Reids Cowboy Poetry. Essentially, hes holding military funding hostage to NPR funding. This is a perfect analogy for what is wrong with this entire budget showdown. Our federal government has strayed so far from what is constitutionally mandated that they are blind to the fact that NPR funding is not a constitutional duty. Funding our military at a time of war is!
The House GOP does not want a shut down. They just want legitimate cuts (and I would argue not even enough!). If we cant agree to cut a billion here and a billion there, well never close this $1.5 trillion deficit.
Lets look at the numbers. We have a $1.5 trillion deficit this year. Were paying $200 billion a year on our interest alone. Thats half a billion dollars per day on interest. And our $1.5 trillion deficit means that were borrowing $4 billion per day just to keep afloat. So, we pat ourselves on the back if we cut a billion dollars here or a billion there in discretionary spending, as we borrow $4 billion a day and pay half a billion a day in interest. The deficit for the month of February alone was the highest in our history at $223 billion. Thats more than the entire deficit for the year 2007. And theres no end in sight. Were not heading towards the iceberg. Weve already hit it. Now were taking on water. We must find a way to get back to harbor to repair our ship of state before its too late.
Where is President Obama in all of this? He just doesnt get it. His 2012 budget was a signal of that. The Presidents proposed budget offered higher taxes and higher spending. A budget is supposed to be more than just numbers crunched on a spreadsheet. Its supposed to be a credible blueprint of a nations priorities and direction. The Presidents budget was a political document. It was designed not to ruffle any feathers or take any decisive moves to deal with the deficit problem. Instead of cutting spending, hes moving us in the opposite direction. The non-partisan Congressional Budget Office reported that the White House was not telling the truth when they claimed that their 2012 budget reduces the deficit. It actually increases it. Instead of dealing with the hard realities we face, he just kicked the can down the road. Thats not leadership. Thats politics.
Real leadership means leading by example. It means showing an all-in commitment to tackling complex issues and putting in the time and effort to educate the American public. Right now the American people have not been educated about this major challenge we face. Keep in mind that perception often becomes reality, and the perception President Obama has repeatedly given off is that he cant be bothered to deal with our debt crisis.
This is profoundly unfair to the American people. Throughout our history, we have proven again and again that we are strong enough and wise enough to do the right thing when we are properly informed. We can judge and make the tough choices when we are not spun by the media or the financial class or the political class. We the People can decide if our leaders level with us honestly.
Its about time the President step up to the plate and lead responsibly. Our troops who are putting themselves in harms way deserve a Commander in Chief who is not AWOL from the debt debate. The American people deserve a president who will take on the tough challenges and understand that funding Car Talk is not as crucial as funding our troops at a time of three wars.
2008 seems like such a long time ago, but 2012 is just around the corner. There is a leadership vacuum in the White House right now, but thats nothing that another good old-fashioned election cant fix.
