There was a ton of great information this morning when U.S. Sen. Charles Grassley, R-Iowa, spoke at Sergeant Bluff-Luton High School. After some initial hesitancy, the kids asked a lot of interesting questions, about political access, national issues like spending and climate change and presidential politics. Grassley was asked his views of possible 2012 campaigns by businessman Donald Trump and former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.
Grassley said if he decides to publicly endorse a candidate, it wont happen until late summer at the earliest. As for Palin, Grassley said he doesnt know her well, adding up that hes had three conversations with her, with a minute each time. He said it appears Palin who has done well as a bestselling author with two books in the last two years, a reality show from Alaska on The Learning Channel and a Fox News gig likes making money, which makes sense because she has several children to support.
I dont know whether shed make a good president . I dont think she will run, Grassley said.
But Palin certainly has every right to pursue the presidency, he added. The Palin info from Grassley today is interesting, because it coincides with news that conservative blogger Andrew Breitbach thinks the presidency is beneath Palin.
I think the presidency is beneath her, the conservative media activist told GQ. Theres more power in being Oprah Winfrey than in being Barack Obama. It would be my goal for Palin to become Oprah and be the ultimate kingmaker for twenty-odd years.
Grassley said he has the impression Trump isnt fully committed to running for president. If he does, the senator said, that would involve articulating positions on major national issues and not just relying on his status as an uberbusinessman. Trump is first slated to speak in Iowa on June 10.
Elsewhere in Iowa today, three possible GOP presidential candidates spoke to the Network of Iowa Christian Home Educators in Des Moines. That drew Minnesota Congresswoman Michele Bachmann, Texas Congressman Ron Paul and businessman Herman Cain.
“Governor Palin has said numerous times she will survey the field of candidates and run if they are not talking about the issues that matter.”
In that case, she’s sure to run, because the other leading candidates are all idiots, perverts, or liars. There’s not one person on the slate of even potential runners I could make myself support, at this point, except for her. I’ll keep my eyes peeled, and try to assess candidates who are unknown to me with a critical eye. But I already know all I need to about the Giulianis, Romneys, and Gingrichs of the world.
Trump is an uberbusinessman?
Does anybody remember when Trump filed for bankrupcy and the banks had to bail him out?
Which time? Trump is a Hillary supporter, this is some kind of game that they’re playing.
Has Grassley been staying up past his bedtime again?
It will need to be a tea party qualified candidate that keeps Palin out of the race. I agree it is a brilliant strategy because if no one does come forth, Palin can enter the race quite late with an army of volunteers at the ready. Minutemen, if you will.
Huh? Winfrey is an entertainer, an actress, a person who has, as she earned her wealth through fame, had other people around to run her businesses. She knows how to hire people to create things through which she reaps her influence. She doesn't run the magazine -- she hires people to do that.
Palin has gotten in and gotten her hands dirty running things, fixing things, making action take place, and she's good at communicating what she wants to do and why she wants to do it.
Oprah got to where she is by talent, determination, smarts, love of life, and skill via the creative venue of the stage. She's a songbird, a mirror (or tries to be), of the Common American Woman. Nothing wrong with that.
Palin got to where she is by strength, skill, smarts, determination, and love of life, via the world venue of knowing how to kick ass and take names. In commercial fishing, raising kids, mayoring a town, being governor and following through so corrupt folks in her own party went to jail, working as a waitress when she went to plain old American colleges, moving around a few times, being an American kid growing up to be somebody who kicks ass and takes names.
Oprah sure as hell never did that.
We all have observed people in our everyday lives and the small percentage who fall into that category -- those who know how to kick ass and take names, and lead. They're valuable, and they're few. Expecting Palin to be an Oprah is like expecting a leopard to be a cuddly stuffed toy lion. Or something like that! ;^)
It’s disappointing when even people I respect, such as Andrew Breitbart, fail to see the full breadth, depth, and potential of Sarah Palin.
Rush and Levin seem to be two of the few media stars who really understand Sarah Palin, and what an historic leader she can be for this country.
I’m beginning to know what it was like for people who saw Ronald Reagan’s true greatness before he was elected. They had to suffer the slings and arrows of the negative press attacks, and the disparagement of unbelievers on the right, along with him.
She is cut from the same stock as some the greatest Americans in our history. She is exactly the type of person we need at the helm in these trying times. I will consider it national suicide, if America doesn’t elect this incredible woman to the presidency next year.
I don’t really know, just a gut feeling. She may very well prove me wrong though.
Palin’s going to run. I don’t support her but only a blind idiot would think she won’t run.
Some of these GOP politicians need to learn to STFU when the LSM asks!
Only Sarah decides if she runs. She will inform the GOP elites and the rest of the world when she is good and ready to.
Andrew Breitbart said the other day that the presidency is a step down for Sarah and he hopes she becomes a right-wing Oprah. He got slammed for that comment rightfully.
In what world do these pundits/bloggers live in? A talk show host is more powerful than being a POTUS? WTF?!
If that is the case, then Newt, Mitt, T-Paw, Cain et al are wasting their time. Why don’t they all become talk show hosts? Or is it because Sarah is a woman? Makes no sense.
Time for that senile bastard to be retired!
Please see my comments above.
Breitbart is another one who needs to STFU when it comes to Sarah. He just doesn’t get her. Why doesn’t Breitbart suggest one of the good ole’ GOP boys become the next Oprah. Phil Donahue (a man) was the top talk show host before Oprah came along.
Funny how India, Israel, and the rest of the world seem to think she will be running for POTUS while quite a few in the US are blind. You should see how many people from around the world are liking her at her FaceBook page since Sarah’s overseas trip this weekend. They are liking her message.
Palin 2012
Excellent point.
